    Completely agree, though that's not to say I think they should be actively looking to trade them. However, if Washington - just as a made-up example - were willing to give up Strasburg for one of the three plus a mid-tier prospect, wouldn't that be pretty appealing? Or even one of them straight up for Scherzer (or some real reckless speculation here: Strasburg and Scherzer for 2 of the 3, plus 2-3 mid-tier prospects). Our lineup backing up Scherzer/Strasburg, Berrios, Perez in a short playoff series inspires a lot more confidence than Berrios, Perez, Gibson/Odo.

    Ummmm....kind of an inconsequential comment here but Baldelli isn't even a millennial according to some definitions (e.g. US Census Bureau).

    There is another Nationals pitcher they could target should Washington continue to struggle: Strasburg. He has an opt out.

    I wonder if the Twins could work out some sort of trade with Atlanta, as the Braves appear to have a ton of pitching prospect depth and not much in the middle infield. e.g. Gordon for Bryse Wilson?

    They were sniped by the marlins (Johnson) and another team (don’t know which) on their first and second targets for their round 2 pick, with overslot offers to both. Full disclosure, secondhand sourcing here (friend of a friend in the org.).

    I've always had this thought that for someone to get into the HOF he should have to have been generally regarded - or at least have a reasonable argument - as being the best player in the game at his position for some healthy amount of time (not very scientific, I know), in additional to the lifetime stats, postseason results, etc. For this reason I think Johan belongs in (definitely best in 2006, in the conversation in 2005, and probably best in 2004) but just don't think Morris or Blyleven - among others - should be in.

    Probably doesn't qualify for this list due to being traded/DFA'd mid-season (if I recall correctly...and yeah, too lazy to google it) but I'd like to offer up the name of one Butch Huskey.

    Wait, they are saying that a 1B that doesn't hit for power, doesn't drive people in, doesn't steal bases, and (at least recently) doesn't hit for great average is not a valuable fantasy player? hmmmm....they must be biased against the Twins.

    Both sides could be doing it for cost certainty. Arbitration obviously can get quite expensive for the twins with outperformance and, on the flip side of the coin, injuries/regression could cost Dozier in arb. So maybe they are doing an extension with possible club and/or player options just for that certainty.

    Largely agree on both points. Although to be fair you are incorrect that these players making this amount of income are paying uncle sam. After standard deduction, personal exemption, and earned income tax credit it is unlikely any of them have a tax bill.

    I tend to believe that context matters. Where is the contextual connection between endorsing a candidate in a different state than this one and his signing to play right field for the Twins? Also, when I said "everyone" I was engaging in hyperbole. I tend to pretty much always like "mike wants wins" viewpoints on TD but you shouldn't always be so literal.

    I think any of those types of questions are ridiculous so we're probably in agreement there.

    Not that it should matter but everyone seems to be qualifying their posts with whether they agree, politically, with Hunter or Berardino. I fall pretty much in the middle of the two. I really enjoy reading, talking, arguing politics. However, I don't always enjoy it. When I don't enjoy it I go to sports and specifically to the Twins. I can't imagine I'm alone in the thought I want my sports completely devoid of political discussions. In this way I think Berardino failed miserably. This was not a relevant line of questioning to bring up. It had (almost) nothing to do with the game. He may as well have also asked him what his favorite color is or whether he likes Thai food. Berardino was simply engaging in ego gratification, knowing he'd be lauded by the "tolerant" readers out there.

    What would it take to land D'Arnaud from the Mets? They have a top 100 catching prospect (Plawecki) waiting in the wings. Might be expensive in terms of prospect(s) but wouldn't the trade ultimately look like Suzuki + top prospect for D'Arnaud + mid-level prospect? I'd consider that....obviously depending on who our top prospect would be.

    No Pelfrey. No Harden (minor league contract, I know, but that didn't stop you from adding Matsuzaka, Zambrano, etc.). Also, to nitpick a bit more, let's say they did sign Kuroda for the $15m or even more; that would NOT have eaten up the entire budget. If we make the assumption that they could have spent up to 52% of the revenue that would put them at a max payroll of about $110m. We could have signed 2 Kuroda's and still be within budget. Time to stop cheerleading every move the FO makes. I'm all for praising them when they make good moves (i.e. trading the 2 centerfielders for pitching) but why can't we call them out for making decisions that don't appear to be benefiting the team?

    For some odd reason I'm with you on the metrodome. Don't get me wrong, I know it's a pile but my best sport memories are from that place. Nice list.

    Food for thought... Doing a quick check of accuracy of last years' final mocks. KLaw, SI, and Baseball America all had Appel going #1 with only KLaw seeming to have significant doubt about Houston going with him. Just thought I'd throw that out there for everyone who thinks that the draft will go a certain way (i.e. some combo of Gray, Appel, Bryant going 1,2,3).
