  1. Arraez had exactly 30 MLB at bats when Twins Daily published their rankings.
  2. He's not injured now. I don't follow your logic here. Why would they shut him down, just because he was previously injured, if he's healthy now?
  3. Do you think they'll be facing teams like Miami, Chicago, and KC in the postseason?
  4. I have no idea how you inferred any of that from my post. All I said was that just because there appears to be room in the budget, doesn't mean there is. I nowhere gave any opinion on the pros or cons of spending more money.
  5. If it was the normal soreness that he typically feels the day after pitching, it wouldn't have been noteworthy enough in his mind to bring it up in the context that he mentioned it. He was able to pinpoint the exact series when it began to feel different. By definition, if it felt different, then it wasn't just normal soreness.
  6. Are we really suggesting that he didn't know he was injured, despite struggling to put his (expletive) clothes on? That's not normal soreness.
  7. Wait, didn't this start with you and Chief playing the "if" and "hindsight" game? (If they'd signed free agents in the offseason, and if they'd worked out.)
  8. There is more to baseball than just batting average. Max Kepler has an .810 OPS versus lefies. Polanco has a .686 OPS versus lefies. There is also the fact that any platoon partner with Kepler is going to be a steep downgrade on defense, as Kepler is an elite defensive corner outfielder. Whereas a platoon partner for Polanco (Adrianza) would be a significant defensive upgrade, as Polanco is average to slightly below average defensively. I would let him try to figure out left handed pitching, personally, especially since we have the luxury of a great lineup around him. But I don't find anything preposterous about the discussion, if you just look at the numbers versus lefies only. I also couldn't find any examples of the author "complaining" about Polanco. Perhaps you could point them out to me.
  9. Which moves did you suggest, without the benefit of hindsight (specific players), that would have prevented this? Was the awful this year, and now injured Kimbrel one of them?
  10. Perhaps the plan isn't working. But that's not what I was arguing. Graterol wasn't the plan. Regardless of whether he ends up here or not, he wasn't the plan. No matter the level of incompetence that some may level at the front office, they didn't go into the season with "Plan A" being a 20 year old who'd thrown all of 60 innings at high A. Nor did they go into the deadline with "Plan A" being a 20 year old with all of 40 innings and a shoulder injury at AA.
  11. Ok, let's play this out to it's possible conclusion. If they'd signed two guys in the offseason that ended up being terrible, then stood pat at the deadline, with the given explanation being, "we did our shopping in the offseason, we don't do last minute shopping", you're reaction would be? If we want to critique their offseason moves, that's of course fair. But, it's independent of their moves at the deadline. Moves in the offseason are no guarantee that further moves won't be required at the deadline. Decision making is a moving target. Let's judge their deadline moves with the information and the resources they had at the deadline, not the ones they had 8 months ago.
  12. With the numbers vs lefties presented, I thought it was a perfectly legitimate discussion topic, even if one I disagree with. Perhaps we read different articles? I saw nothing in it as reactionary as your resort seems to suggest.
  13. The Yankees got him because their ownership will allow them to grab mediocre salary dumps. A player like Encarnacion is available that far in advance only because he's a salary dump. Name the relief pitchers you asked for in the offseason, odds are they haven't been good.
  14. But most of the big name relievers signed in the offseason haven't been good. So they still would have needed help at the deadline.
  15. If Graterol is good enough to throw 3-4 clean innings though, they shouldn't be wasted in mop up.
  16. I find it odd that they got Romo two days before the deadline then, if they only started shopping 5 minutes before the deadline.
  17. Encarnacion was a salary dump. Nobody is trading an impact pitcher in April or May.
  18. The poster claimed the Twins plan is to rely on a 20 year old to pursue the pennant. Who do you think will have more impact on the 2019 record, Cruz or Graterol? Or what about all the other contributors who aren't 20 years old? Are they factors in the pennant race?
  19. Do you actually believe that's when the Twins started shopping? Or is it more likely that's when the selling teams finally began accepting reasonable prices for their goods?
  20. Kuechel has a worse FIP, in the national league. Of course he does have some better luck working right now, but I'm not sure I want my FO trying to predict which pitchers will get luckier on batted balls.
  21. That's very true. I was trying to warn people of that during this last offseason when everyone assumed there was plenty of payroll room.
  22. My main takeaway from looking at that link would be that fans pining for Smeltzer to join the rotation had better be careful what they wish for, yikes.
  23. Because he didn't have a ST, and his k rate is down and his walk rate is up. I haven't watched him pitch, but his numbers suggest he's been pretty lucky so far this year.
