  1. Try 20-25, maybe more. If there were a second Joe Mauer then even the thrifty Twins might claim him off waivers and play him somewhere else. Elite players are very hard to get, and Mauer is most definitely elite.
  2. And now it's time for the easiest part of a coaches job: The cuts. Now, while I wasn't able to cut everyone I wanted, I was able to cut a lot of you....
  3. Wow, who is this bum we're trotting out to the mound? Send him packing to AAA, or better yet DFA.
  4. This makes me want to actually root for the Royals to make the playoffs.
  5. 98 MPH fastball to end it. Very nice work gentlemen. Always a good day when you can chalk up 2 Ws.
  6. What was inappropriate about what I said? It was a Star Wars quote?
  7. I do. At least more than a meaningless preseason game. Come on man.
  8. You're all clear kid, now let's blow this thing and go home!
  9. Maybe Sano, although I hope he sticks at 3rd. 3 years, 20M sounds about right to keep him around as a leader for the next wave. He can DH if someone else absolutely HAS to play 1st.
  10. Ummm, it was mostly a joke pal. My only child is 14 months and I give her pretty much anything she wants. You have some daddy issues you're working through over there?
  11. Part of me (the stern father?) wants to be critical of this. But on the other hand, a little lighthearted fooling around during an awesome moment seems like the right way to play the game. Thoughts?
  12. There are plenty of bright spots for the year: Dozier - showing he can stick and be a + MLBer Floriman - showing he can stick at the MLB level Arcia - flashing great plate talent Hicks - showing flashes of the above average MLBer he will be The Pen - one of the best in baseball despite a lot of innings Deduno - showing he can stick as a 4-5 starter Thomas - showing more talent and results than anyone (including me) gave him credit for - should stick somewhere as a 4th outfielder now at least Other than that, I bet we are excited by some of the Sept call-ups. Jury is still out on Parm and Plouffe. Those were specifically two things I wanted clarified this year that seem unlikely to be. Rotation has been much worse than I expected.
  13. Might be a great leader to some of the kiddies next year. All he has to do is rebound to 25 HR and 80 RBI, OPS = .850 to be a value guy on his contract. I don't think that is unlikely if he's healthy.
  14. My money (such as it is) is on Texas getting Morney with a waiver trade. I just have a feeling.
  15. Nevermind, I just looked it up. I knew there was a reason I liked Neshek.
  16. I missed it, did Neshek call him out?
  17. Is anyone else sick of entitled, immature pro sports figures acting worse than my 2 year old and then apologizing while blaming their "competitiveness?" Personally I don't care how competitive you are, if you can't act like an adult you don't have my respect. Just once I'd like one of these prima donnas to be honest and say "I'm a talented athlete that makes millions of dollars and I can act any way I want. Deal with it." That would at least be an honest expression of their mindset.
  18. To be fair Puck, I didn't say he was a proven successful MLB pitcher. I said he has proven he can be successful at the MLB level." There's a potentially big difference.
  19. Agree to a point, but don't undervalue the possession of 2-3 AAAA type arms to supplement the MLB rotation for injury/lack of success. Even if the Twins were sending 5 talented MLB pitchers out there every 5 days, you still need backups, every team does. That being said, you are absolutely correct that the presence of those backup guys CAN'T impede the progress of more talented arms.
  20. Even then I chafe at the "unwritten rule." Play to win the game, I couldn't care less about the individual accomplishment of the opposing pitcher. And 5 runs is no longer a safe cushion against any team. Maybe 10, but even then why not play hard to win with every out? It's not like bunting is some secret, ultra-effective weapon. It's a low percentage play that becomes a good, high-percentage play in certain situations.
  21. I tend to agree, most unwritten rules in baseball are total BS. The only exceptions in my mind are ones dealing with sportsmanship ie) showing up a guy after a HR, stealing when up by like 10 runs, etc. Most of the bunting "rules" especially are ridiculous. Am I really not supposed to bunt a guy over/in for an insurance run in a close game? Am I really not supposed to bunt for a hit down by 1 run if the opposing pitcher has a no-no going? Totally ridiculous. Play the game like a professional and do whatever you want/need to within the rules. Period.
  22. Diamond has already proven he can have success at the MLB level. I think/hope his issues are mechanical after his elbow surgery last offseason. Gibson is still learning to pitch at the MLB level. Therefor, Gibson will benefit a great deal from learning in the majors while Diamond will benefit a great deal from time spent in AAA. This seems very straight forward.
  23. If he were on my staff I would bench him. Or I'd send out engraved invitations to the next team he faces to bunt 1-9, and when he started complaining I would sprint out to the mound and start screaming in his dumbazz, immature face in front of 30,000 fans until he felt about 2 inches tall. Then I'd bench him. I for one am glad he does not play for my team. He's a very good pitcher, but come on.
