  1. When a player remains unsigned, a lot of information comes from the agent looking to create a bidding war or increased interest. But, this after the fact stuff - it is most likely coming from the Twins - who reports the info is irrelevant. The source matters and in this case, I'd be shocked if the source wasn't someone in the organization. The subjectivity is off the charts. They were 'heavily' involved - meaning what exactly. In a lot of high-profile signings, we'll hear about what other teams offered in terms of dollars and years - haven't gotten that level of detail on the Twins pursuit likely because it never got to that point. Tough to put any stock in these reports because they are counter-intuitive to everything this team has done since July and continues to do.
  2. He was solid for the Twins in 2022. Just not seeing how he'll make much of an impact this time around - especially when you considering how bad he was last season.
  3. For the love of all that's holy, please stop with the 'pipeline'. Just rebrand these articles to say, Overview of Shortstop Prospects, or some such thing.
  4. Twins, pipeline, and talent - three words that shouldn't be used in the same sentence.
  5. The Twins aren't going to win the AL Central and they may not even be an 80 win team. But...I still don't see Detroit as some type of juggernaut even with Valdez.
  6. I might just be so jaded, but I can't put much stock into the whole 'pursuit' of Valdez. IIRC, a few years back, there were 2-3 consecutive off-seasons where the Twins were subsequently named as a 'mystery' team that was supposedly in on big name free agents. Yu Darvish instantly comes to mind. Too coincidental. Tom P. talks about contending. And suddenly, the Twins were going after Valdez and oh, they made an offer for Peralta. Not buying it.
  7. IMO, when you're saying a player is underrated, it means their production or contributions are undervalued - it doesn't necessarily mean that they're capable of taking that next step or that they have a higher ceiling to reach.
  8. Falvey was given marching orders - here's how much you spend, here's the players you trade, etc.. It will be no different with Zoll. Just hope he does a better job in executing those orders than Falvey did.
  9. I'd go so far as to add that there isn't a GM or VP of ops across the four professional sports that would advocate for the type of tear down that the Twins had last summer. It's a nearly impossible job and even if you 'hit' on the return, by the time those prospects are playing in the big leagues, the GM is usually long gone. Simply put, the GM isn't spending his own money when he signs a free agent.
  10. I don't think Zoll lead the charge with the tear down. I think that came from ownership and Zoll was tasked with finding trade partners. You can certainly argue he didn't get enough or get the right pieces back, but a sell off of that magnitude - it's not mandated from someone at Zoll's level or even Falvey's.
  11. I'd like to think this marks a big shift or change in direction (in a good way) but I don't see Zoll doing anything differently - at least not enough to move the needle. Until the franchise (Tom Pohlad) develops a different philosophy, the Twins are kind of stuck in neutral.
  12. Wow. I wonder if Falvey is out because he wanted to be - i.e., tired of the penny pinching - or if Tom Pohlad grew tired of the roster construction.
  13. Whenever I read 'pipeline' in connection to the Twins' minor league talent, I instantly lose all hope.
  14. Gargantuan sized ifs...Lewis, Lee, Keaschall, Wallner. Buck staying healthy. There's a path to a team that is over .500 but the Twins never catch a break so, under is more likely.
  15. Julien seemed to develop the yips. It was like he was afraid to swing the bat. Miranda, and I could be wrong, seemed to have some focus or dedication issues and wasn't really locked in. I think the best part of this move is an open spot on the 40 man. Hopefully a relief pitcher is in coming.
  16. In 2023, I never would have thought Julien's career would have went the way it did. Also surprised on Ohl. I know his stuff may not play, but I felt like he settled in once the Twins started using him for one inning rather than multiple innings. Oh well. Hopefully the Twins aren't done addressing the bullpen.
  17. Identify the right players / prospects... Get those players / prospects in the trade... Develop those players / prospects once you get in the farm system... A lot of things need to break right for the Twins to win a Joe Ryan trade and I'm not really confident in Falvey to pull it off, nor am I confident in the way the Twins develop their prospects.
  18. This front office has an uncanny ability to double down on mistakes.
  19. There was a time when a player like Lee would be viewed with optimism going into the upcoming season. He has one full major league season on his resume. Analytics have really changed the game, for better or worse. He certainly has work to do but I think it is too early to think he can't be better or that he didn't make strides in the off-season.
  20. Yup. Two years of team control. Good news for sure.
  21. Yeah, wondering the same.
  22. The Twins have upside - Lee, Keaschall, Lewis, Wallner - if those four could stay healthy and reach or come close to their respective ceilings, it will be a competitive team. Admittedly, it is a giant IF.
  23. In no particular order... Cole Sands Kody Funderburk Justin Topa Taylor Rogers Eric Orze That's five. Need to get to eight. Presuming Ohl is one of those.
