  1. That's crazy, Corey and Danny were talking about it too.
  2. I thought all our posts smelled like alcohol?
  3. I think Pedro made sweet, sweet love to a leprechaun last night, we should be down 6-1 right now.
  4. No amount of drinking will erase that 2/3 of an inning. I will carry it with me like some horrific bus crash on the evening news.
  5. We'll have a cure in no time at this rate.
  6. He attacked the zone well today, unfortunately the zone survived all attacks.
  7. The ball was really coming out of his hand well today, just not crossing the strike zone.
  8. That hasn't happened to me since I was 13.
  9. As a half dozen other people have already mentioned, there are 40 man considerations in play here. You don't just throw players of value away in a situation like this. Anyone saying we should waive Hernandez doesn't understand the value a AAAA starter stashed in the minors has. You know, like for when your scheduled starter hurts his back shagging fly balls... Wouldn't want Pedro as anything more than an MLB 5th starter/spot starter for injury at this time. But a player of that caliber (especially a lefty) has value.
  10. At the risk of Jinxing him terribly, I'll go ahead and predict he bats .400 this series and sluggs a nice round .600. Oh, and 5 RBI.
  11. Alright Chief, you've made the point. Baseball is certainly a special type of business. Granted. Now, to compare the mid market Twins to the Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers is not fair. Those team can throw 200M into their roster and still come out better than the Twins in the ledger. So really it's less "Desire to Win at All Costs" and more we're filthy stinking rich and we have more disposable income. I share many of your frustrations with the Twins. I just choose to view their shortcomings in a more positive light. If I didn't do that, why would I bother being a fan? I'd stick my eggs in the Wild basket, or the Rubio/Love Timberwolves basket. But I was a Twins fan first, and I will be a Twins fan last. Call me an appologist if you will, but I support the team as a business, as a form of entertainment, as an experience, and I won't look for excuses to denigrate them. That's my stance and I'm sticking to it
  12. Not often you can look at the pitching match-ups alone and feel good about a Twins sweep. Throw our hot bats into the mix and I like our chances of moving up in the standings.
  13. That may be the worst source in the history of sources.
  14. Well, I assumed it referred to 3rd tier, or is that too logical?
  15. Probably like any failing business.
  16. Don't forget the defense has been much more solid, especially the middle infield. That is worth a fair amount of wins right there over a season (or half a season). But what it really comes down, as others have pointed out, is that we have a very solid 3-5 in our rotation. In fact, the Twins might have one of the better 3-5 punches around. Add in Gibson and perhaps 1 other and the rotation is average at worst. Bullpen has been excellent.
  17. I couldn't tell if that was Julie Newmar, Ertha Kitt, or Lee Meriwhether. And I only know those three actresses from that one episode of the Simpsons where they meet Adam West.
  18. Honestly, I don't think many people on here understand just how much of a business baseball is. They see it as a game, one they want their team to win, money be damned. Case in point: "They get 25MM for free next year." You mean the business found new income that will earn them 25MM more next year? Does your company get crushed for not dumping every new revenue stream into R&D? Mine sure doesn't, they run the business in the most profitable way possible and give the customer the best product available. So do the Twins.
  19. What is boils down to is that you and many other fans expect the team to win first, make money second. That is simply not the way it works in the real world. Of course the Twins care about community image, any good business would. But companies don't generally do things for the community out of the goodness of their heart. They do so because in the long run that goodwill will make them more money. When the Twins were asking for funding help for a stadium they implied the extra revenue could and would be used to put a better team on the field. That doesn't mean spending to spend. That doesn't mean making second rate decisions in an attempt to buy a few more wins. It does mean making correct decision and when the opportunity presents itself, spending more than they would/could have had they still been in the dome. Anyone who thought different did not fully understand the situation or the "promises."
  20. I agree with Johnny on this one. Hard to envision Hammer putting up any worse numbers the rest of the year or next year. We get a C prospect with limited upside for him right now, which is basically nothing.
