Hold on. Let us judge Gardenhire objectively. The team is playing great....well really good defense and Gardy doesn't seem to be playing favorites NEARLY as much. I would say this is one of if not Gardy's best season. All that being said I still cannot stand his bullpen management or the over-all philosophies he and his staff bring to the team. I would like to see change. Objectively speaking though he's doing a better job this season than he ever did previous IMO.
I don't think now is the time to relieve Plouffe of his 3B duties. This team needs more offense from Parmalee, Morneau, Mauer, Doumit, Willingham, Plouffe ect ect. but the defense has been a surprising strong point of this squad. Moving people around now wouldn't be prudent. Not gonna do it.
Cuddyer couldn't play the infield as well as Plouffe. This season Plouffe has looked like a 3B for the first time and I now have hope that he'll continue to improve his D at the hot corner. Trevor Plouffe is going to be an ALL-Star caliber hitter at some point. Hopefully it won't take him leaving the Twins and their "WAY" for his talents to flourish.
WOW .201 average against, .529 OPS against! I've been on the let's be patient Gibson isn't consistent enough team but those numbers tell a different story. I really don't think ANY member of the current rotation could produce that kind of success at the AAA level. Worley, the opening day starter, sure cannot.
[h=3]National League[/h] 1B - Goldschmidt, Paul 2B - Carpenter, Matt SS - Tulowitzki, Troy 3B - Sandoval, Pablo C - Posey, Buster OF - Brown, Domonic OF - Gomez, Carlos OF - Gonzalez, Carlos
The Twins have finally found that decidedly average starting rotation that was promised to be such an improvement over last years horrendous rotation and you all want to start demolishing it before we can see how long this "consistency" can last. Remember the only member of the current rotation that it make sense to jettison for Gibson is Pelfrey. That's not likely to happen unless Pelf is REALLY bad.
I think this actually works in the Twins favor because now he'll have a VERY limited market for his services in FA. Captain cheap-O Will tell us how having the extra money from the new stadium allowed us to retain one of our stars when in fact he'll be retained because it'll be on the cheap.
Perkins should not be traded. I'm not saying he's untouchable but I would think the Twins would want to keep this guy around. I want everyone to keep in mind that it could be a long time before we really see if Perkins can handle closing in a REAL pressure situation. Although I'm a HUGE Perkins fan until he saves some games that mean something I won't consider him an elite closer.
Watching him play is freaking amazing! Athletically he's on his own level. Kind of like the RG3 of baseball. Just unbelievable. If he continues to progress he'll be the best baseball player in the world in about 4-5 years. IMO
I've seen Buxton twice now. He reminds me of a YOUNG barry bonds. The great thing is everything you read leads a person to believe that he isn't narcissistic or hard to be around like bonds is was and always will be. I think the Twins have someone SUPER special in Buxton.
What I'm really wondering before this game is can PJ Walters be this season's Scott Diamond? The Twins need someone that can consistently go deep into games.
Maybe Dozier will be gone and Carroll and Escobar will be platooning at 2B or Plouffe will be benched or Dozier will lead off? Anyway you slice it Plouffe doesn't fit as this batting order is currently constructed and having moderate success. Take your time getting healthy Trevor because if you're not "hitting the fire out of the ball" when you come back you may not have a starting job.
Look Hermann is going to be going back down. Ramirez will probably have a short rehab assignment and Thomas is just the kind of guy you can have on your bench and not worry about him losing AB's. We all remember how epically he failed in his short stint up last season, but honestly he can't hit worse than Hick's did in April. We lived through hick's getting his feet wet and we'll live past a week or two of Thomas being the 5th OF. He'll probably be a pleasant surprise if for no reason other than expectation are SO LOW.
Bert's OK in my book, but I like *******s. Dick is the one that bothers me. They should have one guy who tells it like it is and Bert could be the Homer. A little light banter might make the broadcast more enjoyable.
I have not been a Dozier supporter and I think Mauer should bat 2nd if not 1st, but I really like the way Dozier is swinging right now and I would keep him at the top of the order unless he regresses AGAIN. That's not to say Carroll has to stay batting 1/2. Maybe Dozier leading off with Mauer #2 is the way. Dozier has to keep swinging the bat like he is now for a measurable stretch, then more answers we will have.
He reminds me of a young Matt Williams. He, IMO, is the most for sure prospect in this draft. Which means his odds are 50/50. Drafting in baseball is so tough but there's no doubt that this kid is big, strong, an exceptional athlete and has a good head on his shoulders. If they draft pitching I hope they go after Manea or Ball.
