  1. I don't hate it. Probably the best move they made this off-season.
  2. If you look at it in a vacuum, there's nothing inherently wrong with signing Liam Hendriks to a minor league deal. But, there is something inherently wrong with this current iteration of the roster and ownership's complete unwillingness to make changes and moves that will result in a better team and on field product.
  3. I would have been happy with Nick Martinez. Could have stabilized the bullpen either by being a full time reliever or settling in at the back of the rotation and freeing up another young starter to make the transition to the bullpen. Rays got him for $13M. But, alas, Liam Hendricks, welcome back.
  4. Twins are too focused on 'playoff caliber starting pitchers' to worry about the bullpen.
  5. More tea leaves that the 'serious interest' in Valdez and Peralta was nothing more than the Twins pushing a narrative.
  6. Different sport but I think there's a lot of similarities - in 2009, after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired Jon Gruden and cut long-time franchise icons like Derrick Brooks and Warrick Dunn, there was a report from ESPN that the Bucs made an offer to Albert Haynesworth who at the time was the marquee free agent in the NFL - then the story changed and it came out that the Bucs' offer came in AFTER Haynesworth signed with Washington. So teams will use the media for misinformation and furthering narratives - that's all that is happening here. The Twins were 'interested' - of course they were - who wouldn't be interested in that kind of pitcher? Interest doesn't equate to made a legitimate offer.
  7. Dodgers don't make a lot of personnel mistakes. If they dumped him, then he's likely about to hit the end of his shelf life as a reliable reliever.
  8. Clearly this is the kind of a move a team makes when they had their sights set on Valdez and Peralta.
  9. When a player remains unsigned, a lot of information comes from the agent looking to create a bidding war or increased interest. But, this after the fact stuff - it is most likely coming from the Twins - who reports the info is irrelevant. The source matters and in this case, I'd be shocked if the source wasn't someone in the organization. The subjectivity is off the charts. They were 'heavily' involved - meaning what exactly. In a lot of high-profile signings, we'll hear about what other teams offered in terms of dollars and years - haven't gotten that level of detail on the Twins pursuit likely because it never got to that point. Tough to put any stock in these reports because they are counter-intuitive to everything this team has done since July and continues to do.
  10. He was solid for the Twins in 2022. Just not seeing how he'll make much of an impact this time around - especially when you considering how bad he was last season.
  11. For the love of all that's holy, please stop with the 'pipeline'. Just rebrand these articles to say, Overview of Shortstop Prospects, or some such thing.
  12. Twins, pipeline, and talent - three words that shouldn't be used in the same sentence.
  13. The Twins aren't going to win the AL Central and they may not even be an 80 win team. But...I still don't see Detroit as some type of juggernaut even with Valdez.
  14. I might just be so jaded, but I can't put much stock into the whole 'pursuit' of Valdez. IIRC, a few years back, there were 2-3 consecutive off-seasons where the Twins were subsequently named as a 'mystery' team that was supposedly in on big name free agents. Yu Darvish instantly comes to mind. Too coincidental. Tom P. talks about contending. And suddenly, the Twins were going after Valdez and oh, they made an offer for Peralta. Not buying it.
  15. IMO, when you're saying a player is underrated, it means their production or contributions are undervalued - it doesn't necessarily mean that they're capable of taking that next step or that they have a higher ceiling to reach.
  16. Falvey was given marching orders - here's how much you spend, here's the players you trade, etc.. It will be no different with Zoll. Just hope he does a better job in executing those orders than Falvey did.
  17. I'd go so far as to add that there isn't a GM or VP of ops across the four professional sports that would advocate for the type of tear down that the Twins had last summer. It's a nearly impossible job and even if you 'hit' on the return, by the time those prospects are playing in the big leagues, the GM is usually long gone. Simply put, the GM isn't spending his own money when he signs a free agent.
  18. I don't think Zoll lead the charge with the tear down. I think that came from ownership and Zoll was tasked with finding trade partners. You can certainly argue he didn't get enough or get the right pieces back, but a sell off of that magnitude - it's not mandated from someone at Zoll's level or even Falvey's.
  19. I'd like to think this marks a big shift or change in direction (in a good way) but I don't see Zoll doing anything differently - at least not enough to move the needle. Until the franchise (Tom Pohlad) develops a different philosophy, the Twins are kind of stuck in neutral.
  20. Wow. I wonder if Falvey is out because he wanted to be - i.e., tired of the penny pinching - or if Tom Pohlad grew tired of the roster construction.
  21. Whenever I read 'pipeline' in connection to the Twins' minor league talent, I instantly lose all hope.
  22. Gargantuan sized ifs...Lewis, Lee, Keaschall, Wallner. Buck staying healthy. There's a path to a team that is over .500 but the Twins never catch a break so, under is more likely.
