  1. I've noticed the same. But I'm actually a big supporter. I want to see him do well. He was obviously not right at the start of the season, striking out in half his plate appearances. It's also important to recognize his limitations though. I want to see him continue to be a 130-140 OPS+ guy, but even when he does his defense and position restricts him to being a 3 Win player basically. Whereas Julien could have (and potentially still could be) more like a 5 win player building on last year's production.
  2. Because it's his big weakness, and him being successful versus fluky is going to largely be tied into that K rate. He's been great in this 26 PA stretch, but that's with a .600 BABIP. If he were putting more balls in play this type of production wouldn't appear to be quite as unsustainable as it does right now. Over 400 PAs, the difference between a 40% K rate and a 32% K rate is 32 balls in play. And for Wallner that means something like 2 more dingers, 2 more walks, and another 10 or so hits scattered about.
  3. Yeah, a bat only player with a career OPS+ of 100 at the age of 26 isn't exactly going to get much attention. He's a waiver wire reclamation project. Not an asset.
  4. No one's saying he's Aaron Judge. But he's not a complete bum either. I don't trust him much going forward because even though he's hot that K rate is still north of 35%, but if you think BA is super important while OBP or OPS is meaningless, we're just never going to agree so we can leave it here.
  5. I'll be driving up to Cooperstown for the ceremony. Can't wait.
  6. The guy with a career 132 OPS+. Fact is he has had a complete turnaround from the start of the season but you've been too busy to notice.
  7. They instantly identified he needed some work and sent him down so early that his putrid start has already been made up for, sitting with a 132 OPS+ at the all-star break. Good for him! Hope he can keep his mindset right and continue to produce, especially since Larnach seems to have come back to earth and isn't really pulling his weight anymore.
  8. The sad fact is, no we don't actually. If SWR or Paddack run out of gas, we're left without a real good option to step into the rotation. Another go for Festa or Varland, which isn't going to kill the team but is a real risk for the rest of the season. And we just DFA'd the 3rd(?) man in that pecking order. Unless you're talking about future seasons, which I can see, but hoping the depth at AA materializes into a #4 by next season is a bit of a high wish too.
  9. Getting to the playoffs is my biggest concern too. Which is why a 6th starter is way more important in my mind. If we get to the point that SWR or Paddack just run out of gas (or god forbid an injury) we're stuck with Boushley/Varland/Festa/Dobnak and that's basically giving away a game every 5 days. And I just feel like this need is inevitable.
  10. I do understand the desire, but the type of relievers in FA that you wish them to go after are so expensive: Chapman - 10.5M Hader - 19M for 5yrs Kimbrel - 13M Robertson - 11.5M Neris - 9M even Pagan - 8M for 2yrs! Cause after looking at those top and second rung tiers of reliever, we're looking at the likes of: Dylan Floro, Jake Diekman, Andrew Chafin, and...Josh Staumont
  11. That's fair, I think my concern comes in that I don't trust Larnach either. And I guess I prefer to have Kepler due to the old adage 'defense doesn't slump'.
  12. Ok, but he's going to be back soon, and there's nothing to suggest he won't be effective. Nothing more than any other reliever we could acquire from outside the organization. We don't have to pretend as though he's dead either.
  13. You're probably right. Drake looks like a floor of good backup. They're also pretty weak at SS. Toss in Farmer... That does make the Braves better this season, but the Twins don't get enough for this year. The downgrade from Max to Wallner is greater than the improvement from Minter over the 3 headed Lefty mess they got going on now. But it frees up 3 mil in salary they could use to acquire elsewhere? Idk man, I'm just sitting in my office running out the clock to the weekend...
  14. Actually, Braves need a RF too Braves acquire Kepler Twins acquire Drake Baldwin and AJ Minter I don't know that I like that either, but it's fun to look.
  15. Mets need a RF Mets acquire Kepler? Twins acquire Sean Manaea? Eh, I don't like it.
  16. You can say he's started more games, sure, but let's not pretend as if Jeffers isn't Option A. Jeffers has 100 more PAs for a reason. If the Twins had a legit DH option for longer stretches, Jeffers wouldn't be seeing so many starts there.
  17. Ok, guy saying a dude that just hit a walk-off homerun isn't MLB caliber. He's probably being played too much, but let's not pretend as if Jeffers doesn't have 100 more PAs than him. And you want to ignore 2023, but I assume you also want to ignore that Vazquez has been more valuable the last month as well, because that doesn't fit in with your hyperbolic narrative. Vazquez kinda sucks. There's no way around it. But almost every team's backup catcher kinda sucks. That's the job.
  18. Frankly, you don't know what you're talking about. He's not MLB starting caliber. But half the teams in the league would take him as a backup. These last couple seasons, he's ranked 38th amongst the 62 Catchers with at least 200 PAs. Are we paying him too much for his production? Yes. But be for real.
  19. The vibes are incredibly high in Queens right now. And their bullpen sucks. They're not selling from their weakness and signaling to their fans that they're quitting. Two bad weeks after the break, maybe. But Reed has been used heavily and already looks his old self again. Pass and not even worth discussing.
  20. Guy I kinda want is Lorenzen. Still disappointed we didn't sign him in the off-season and our complete lack of SP depth still terrifies me. SWR has been great but is also already approaching his previous high workload. What's our plan if he hits a wall? Or Paddack for that matter? Festa isn't ready and Varland doesn't have it. Boushley? Dobnak?
  21. Honestly shocked Thielbar isn't on there, but that's recency bias since he had -0.58 in June! Hard to remember he was pretty decent in May.
  22. Severino had a .500 BABIP in June. Like, how is that even possible?
  23. Serious Question: Why aren't Canterino or Headrick on the 60 Day IL? Twins need to add Brooks to the 40 man if he's going to get called up, which I think is the appropriate move. But it is full right now since those two appear to be on there yet.
