  1. I like your enthusiasm Trev, but it's over. Have we been watching the same game? They seem to be going through the motions tonight.
  2. I was hoping that Pat Murphy would channel his inner Rocco and take the kid out with six innings but only 80 pitches. He's back out there!
  3. If this disaster is finished for the Twins, he would be the third youngest in the NL to throw a perfect game and would be the second youngest in the AL only to Catfish Hunter.
  4. Much closer than it should have been. Had to go to replay to get the call. Wheels on the bus are coming off.....
  5. And with only 63 pitches through 5, he may yet get a CG opportunity if he gets another quick inning.
  6. Did he hire Angel Hernandez to run the place?!?!
  7. I thought they just put it on the TV screen that he just set the record for hitless innings for a starting pitcher with 9.
  8. One thing with Joe Ryan that is beginning to concern me is the outward reaction to pitches that aren't getting called. For better or worse, I can see umpires not giving him anything close due to his antics on the mound. That runs his pitch count up and now we see that he will barely be a 5-inning pitcher when we really need 6-7 out of him more often than not.
  9. Yes. I knew that. I guess I wasn't clear of what I meant. I don't believe that his criticisms of players or team philosophies will be affected by Jomboy's deal with MLB. At least I hope not as he is not openly critical of MLB themselves as an organization or league.
  10. I wouldn't think so and I hope not. His commentary hasn't been necessarily critical of MLB as an organization, just players or a team philosophy in general.
  11. Sorry, I got ahead of myself. There are plenty of comments on this forum complaining about the 50th article blaming Rocco for screwing the game up, the 22nd article about how horrible of owners the Pohlads are and when they are going to sell the team, the 18th article about why they haven't sold the team yet or the 32nd article on whether Royce Lewis will ever be healthy enough to contribute on a regular basis to the team (fwiw, I made the numbers up and did not got back and count). Everyone gets an opinion on what articles are being written and to discuss such articles, which is what the comment section is intended for. Sometimes, it's necessary to make a point that the juice is not worth the squeeze, or in this case, try to point it back towards baseball.
  12. I don't want to pour cold water on the kid, but maybe we should pump the brakes for the moment. It's a great accomplishment to pitch a no-hitter at the CWS, but it was against Murray State, a team whose Cinderella slipper finally fell off. The Twins should stay the course on their scouting and draft the best available player that addresses their future needs. Drafting good pitching is never out of style.
  13. I'll make it quite clear on discussing the article. I don't care what Willi did or did not do or what Willi was or was not trying to support. What Willi supports is up to Willi and what he is willing to discuss and what he believes in is all up him and we should not surmise what his intentions were. I care that Willi went 2-5 and played good defense enroute to a Twins win. I care if Willi may end up being traded at the deadline if the team doesn't turn it around in the next month. You don't know what my personal politics are. I could be the most supportive person and still do not want politics/social issues on a sports-centric forum. As for clicking and commenting on the article, I am a voracious reader of articles on this forum and typically read all of the articles that are put out and comment on most of them. I've been fairly consistent that I do not desire political views/social dynamics leaking into this forum. I was consistent on the previous article and will be consistent on this one.
  14. I'll be the second person that will help take the arrows off your back. I had hoped we had learned our lesson from the last article that dabbled into politics. We are only 12 comments in and already sliding off the rails with intention of the article and starting to call out other TD members. I do believe the article was well written for the subject matter. Like @Mark G, I watch Twins games and interact with this forum as a way to release from the stresses of daily life in a common space where we all have a common goal: to watch the Twins win and lament when they don't. As for what the Twins promoters do with their promotions, be it Pride Day, Faith Day, Military Appreciation Day, Pablo Day, etc., are all promotions to try to get fans into the seats and those don't affect me in terms of watching the game and cheering on the Twins. Finally, thank you for the people who keep up this forum as a way for all of us to discuss the Twins. Like @Mark G, take care everyone!
  15. A lot of people are concerned about TB stadium situation as a huge negative. I see it as a potential positive for a new owner as all of the concerned parties (Tampa, St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Hillsborough County) were done dealing with Stu Sternberg. A new owner could reopen negotiations on the Gas Plant District in St. Petersburg or the Ybor City location in Tampa. Another reason this may be a positive for a new owner is that baseball owners have upped their greed game in now not only having stadiums paid for largely by public funding, but now they want so many thousands of square acres surrounding the stadium in order to sell development as part of the whole stadium experience. This selling of developmental rights will pay off the team and the new owners could give two shakes at the lack of fans in the stands. This is something the Twins cannot provide because as great as Target Field is, it's basically squeezed into its location and not owned by the Pohlads. I don't see this ownership group moving the team to Jacksonville, potentially Orlando, but I think the new owners want to take advantage of the good vibes and deal with the TB area first before working on Orlando. As for how this affects the Twins, I am discouraged as well as this gives credence that the Pohlads valuation is acceptable and will hold out and we may not see a buyer in the near future, especially if they are expected to take on the debt in some way or form.
  16. I'll preface this by saying that I don't want to see anyone hurt and a speedy recovery for Jeffers. For those who were in the "Free Gasper" camp may get their wish as I suspect he would be the backup catcher brought up from St. Paul if Jeffers goes on the IL. With that being said, this may be a small blessing in disguise as Vazquez will get more time behind the dish. I know his hitting is atrocious, but most teams rarely depend on their catchers for substantive offensive production. Most teams have catchers for their abilities to hold down the running game, frame pitches, and manage pitching staffs. We just have been overly blessed to have a string of competent offensive catchers since Terry Steinbach, including AJ Pierzynski, Joe Mauer, Kurt Suzuki, Garver, Jeffers, and Jason Castro. Many of us on TD have stated that it looks like that Vazquez looks better at handling the staff than Jeffers. Our pitching staff just suddenly got a lot younger over the last couple weeks and having a long-time veteran behind the dish is invaluable.
  17. Over the last 10 games, here's a list of teams who are better than us: Marlins (6-4), Pirates (5-5), Rockies (4-6), White Sox (3-7), A's (6-4), Orioles (6-4). Angels, who were left for dead, are only 1 game back from us in the standings.
  18. At least we pressured him into a normal Pagan-like save, always on the verge of disaster.
  19. Larnach, Bader, and Wallner for the 9th. No more bench moves for the Twins.
  20. Another walk. Were the Pohlads sponsoring a 5K in Cincinatti this week?
  21. It was always going to be Pagan. He is the closer and actually half decent with the Reds. I'll reiterate that Pagan owes us a blown save or three. 🙃
  22. Reds need another hit so the box score doesn't look as bad as it is to the passing onlooker. Six runs on five hits just looks terrible.
  23. I would have preferred France getting to 2nd before possibly subbing in Keirsey Jr to PR, but here we are, a strike em out throw em out double play.
  24. Unlikely, I would see Castro or Clemens playing first.
