  1. Personally, I feel sorry for the FO and Molitor on Hughes. I personally believe (despite all of Ash's well thought out rebuttals) that the FO has zero desire for him to be on the team, but the Pohlad's won't let them release him.
  2. I can't believe Romero going down is being discussed as an option. At least we'll know if this FO is actually trying to win, or still think they are building. Because a team committed to winning now isn't taking Romero out of the rotation.
  3. Yeah, Alito's dissent was basically, "meh, this happens so rarely, it's not worth caring about. " And no, I'm not making that up. And it's also not that rare. This ruling is expected to overturn 10 death sentence convictions in Louisiana alone. https://www.google.com/amp/www.scotusblog.com/2018/05/opinion-analysis-court-rules-for-death-row-inmate-whose-lawyer-conceded-guilt/amp/
  4. On Monday, justices Alito (zero surprise), Thomas, and Gorsuch joined a despicable dissent. They effectively argued that a defense attorney can proclaim his client guilty, during the trial, against his clients wishes, and the defendant can't refute it. Thankfully, the other six justices came to what should have been the obvious conclusion.
  5. According to the ESPN story, Cano dropped his appeal when he was presented with the league's proof of his intent. I don't think a player would drop his appeal if the evidence wasn't extremely strong.
  6. The newest in the line of odd injuries, that you only seem to see in baseball- see Marty Cordova, Lew Ford, Kevin Pillar, Glenallen Hill, (my personal favorite) Steve Sparks, Vince Coleman, etc., Carson Smith of the Red Sox blew out his shoulder after slamming his glove down in frustration. What is your favorite odd baseball injury?
  7. What Cano won't tell you in his "apology", is that because he tested positive for a masking agent, and not an actual PED, the league was forced to prove intent before they could suspend him. So he absolutely cheated, and absolutely intended to cheat, and actively attempted to mask his cheating.
  8. It doesn't factor at all. I don't believe there is any advantage or disadvantage either way, so I don't think it matters at all whether they DL'd him or waited for the suspension.
  9. Many of those 189 players also provide value at defense or baserunning though. Not that I can't live with those numbers from Morrison, but top third in offense is probably the minimum bar for a player with no other value.
  10. Castro will be back in 6 weeks in the same way that Santana was going to be back May 1st, and Sano needed a day or two to rest a hammy. I don't understand why the Twins continue to give such unrealistically optimistic return dates on these injuries. Castro won't be back in a Twins lineup any sooner than July 21st.
  11. Ed O'Neill (married with children, modern family) is a 10th degree black belt in Brazilian Jujitsu. Nick Offerman (parks and rec) is a master woodworker, and an accomplished dancer. Tony Danza was a gold gloves boxer.
  12. I know you're just speculating, and not the one making the decision. But if the offensive gain from Morrison being more involved actually does outweigh the improved defense of Mauer at first base, then shouldn't they use that alignment every game?
  13. I also would use basically anyone in baseball who happens to throw righthanded, before using Duke against consecutive righties.
  14. Absolutely. His body, his decision. But you are also speculating. We don't know whose recommendation rest and rehab was. It never seems to work, IMO. For all we know, he was fully willing to get the surgery out of the way, and the team and/or doctors convinced him he didn't need it.
  15. I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt that the writer simply forgot about Mauer, as he clearly should have been in that third tier.
  16. If they don't feel he's a MLB caliber pitcher, does it matter which milb depth players they keep? I don't feel like Melotakis is any better than any of those other guys you mentioned.
  17. Bard being returned shows that other GM's have the same valuation as ours did.
  18. I meant this year, at the deadline.
  19. Part of it is probably that Gordon is not on the 40 man roster. They already have to clear 2 spots when May and Santana come back, and will likely need to clear another spot or two at the trade deadline. Of course, if they think he's ready, that shouldn't be an obstacle. But if they have doubts, as I do, then that might play into it.
  20. Not sure about that. Should Castro need season ending surgery, he'd be almost 32 when he recovers, and Garver becomes the starter, with Wilson the back up. I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a look at catchers, though not necessarily Ramos- payroll is probably pretty much maxed out at this point.
  21. It's only 8 starts, but if Gibson keeps pitching like he has so far this year, he'll be coming back next year.
  22. Berardino reporting that Castro is headed to Colorado for a second opinion on his knee. From a purely speculative point of view, this sounds like it could be a long term injury.
  23. May has yet to even start a rehab assignment. Once he starts his assignment, he has a minimum of 30 days, but possibly as many as 60 days (players recovering from TJ surgery can be granted an additional 10-30 days) before he has to be activated.
  24. I mean, he turns 27 next month, and has never had a walk rate below 3/9. He's almost certainly minor league filler at this point. I'm guessing they tried to trade him for cash, but didn't find any takers.
  25. He might be recovered already if they'd done the procedure at the end of last season. Yes, i understand that surgery is a major thing. And no, I'm not suggesting they forcibly operate on some one. But they almost always end up needing the surgery anyways, and miss an extra season as well.
