  1. The quotes from Molitor and Hughes, in Derek Wetmore's column this morning, seem to suggest that he's going to get a pretty long leash. As I expected.
  2. In my post, I'm commenting on the remark about Katrina only. Like everyone else, I'm sure she was some combination of good and bad. Hopefully (and probably), she was more good than bad. But, I reject the opinion that the good things she did give her some kind of free pass for the comments posted above regarding Katrina.
  3. I mean he's been subpar for a third straight season. I don't agree that one decent outing should give him any extra rope, even if it's in his mind only. But, it's really not a big deal, aside from maybe a little bit of lack of self awareness. Players should play, and management should manage. For the most part, the players should respect managements decisions, or put in an application in the front office if they think they can do it better. Who knows, with the flaws this team has, perhaps he can do their job better!
  4. And Gardy didn't have the close personal off the field relationship that the Pohlads and Molitors have. I don't think there is much, if any chance they fire him, but I guess anything is possible.
  5. Duffey gave up 5 runs after entering with the Twins leading 7-4 on Friday. That's not mop up duty, and certainly hurt the team. I actually like guys to be a little upset if they don't get to compete at the highest level, but in this case Duffey has been so bad, and has been for a third straight year now, that he needs to have a little self awareness. That is, of course, if he was in fact upset about the demotion.
  6. Yeah this team made its bed with the Molitor contract. Much like Phil Hughes, they aren't eating that money. No way. We have to hope he's a decent manager because he'll be here for the duration of the contract.
  7. Can't love this post enough. The one thing I can find to disagree with is overpaying for a 4th outfielder. Unless they can fix other problems quickly, that seems like a waste of assets.
  8. Hughes is entitled (of course, I don't think he SHOULD be) because he's owed $26 million. Duffey is performing worse than Hughes, and has options and no large monetary commitment. It would be one thing if Duffey is performing well, and still gets squeezed out because of Hughes' guaranteed spot.
  9. Yeah, I don't know how someone can read the Katrina comments and think they are not either racist or elitist. Or both.
  10. The injuries are starting to worry me as well, and I've never so much as veered off the wagon. As Levi said, after so many flukes, it's not just bad luck anymore. I don't know if he's there yet, but I'm getting worried he might be.
  11. Yes, I said not always. Houston for example, is not at a point in their build where they have enough talent and depth to compensate for Watson being out. I mean, they probably don't even have enough to win a SB even with Watson. Not yet. The Vikings should be at that point, IMO. And yes, at some point, it's too much for anyone to overcome. I don't think 2 players should be that point for the Vikings though, even if those 2 players are both OL.
  12. I'm not implying it doesn't matter. I'm arguing a good GM and a headstrong team can overcome them. They won't always, but they can. Every single team in the NFL will face injuries this year, every team. But, one of them will have enough depth to overcome them. I think we're at an agree to disagree point.
  13. No. It's the equivalent to a limited service spare tire, not a wagon wheel. Your analogy suggests they'll have to grab some schmuck out of the crowd. Of course they decrease your on field talent. But that doesn't mean that it's so severe that a well built, and mentally tough team can't overcome them. Again, see the Eagles. They lost their franchise QB, and won the Super Bowl with Nick Foles at QB, by far the most important position on the field. I mean, in an earlier post you mention the importance of building depth. What good is building depth, if nothing less than your starters are capable of winning?
  14. Injuries are part of football. The Eagles lost their franchise QB, and still won the Super Bowl. I hate the injury excuse more than anything else in sports. The backups are still getting paid to play football. Injuries are going to happen. Injuries on the offensive line are going to happen, it's not even a question.
  15. I'm not saying it's not a league wide problem. I'm just saying that it's not impossible to field a good offensive line, although perhaps more difficult now than ever. New Orleans, for one, has a really good line. I'm also not calling Spielman an idiot. Nor I'm I suggesting, or criticizing them for not, taking them in the first round. I couldn't care less where or how they find them, as long as the o-line doesn't prevent them from winning a Super Bowl. I'm simply saying, there will be offensive lineman taken after round one, who will start day one and be good. Maybe one or two, maybe a half dozen. But there will be some, that is a fact. If our o-line is good without immediate help in the draft, good. But if it's not, then no excuses. There will have been help that they passed on. Either because they aren't good enough evaluators to identify those guys, or because they chose to address other areas instead. There were also good linemen available in free agency that they passed on. Long story short, I just don't want to hear any excuses if the line is bad. This is his roster, he built it, he has to own the results.
  16. I know Buxton has previously had blurred vision with these, but I don't think it's always a symptom. Has someone reported that he had blurred vision with this instance? And where are you hearing the 2 consecutive days standard? Did the team say that, or are you just saying that SHOULD be the standard? I don't agree that migraines need to be treated the same as a concussion, if that is what you are getting at.
  17. I highly doubt they'll wait for it to heal before he plays. Again, not a doctor, purely speculative, but I'm pretty sure with a broken toe it's a pain management/swelling issue, and that most people continue to work/ play sports throughout the healing process. Hopefully Heezy will chime in with an expert onio opinion.
  18. PFF ranked the Vikings o-line 22nd in 2017, with Berger our best o-lineman, and we lost him. I disagree that there are no good offensive lines. And even if there are only one or two, that still means it is possible, even if difficult. I don't give Spielman a pass, just because it's difficult. He's well compensated, his job isn't supposed to be easy. There will be at least one offensive lineman who was drafted after our first pick who will be an immediate starter, and will be good. Spielman will have either missed on that guy, or chose not to draft him because he had someone else ranked higher. Again, I'm not ripping them. But they chose to draft the guys they drafted. Excluding 29 guys, every single other guy drafted was available to them at least once. So, I'm also not going to give them a pass if the line isn't good enough this year. This team is clearly built to try to win a SB, now. Anything less will be a disappointment.
  19. Per Lavelle, Hughes will make his scheduled start vs. Toronto. Just a minor mechanical issue, according to the team, no issues with Hughes! Sorry folks, no matter how much logical sense it makes, they aren't eating $26 million. People don't always make logical decisions regarding that kind of money. The soonest we will see them move on from him, IMO, will be midseason 2019.
  20. He was playing rehab games because he was no longer suffering from the migraines, but was not yet eligible to return from the DL.
  21. No I do not. Speculative only.
  22. If Compton and Easton are our starting guards, we're in trouble from the start, and in disaster territory if there are injuries. And there will be injuries, this is football. It won't be "bad luck" when there are injuries. I don't really have a problem with their draft strategy, but it's still a choice to draft that way, not a right or wrong way. So if the o-line is bad, there shouldn't be any excuses. It may be becoming harder and harder to assemble a really good offensive line, but it's not impossible, as there are some teams with good o- lines.
  23. A hairline fracture on a bone that small likely wouldn't be visible on x-ray until the swelling is gone.
  24. We are 14% of the way through the season (unless they changed to a 350 game schedule when I wasn't looking!). And, Aaron Rodgers said that, not Brees.
  25. Yeah, I don't mean to say he can't play. I just see him as a guy who should be the first guy off the bench. Not a starter, ideally.
