  1. I don't find their opinions any more tolerable, just because they were asked and not given unprompted. And Dozier's comment that he was considering chastising the player at second base suggests it was closer to the front of his mind than the back.
  2. Well fair enough, and if it's a violation, I won't object to someone snipping it down. But, I think it's the proper term for the way they are acting. Perhaps I should have phrased it as a verb instead of a noun, as I didn't mean for it to be an unfounded personal attack, rather an accurate descriptor of how I feel they are acting. I don't think it's harsh at all. At least, not nearly as harsh as they are being on this player who did exactly what he should have done. All I hear all the time, on here, at the watercooler, sports talk radio, twins columns, is why don't players take the free single when teams shift. This isn't even one of those things that I understand, but disagree with (like being upset for pumping a HR), I simply can't even understand how/ why they think anything was done wrong here. And, I can't respect players that feel so entitled, that they think their team gets to keep trying, but they are disrespected if the other team does as well. And then to actually whine about it out loud. It's very poor sportsmanship, and I just can't respect it.
  3. But I don't understand what there is for Berrios to take personally. If you are shifting the hitter, then you aren't playing like the game is over. Why is it wrong for one team to keep trying when the other team clearly still is? Also, a no hitter is a personal accomplishment, so that makes his behavior even worse, IMO, if that's why he's upset.
  4. Well, again, I didn't see the game. But it doesn't necessarily take consecutive "harmless" pitches to become one harmful pitch. Falling behind in the count gives the hitter an advantage. I get the point. But I think "less harmful", would be more accurate terminology. To me it depends on the situation. If you are up 0-2, absolutely waste a pitch, they might chase. In that scenario, I'd agree it's probably harmless. If you are already behind, or it's the first pitch of the AB, then I absolutely don't agree, as good hitters feast when they get ahead in the count.
  5. Prefaced with the fact I didn't watch the game. But, I don't think walks are harmless.
  6. I'm not one for superstition, but I'll still throw this out there: in 2016 the Twins also opened the season by losing 3-2 at Baltimore on a walk off.
  7. Well yeah, but hitting better with RISP would qualify as playing better. And, you also won't hold your opponent to 2-9 with RISP every game. So, that logic cuts both ways.
  8. Don't want to do the math, but I'm skeptical that scoring 2 runs is going to get you anywhere near .500. It's just one game, so it means nothing, but they need to play a lot better than that IMO.
  9. I'm not a fan of pinch hitting for Buxton, or letting Castro hit.
  10. As did my responses. And you're right, it doesn't need to go any longer, we'll find out the results soon enough. Wasn't trying to start a "tangent", just don't think that even Butler can carry this squad past GS in a series. I don't find that to be an outlandish opinion, even if others disagree.
  11. I don't think Dozier was going to even entertain the idea of giving a discount on an extension. At least not a significant one.
  12. I was responding to a post about someone liking our chances as they stand now. Not a hypothetical about where we'd be if Butler hadn't gotten hurt.
  13. Well yeah, nobody is doubting that. I just question if even Butler can carry a team like this to a series win over Golden State. It's hard to overstate just how awful Memphis is, especially on the road. At some point, one guy, even one as awesome as Butler, can only carry so much of the load. Regardless, the great thing about sports is there are very few philosophical arguments. Soon enough we'll get to find out the answer!
  14. If everything holds, it looks like it would be James Paxton, next Saturday.
  15. In the sense of anything can happen in sports sure. But, I was mostly responding to Pardon, who said he likes their chances to win at least one playoff series. I interpreted that to mean that he thinks they are at least somewhat close to a coin flip. (Why would he like their chances otherwise?) I just don't buy that Butler is superhuman enough to win a series against GS, with a team that lost at home to Memphis. To me that shows zero mental toughness, as even minimal desire would be sufficient to beat Memphis.
  16. Well his dWAR went from a positive 0.8 in 2015, to a positive 0.1 in 2016, to a negative 1.6 last year. So, it looks more like a steady, year to year decline to me, rather than a sudden fluke season. It's been documented in multiple other threads that he lost more than a step last year, for whatever the reason. The awful baserunning numbers would also suggest that his awareness and instincts lag well behind his speed. Which, I assume might also show itself on defense. I'll be interested to see how he does this year, that's for sure.
  17. Yeah, I'd actually say Granite has a significantly higher ceiling of the two. And I've also never been very high on Granite.
  18. Rosario looked like a very poor outfielder in 2017 to my eye. It's also what we have, and most people don't have time to watch every game of every team, which is what would be necessary for the eye test to have any accuracy whatsoever.
  19. If Butler is really the difference between losing at home to Memphis- a team that hadn't won a single road game in 2018, and beating GS in a playoff series, then he is the single most underpaid player in the history of sports, and had better win every single MVP vote. Sorry, not buying it. It's one thing for him to carry this sorry team in a singular game during the regular season here and there. It's a totally different thing to do it for a full series.
  20. Alex Gordon was a plus 0.7 dWAR last year, to Rosario's minus 1.6. Rosario is going to have to improve a ton on defense to get to Gordon's level.
  21. Wait, I thought before you said you were giving your opinion? A few posts later it's just a factually bad contract regardless of Mike's opinion?
  22. Granite isn't the kind of prospect that you worry about service time with.
