  1. They stated in the telecast that Cease has went over 100 pitches each of his last 3 starts. The way that he's going, he could get through the 7th.
  2. Move over Shohei. There's a new Japanese phenom in town, at least while he is in Minnesota.
  3. Connor is done. Now the question is whether the shifting tides of the bullpen can hold it.
  4. Not sure Bell could have caught it even if he had the glove in the plaza to use.
  5. The wheels are starting to wobble. Not sure he will get through the 5th.
  6. Springer is going to be thrilled they are not playing the Twins anymore this season after this weekend. He's been hurt twice, both times playing the Twins.
  7. He doesn't get to anymore unless he replaces his divot.
  8. Mission accomplished Matt Wallner. You didn't ground into a double or triple play and advanced the runners. Baby steps.
  9. The last step of a decent starter seems to be how they can adapt to the lineup's game plan and how they can get out of trouble. Sim seems to fail in his ability to bear down and get out of trouble. I'm not sure if he loses focus, does not adapt, or is not confident in his pitches. The first two runs were not Sim's fault. You have a passed ball by Caratini and bad throw by Bell. It's Sim's inability to control it once Buck ties the game that concerns me. Until Abel comes back, we are stuck with him in the lineup and will likely be stuck with him even when Abel comes back since I believe he is out of options. Whatever changes or potential removal to the bullpen will have to be done at the ML level. I cannot imagine that Sim would survive the waiver wire as he is a typical 5th-type starter. The problem the Twins have is that we have 2-3 of them right now (Prielipp, Abel when he comes back, and Sim). The age-old excuse still rules: roster construction and options still wag the dog and until the Twins feel comfortable in their pitching depth, Sim will still be out there.
  10. If for nothing else, they are making Louie work a little bit. Trying to find the positive things.
  11. I would surmise they are banking on the new CBA will raise the value of the team prior to them selling.
  12. I think I read that Abel is nearing being ready for a bullpen session which would then lead to a rehab assignment. My guess is Abel won't be back until later in May, possibly towards Memorial Day weekend. If Zebby looks to keep up what he did on his last start, there's a possibility that SWR goes down with some kind of arm strain and Zebby will get a start or two before Abel comes back.
  13. Something should have been mentioned about Martin going back to his approach that he had when he was at Vanderbilt this season. I think that has greatly helped him this season and, so far, has changed his career trajectory. Preseason, he looked like a player that was going to be lost in the shuffle. Now he looks like he should be getting daily playing time. I agree that Lee's future is not at SS. It could be at 2nd or 3rd or likely a glue player like Kyle Farmer if his defense can become serviceable. Lee seems to be a person willing to tinker or continue to work and try to figure things out until they pull him from the lineup.
  14. I've always wondered if there are crafty righties. We always here about crafty lefties. Ober is starting to remind me of a poor man's Brad Radke. A control pitcher with not a ton of swing and miss stuff but can keep hitters off balance throughout the game. I'm starting to wonder if Buxton should move down to 3rd or 4th in the lineup and swap Martin to the leadoff spot. Martin seems to take a lot of pitches, get on base, and can steal a base. What we really like in an old school leadoff spot. Buxton was successful with ROB when Bader was hitting at the bottom of the lineup. Him or no one like him is at the bottom of the lineup anymore. If you want to use Buxton to the best of his abilities, he probably needs to move down in the lineup. Here is a potential lineup: Martin, Larnach, Buxton, Bell, Jeffers, then 6-9 can be however they want it since nobody is really contributing at the moment.
  15. We are up to Meat Loaf territory in 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Now it's up to the Wolves to improve on Meat Loaf.
  16. I know. C-Gangster needs to change his Bullpen Color Watch to the Molly Hatchet Watch. How much are we flirting with disaster?
  17. Topa! Topa! He's our man! If he can't do it, we are in trouble!
  18. Real question is now whether you feel comfortable leaving Morris out there to finish the game and collect a save since it is still technically a save situation for him.
  19. I don't hate the move. There probably isn't another option on the bench and I would expect Outman to come in and play defense for the ninth.
  20. I still say that you can't send them all. Sometimes you just have to live with the team you assembled. You have to have answers in AAA before you send the short bus across the river. Wallner can get replaced by Erod. Keaschall could get replaced by Culpepper moving Lee and Clemens to 2nd. That's probably about it.
  21. Three. Pitchers may be the most gifted athletes on the field. Never suggested they were deep thinkers.
  22. I understand that is probably an expected play for Lewis. But we have seen many times that popped up just out of the reach Lewis or Lee so it is nice that he made that play.
