  1. Perez is a triple-play pitcher! Of course, to get a triple play you generally have to load the bases, which has been his strong suit.
  2. AND they're paying $50 million of the $75 owed Greinke the remainder of his contract.
  3. He has the barrel chest like Castillo. We'll have to see if he has the game defensively to stick. Otherwise, he kind of reminds me (not physically) of Jose Oquendo.
  4. Playoff experience is a plus - and if the Twins get to the World Series, you pitch him in the NL park and let him hit.
  5. Sounds like it. Just try to bring him in at the start of an inning, and not when runners are on base. I like the low walks, and the effectiveness against lefties. I think the team is better with him, but they still need another reliable arm.
  6. I want to know when Jeff Bumgarner and Steve Gasser are finally going to arrive.
  7. There's just no place in the lineup that an opposing pitcher or manager can relax. Castro and Buxton used to be a little refresher, but not any more. And if the rare case where the Twins want to pinch-hit, you've got good bats that are getting regular playing time to choose from. They flat wear you down as a series goes on.
  8. It's not just Buxton's rhythm - his presence in the 9-hole is creating opportunities for the top of the order. He's getting fewer ABs, but the team is getting a lot of runs.
  9. Exactly. We see how the other team's react when Buxton gets on base as he reduces their margin for error and can force mistakes. Sano does the same at the plate. Trying to keep the ball low and away from him with runners on can turn in to low-and-too-far-away, or even a short hop.
  10. Kepler's 10-pitch opening at-bat is, I think, what Baldelli likes about having him bat lead-off. Sure, he's capable of depositing a first-pitch of the game over the wall, he looks comfortable in the role. A 9-pitch at-bat for Rosario also shows how much he has matured. Now if some of that new-found patience at the plate could rub off on Astudillo, oh my!
  11. A couple of reasons. One of the voices is quite grating; again, I love the content, but it's very distracting. The second reason is that sometimes the conversations bog down or get off on tangents and I'd like the option to skim ahead in the text to topics or questions that are more interesting. I fully understand that the podcasts are a free service, and I appreciate the knowledge and the time that goes into them. Having a transcript available, and the ability to search key words, makes the casts more accessible (to me, anyway).
  12. Any chance we can get transcripts of the podcasts this year? I've listened before and love the insight, but I just can't handle the "sound".
  13. I went to a couple of Saints games last year, and I don't like the constant "entertainment". I like some fun, and not taking things too seriously, but it's overdone and distracting from the game. I hate it when I look out on the field and have to ask myself, "Hey, how did that guy get on second base?"
  14. I think the goal is that for the young guys, it might mean they are ready in 3 years, rather than 4 or 5, or never. It may also give the coaches and FO an opportunity to discover sooner who needs to be cut or traded.
  15. Are you sure Parks didn't say he was a cross between Jose Santana and Gord Maddux?
  16. No, but if the money is right, and with Sano still being a huge (but perhaps slimmer) question-mark, he could see that there’s opportunity.
  17. An impact bat is going to cost you something (and it should). If the price of writing Cruz in everyday in the 4th or 5th spot is an intriguing, but incomplete, player like Austin, then I pay it, especially with the prospects in the pipeline.
  18. How long before Sid refers to him as “Rocco Altobelli”?
  19. Grossman is a good role player, as long as the role isn't too big. He takes good at-bats. I said at the beginning of the year that a good team can use 150-200 at-bats from a guy like Grossman over the course of the year; a bad team gives him more than 200. Um, let's see...yep, the Twins this year are a bad team.
  20. Beloved by apothecaries and dispensers of indigestion powders.
  21. What lost assets? They traded guys who are going to be free agents, or otherwise weren't part of the long-term plan? Pressly was the only one who's career could be considered to be on the rise, but maybe the FO doesn't like what's in his head. These guys (even Escobar in a career year) were chips, not assets. Assets are guys like those you mentioned, Royce Lewis, Alex Kirilloff, Brusdar Graterol, Nick Gordon, Stephen Gonsalves, Brent Rooker, and Trevor Larnach. Did you see any of them getting sent out in a lost season?
  22. I'm wondering if, at some point, Trevor May doesn't make an Aquilera-like transition to be the closer. He seemed to do well, mentally, in high-leverage situations out of the pen two years ago, and his fastball is plus, especially if he doesn't have to pace himself as a starter. I suppose if it gets to that point, though, something in the Falvine plan has gone very wrong.
  23. No, the traditional Twins rotation consisted of bringing matches to a mound of black powder.
  24. But who's going to eat those Chris Gimenez innings?
