  1. Yeah, who wants a 50+ HR threat in the middle of their lineup. That is crazy talk, what am I thinking.
  2. I keep hearing about how Suzuki is so good at calling a game and handling the pitching staff. If that is the case, why do the Twins have the worst starting pitching in the AL, and the 2nd worst in MLB, 2nd only to the thin air inflated Rockies staff?
  3. Yep, the old standby. LOL. There is no way to argue with that I guess, but I have a hard time believing that there is any reason he'd choose Chicago over here. Both are cold weather cities, and both losing teams. Fine, put Abreu at 1B and Mauer at DH. Abreu's bat plays just as well at either spot.
  4. Abreu can't DH?
  5. It seems their are people who say, "no, you don't go after the massive FA's, because winners are built from within." And then, people who say, "we are not winning so their is no rush to get them up here." I'm not accusing you of being one who says both these things, but to me I don't see how you ever get them up here if that is the case. If you need your prospects to come up and produce to turn this thing around, but you don't want to call up your prospects until you are in a pennant race, then how will they ever get called up? To me he is "ready" now. Does he still have some things to work on? Of course. But, he's going on 25 years old. At some point you just have to get him up here and hope that he can learn the rest at this level. I would assume that there must be some age that is your "cutoff" (maybe not though)? How old would he have to get before you think he should just go ahead and come up with what he has, rather than wait for him to be perfect? If that age exists, then perhaps we agree on the premise but just disagree on that age. To me, as far as elite prospects go, he's already an "old dog".
  6. They had an opportunity to add Jose Abreu at a price that wasn't crippling. He went to Chicago, that tellls me he was open to signing for a cold weather team. He went to Chicago, that tells me he was open to going to a losing team. This at least leaves open the possibility that they are in fact cheap, as they had plenty of money for this signing, with of course the other option being that their international scouts are not very good.
  7. No matter how well a team is playing or not playing, sweeping a team in their park is hard to do. The Twins also didn't just lose, they looked completely lost in all 3 phases of the game. This, after declaring to anyone who would listen that they are a contender and would come out and prove it. It's unfortunate that apparently you are not allowed to give your opinion on this site, without "conclusive evidence", which seems kind of weird for a discussion board, so I'll just leave it at that without giving my opinion of what that shows me.
  8. And I'd imagine that putting another 11 innings worth of stress on it after the injury probably "tightened" it up more than it otherwise would have. To put it another way, would playing another 11 innings have in any way HELPED the injury? If the answer is no then it's not worth the risk, period. You say, " I appreciate your toughness kid, but lets get you out and see how it feels in the morning." Not difficult.
  9. Twins need to go 9-1 over their next 10 games, good luck. I hope nobody went ahead and booked it. Coming out looking like this at home, after all that trash they talked about proving that we shouldn't be sellers, shows the kind of (lack of) heart that is on this club. It's getting very depressing thinking we could be looking at several more years of this mess, as I'm not sure I'm seeing anyone, outside of maybe Dozier and Perkins who have the heart and/or desire to turn this thing around.
  10. If it's this bad that he will miss multiple games because if it (he already has), he should absolutely NOT have been allowed to play another 11 innings after the injury happened. That is no way to handle the #2 prospect in all of baseball. I understand that as a competitor he probably said, "coach, it's nothing I'm fine", but its the coaching staff's job to think big picture and protect him from himself. So very frustrating.
  11. I disagree that May and Meyer are not ready right now. Meyer is dominating AAA right now. He leads the league in K/9 and K%, he can't be hit (.220 BA against), and has a low HR rate and high GB rate. I know the counter is his walks and "consistency", but if that is what we are waiting for, then it was a waste to even trade for him. A guy 6'9" is going to issue walks, and is going to have bad games due to losing his mechanics. That is the bad that you take with the good when you have a pitcher that big. He's as good as he's ever going to get at AAA. Trevor May HAS been incredibly consistent, at this point I'm left wondering what the argument even is for keeping him down. People keep saying he would be up if not for the injury, but he was pitching consistently before the injury, and still wasn't up, so I'm not buying that. Yes, I do think that getting these guys feet wet this year would help with next year. In fact to me that seems like almost a guarantee. You can't teach or buy experience. It can only be gained one way, and that is not in AAA.
  12. So why are we arguing? That is my point. The Twins are more conservative with their pitchers than they are their hitters. Berrios starting out of ST at age 21 seems like an extreme longshot to me.
  13. Ok, lets extend it out to the SP's with the 150 most innings (avg. 5 per team), and see where he ranks: K rate: 149th xFIP: 147th ERA: 127th L: 1st Still mediocre? How far would we have to extend it out for him to not be among the handful of worst starting pitching? Top 200 in innings? Top 300 in innings?
  14. And this is why the Twins need to get guys like May and Meyer up here ASAP. They are not going to be all stars the moment they step on the field, so the longer we keep them down, the longer we are pushing back our next contending season. At this point, 2015 is out of the question. And if some of these guys don't start getting tastes soon (Buxton and Sano injuries hurt), 2016 will soon be out of the question as well.
  15. 1) Meyer has 3.30 ERA, opponents cant hit him (.220 BA against), and has nearly 10 K/9. I'm not sure what more we need to see. If you are waiting for him to be "consistent", get ready to wait about 4 or 5 more years before we see him up, because a young 6'9" pitcher is never going to be consistent. His big frame is going to at times lead to a breakdown of his mechanics. With Meyer, you have to go by his OVERALL numbers, (which have been superb) and be willing to live with the occasional dud. 2) Link to where Terry Ryan or Anthony said that May for sure would be up right now if not injured? Otherwise that is just speculation. Maybe he would, but I doubt it.
  16. I don't dispute the position players. Berrios is a pitcher. The evidence points to the Twins being much more conservative in promoting their pitching prospects to the MLB.
  17. Would I? No, but the Twins will. Actions speak louder than words and the actions show that the Twins are not willing to promote starting pitchers until they are cost controlled into their 30's.
  18. Correia's numbers only look okay because offense is currently way down in the MLB. Relative to his peers, he's pretty bad. Among the 93 qualified MLB starting pitchers, Correia is: 93rd in K rate 92nd in xFIP 84th in ERA 1st in L's Since the beginning of last season (so his 1.5 years in a Twins uniform), only 2 MLB pitchers have thrown as many innings (or more) as Correia, with a worse ERA (our own Ricky Nolasco, and Kyle Kendrick). There really isn't a context that exists where Correia is anything but one of the handful of worst starting pitchers in baseball.
  19. The more illogical guess, to me, is that they both think the Twins will actually take Berrios north out of Spring Training, AT AGE 21, while we are currently looking at May and Meyer (a top 30 prospect!!) potentially being 25 years old before they get their first taste of MLB. Sorry guys, not happening, not in this organization.
  20. The season that we got swept by the A's in the first round we had the far superior team. Including, but not limited to, the MVP (Morneau), the AL batting champ (Mauer), the Cy Young winner (Santana), a top 5 closer (Nathan), and a gold glove CF'er in his prime (Hunter). This doesn't fit the narrative that he overachieves with the talent he's given.
  21. He is leading this pitching staff to the worst ERA in the AL, anyone could do that.
  22. Great inning for Berrios. Man, this kid is a pitcher! Really good stuff, but what is going to carry him is that command and pitching IQ he just showed there. I'm excited for this kid.
  23. Roughly. It was like 3.93 a couple weeks ago, havent checked it today. EDIT: That is MLB average, not league average.
  24. We now have zero pitchers with an ERA below 3.90 (which is roughly league average), and the 2nd worse starters ERA in baseball. Good thing Suzuki "handles" the pitching staff so great.
