    And I wouldn't mess with Sands right now. He's found a groove in the 'pen and the Twins could stand to use all the help they can get from their relievers - despite the 'best bullpen in baseball' narrative that was floated before spring training. I wouldn't overthink it. SWR in, Varland down. If no other reason, show that players are held accountable.

    Pitchers need to be perfect for this team to win games right now. When Detroit scored 2 in the first and the Twins didn't capitalize with the bases loaded, you knew it was an L.

    That's true. IIRC, they have 10 wins against those three teams and the Twins had every opportunity to take the two games at Target Field. On paper, the Guardians aren't anything special but it might just be one of those fluke seasons where everything goes right for them.

    Popkins is too young. Maybe he'll be a good hitting coach one day. But he simply doesn't have the experience to be at the major league level. He was a questionable hire at best when it was made and it only looks worse with time.

    I don't think age is the issue for Farmer. He wouldn't have gone from 2023 production to the worst hitter in the majors all in the span of an off season. This team is just completely lost at the plate.

    Maybe when Correa and Lewis get back, they go a run. With Lopez, Ryan and Ober, there's enough starting pitching. But the tailspin may do more damage than they can overcome.

    Wasn't pretty, but you have to start somewhere. Need Varland to step up and win the series. Do that and then onto the White Sox.

    I think Thielbar is washed. Great teammate and local product but right now, he shouldn't be taking up a roster spot with Funderburk and Okert in the pen. Using him last night is on Rocco. But he shouldn't even have the option.

    With Lewis, they're probably at .500 or a game or two over. Baseball gods not just frowning in the Twins but also smiling on the Indians and Royals. I don't think anyone anticipated them playing this well. It's early but a 7 game hole isn't inconsequential and it is just looking like one of those years.
