  1. Since you must be referring to the Toronto Blue Jays, they signed George Springer to a 6 year contact for $150 million. They spent more than the Twins while generating less revenue, and went to the playoffs last year with 92 wins.
  2. Thanks for posting this..
  3. Fans have a right to be skeptical. But the reality is that some pitchers are worth the gamble. Carl Pavano was all but washed up, but when the Twins gambled on him he pitched with class. Guess what? Today is Pavano's birthday! The Twins are going to do what they're going to do. As fans all we can do it watch & root for the team. That Pavano was able to pitch 10 complete games for the Twins between 33 - 35 years of age wasn't too shabby. Starting pitchers only need to keep the game close. After that it's up to the hitters and the bullpen. Happy Birthday Carl, the Twins fans still love you! https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pavanca01.shtml
  4. The Twins were offering multiple contract lengths from the beginning. If Correa wants to bet on himself after he gets his guaranteed money then I'll be happy for him & the Twins. Both parties need to take what they can get. I'm glad that the disclaimer was stated that it's unlikely to get done because that's a good reality check. Let's wait for the news to be official.
  5. I don't know if you're aware that the Twins built & share a baseball academy complex with the Phillies in the Dominican Republic. IIRC Duran passed through there. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/mlb/minnesota-twins-open-baseball-academy-in-dominican-republic
  6. One website says that the 'Twins have 270 front office employees, and the team does have a front office directory listing many of them. But the people that you're asking about would be included in the up to 500 total employees mentioned on a business website. If you really want to know then contact the front office and ask them. https://incfact.com/company/minnesotatwins-minneapolis-mn/ https://www.mlb.com/twins/team/front-office
  7. With all due respect, the Twins road to nowhere is only a figment of the author's imagination. Every MLB season is a road to somewhere being the post season. The only problem is that road is not finished yet. Sometimes they need to make some road improvements or new route connections or build a bridge, but I can assured you that every contract leads to somewhere. Just because some folks don't like it or don't know what to think about it doesn't mean that the Twins aren't breaking new ground. In 2023 Joey Gallo may play as good as Roger Maris ever did.. If he does then maybe he'll get resigned, and if he doesn't then he can go play in Japan. Maybe Gallo will hit 30+ HR's and make up for Sano being MIA last year. If Gallo doesn't end up hitting HR's then someone else on the team will. That's the way that team chemistry works. Roads are expensive to complete and require a lot of advanced planning.
  8. If his BA is high because he makes errors then that's not a good thing at all. But if he is a pure hitter then he'd be most useful being a DH. It looked like he had a hole in his glove from the beginning. To me that means that he lacks some fundamental elements of fielding. If he can't kneel in front of a grounder and be willing to stop the ball with his chest then he won't ever be a good infielder. If he's limited to being a hitting specialist then a DH is the best position for him. There's nothing wrong with that as long as the Twins have a need for him.
  9. Folks are too worried about the money. It's TV money & revenue sharing money. The Twins need to spend it on someone and Correa may be the only one willing to come. I would like to see him play along with our improved core, Lewis, Polanco, Arraez, Miranda, & Buck. Plus others to be determined. The Twins realize that he'll bring in the fans. But Correa wants his long term guaranteed money. Ten years should be enough but if he'll sign for $300 mil for 10 or 11 years then get it done. Buck is the wild card regarding health, not Correa. Their 2 contracts will offset each other.
  10. The Twins should find a way to sign him for 10 years. His plate is his insurance & arthritis can be treated with drugs We surely need Correa to play SS. Farmer & Lewis can play 3B & fill in at SS. Someday Correa can play 1B & DH. You gotta' believe that we'll get our money's worth & Correa will get into the Hall of Fame. If this happens then I'll celebrate the possibility of having many winning seasons with Correa aboard. If it doesn't happen then Correa is not willing to bet on himself for the extra years. I still don't believe that Correa wants to move to 3B and it doesn't make sense for the Mets to pay him that much money to play 3B. I don't believe that this rumor is a ruse. Correa went to the open market and ran into some roadblocks. His free agency has made him realize that he needs to bet on himself first and then the money that he deserves will come. He should know that there's more to life than money. Hopefully the Twins will deal with him as fairly as possible and he will sign. That can only lead to other top players being willing to come to Minnesota. It needs to start with someone. First Buxton and now Correa. We've also got a good bullpen. It's time for optimism.
  11. Last Aug. 14th, Wacha won pitching 7 innings against the Yankees giving up zero runs, 2 hits, 9K's. Last Aug. 31st, Wacha won pitching 6 innings against the Twins giving up 2 runs & 4 hits. Last Sept. 22nd, Wacha pitched 6 innings in a no decision against the Yankees giving up 3 runs, 6 hits including 1 HR. I trust the FO enough that if they decide to sign him that means that we need him & could use him and I'll root for him without any reservations. His job is to do his best to keep us in the game against any & all opponents. It seems like he might be a good value with a Spotrac estimated market value of $11.9 mil per year for 4 years Another thing that impresses me is that he pitched a complete game in his first start last year which the Twins haven't had a complete game pitched since Pavano in 2011. If Wacha is willing to come to Minnesota then sign him. His starting pitcher rank is 33rd. He was also a 1st round draft pick in 2012.
  12. I didn't like his wind-up very much. I hope that he can fix it.
  13. I doubt that Kepler can bring anything more than a prospect or two. But the money saved can be applied toward a pitcher. Considering how few innings that our starters are allowed to pitch and the over-reliance on the bullpen game after game. I would like to see a reliever that's stronger than Pagan. I wonder what the price tag would be for Aroldis Chapman who is a free agent and if his contribution would be worth the price tag. If the Twins could sign him (or a similar pitcher) to a prove it deal for his estimated value of $6.6 mil or so then he might be worth the risk. Then accepting the loss of talent on a Kepler trade wouldn't seem to be a such a big loss. Pagan just doesn't cut it for me.
  14. Carlos is a stubborn & prideful man, and the more stubborn & prideful that he is the better for the Twins. The big variable with this tri-partite situation is whether the Giants would be willing to match or beat the Twins best offer. You can be sure that Buxton is on the phone with him urging him to remain stubborn with the Mets. Correa doesn't want to admit that he'd be losing at roulette by accepting any offer that's much less than Lindor is getting from the Mets, & less than he could have received from the Astros for 6 years. Another problem is knowing that he would need to fill in for Lindor if he gets injured. Hey Carlos, a 3B is just not worth as much money as a SS! Carlos should understand that the Twins give players a lot of rest and treat their heroes like royalty. The Twins may change his position someday too, But Carlos needs to admit that if he wants money from the Twins or Giants that he needs to play SS or his value goes down. I would be okay with the Twins offering Carlos $300 mil for 10 years, but not sure if the insurance costs are doable. That small tweak may be able to bring him back as long as he remains stubborn with the Mets and still wants to play full seasons with Buxton. His Puerto Rican connection with Lindor needs to be broken. It's business before pleasure. Friendship alone doesn't make enough sense to me as being the main reason for Carlos to move to 3B and possibly lose his chance for a HOF career as an elite SS. I don't believe that he really wants to settle to be 2nd fiddle when the Mets make their final offer
  15. I think that Esco would be more than a lateral move & an improvement over Urshela. He's among the best switch hitters and has more power. A lot of fans were disappointed when he was traded, and he wasn't able to team up with Polanco. Now if that opportunity exists it become a spark to produce something greater than the sum of its parts. I don't thoroughly trust Miranda playing 3B nor Kirilloff making a total enough recovery to play 1B without proof. Esco has an option so it could only be for one year. Esco is a versatile player who hustles on the base paths with more speed than Urshela. I think that both Esco & many fans would get a charge if he returned to the Twins. As long as the fans like him and respect him. And the Twins would be saving money overall if they trade Kepler. So there would be some upside. I think that it would be a good idea to sign Esco if the Twins are going to trade Kepler anyway. A switch hitter with power is beneficial and could mesh well with Polanco.
