  1. I disagree. The contract is terrible. It's possible that Doumit could drive in more runs while playing catcher for a 100 games than Mauer could in the same number of games. Doumit would be as good and maybe better throwing out runners and he costs pennies in comparison.
  2. I can't wait to watch a Twins rotation led by Meyer and Berrios. I'm not sure that May will ever have good enough control for the Twins standards and I think he probably ends up a late inning reliever.
  3. Meyer is the #2 or #3 prospect for the Twins.
  4. I can't help but laugh. What is going on in MN? Why does every athlete that MN fans deem important suffer injury? Some sort of hex has been placed on us and the karmic pendulum seems to have forgotten to swing back in our direction. OH PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!
  5. On paper this team looks terrible. How can Gardy real feel confident? I just don't think we can count on guys like Gibson, Harden and Pelfrey. Sure they could hold up but it's a gamble to say the least. Worley and Diamond both had surgery's this off season as well. On the bright side there looks to be a lot of strong candidates for the bullpen.
  6. If there is one thing the 2013 Twins bullpen needs it's a power RHP in the bullpen. Last year for as well as the Twins bullpen did it didn't strike out a ton of hitters. Guys like Burnett and Swarzak would be prime candidates to be replaced by a guy who misses more bats.
  7. This goofy deal with Swarzak opens the door for Gibson to start the season as the mop up guy in the bullpen. He will be able to keep his work load down(we hope) and get in some real low pressure MLB innings before he has to take over in the rotation when the straw men begin to fall. How soon he'll be needed in the rotation will depend on the the health of Rich Harden. Surely by the end of May one of the 2 free agent starters will have failed miserably if not both of them.
  8. When I try to think of the upcoming season from a glass half full type of view I point out to my fellow disheartened Twins fans that Vavra has been replaced by Bruno. Hopefully this will bring out the tremendous talent in youngsters like Parmalee Plouffe and Hicks.
  9. I have absolutely no faith in Gardenhire or his group of flunkies to develop a decent middle infielder. To the best of my recollection it hasn't ever happened under Gardenhires tenure.
  10. The kid is a great athlete. His bat speed is tremendous. I think he'll be a good one. He also could debut at a very young age which is rare with the Twins Org.
  11. I'm excited to watch Gibson. I'm excited to watch Worley. These 2 guys may never be number 1 type starters but they both got what it takes to be very good.
  12. If he doesn't figure out his control early on in his Twins career look for him to be a late inning reliever. He could be the next Joe Nathan.
  13. From what I've seen Diamond is the exception that proves the rule. Meaning that I understand all too well the statistical probability that Diamond will regress, but what I see is a guy who really understands the subtleties of pitching and I look for Diamond to be MN version of Mark Buehrle. Of course he could have a higher ERA but I think he will be a perennial 13+ game winner. Time will tell.
  14. Forget that he calls a terrible game! Mauer should not catch at all anymore. He's terrible at throwing out runners. He calls way too many fastballs away. He's paid a ton and keeping him healthy at any position is more valuable than having to basically eat the last couple years of his contract because he's perennially hurt or under performing offensively. Keeping him at catcher more than half time like last year is a big mistake. Way too much money for way too many years they have to protect that investment.
  15. Plouffe is a low average power hitter. He reminds me of Joe Crede in that way. I have no doubt that he's going to improve offensively this coming season but the guy should not be allowed to play the infield. I think he'll end up in RF like Cuddyer before him. Parmalee will end up at 1st after Morneau is traded mid season. The only way Morneau isn't traded is if the Twins are still in it at the All-Star break. LOL We all know that isn't going to be the case. Pelfrey and Correia do not make this rotation better but they make it older and worse. Both are right handed sinker ballers. Shall we revisit Rick Anderson track record with right handed sinker ball pitchers? I won't because you already know that they will be worse than they've ever been in their respective careers. Vavra and Anderson need to go like 5 years ago!
  16. I have to think Justin would be the guy to hit 3rd because you want someone in the 3 hole who can hit for average and power. Willingham is a photo-typical #4. The lineup I want to see goes like this. Hicks Mauer Morneau Willingham Doumit Parmalee Plouffe Dozier Florimon Especially if you're going to lead off with a rookie you want Mauer and Morneau immediately behind him so he see plenty of fastballs.
  17. I think Gibson starts the season in the BP. I think that's the best way for Kyle to get his feet wet slowly while truly limiting his innings for the first 6 weeks of the season. I think they want him working with Andy and Bobby from day 1. My money is on Duensing starting the season in the rotation and going to the BP when Gibson enters the rotation. Remember the Twins told Duensing and Swarzak to prepare as if they were going to be starters in the coming season. The Twins bounce Duensing from the rotation to the BP or vice a versa every season why would this year be any different?
  18. Absolutely wonderful. I can't get enough coverage about the Plethora of young talent in the Twins org and their assent to the majors. You gotta give credit where it's do and the Twins farm system looks 10x better now than it did just 2 years ago. These next 4 or 5 years has the Twins set to churn out a lot of highly talented players. I'm just not sure Gardy is the guy to get the most out of the coming youth movement. Barring some miraculous season out of the current mess of a Twins roster I havta believe this is his last hurrah as skipper of the Minnesota Twins.
  19. When he reached 2000 hits he was the fastest ever to reach that milestone. Not sure if that has been eclipsed by someone since then but in my book of players I've watched in my lifetime Kirby is still top 5. There's not too many guys that could deliver championships to MN as we all painfully understand. Obviously he didn't do it alone but they couldn't have done it without him. RIP Kirby.
  20. How do you make a 6 man rotation out of 2 1/2 starting pitchers? Worley and Diamond are the 2 and Gibson the half. So far this off season we've heard that the Twins were going to go hard at starting pitchers. Then Deduno was taken off the MLB roster and I said then that makes sense because the Twins CLAIM that they are going to add 3 MLB pitchers better than Deduno. Well to make a long explanation short I just don't see how Pelfrey in his first year after TJ surgery or Correia are better than Deduno or DeVries for that matter. I'm hoping the Twins still take a flyer on Brandon Webb.
