  1. McCann and salty are having such great season that they are blocking such a fine catcher having an outlier season while stuck in the minors. .It is the instant ex Twin as suddenly a great player potential for Hicks that should be placing him in the major league in three years Those 3 years, and 4 organizations will pass so quickly for some. So fast it would be leaving the fanbase here to bemoan what coulda been if the Twins FO only had a brain ( a heart, for courage, and a nerve, too) or a least a wizard manipulating things
  2. The prospects returned in the Gio Gonzales deal were not highly ranked at the time of the trade. You never know what Beane will do.AB Walker, one year in their system and he could replace the departing Butler. Mostly I posted that proposition because of your comment on the trading of AA pitching. Heresy to garbage. 2 b prospects a c+prospect is garbage. 2 unranked prospects are garbage, yet the turmoil over Hu was rampant.. A clever trader and the board would have ammo for how stupid the Twins are
  3. Stewart, AB Walker, Ryan Eades and a couple of the lower level players drafted in the double digits that they want to take a flier on for 3 years of Sonny Gray. 2 preseason top 10 in the organization prospects a top 20, a couple of lottery tickets Add Burdi and another player for Manaea
  4. Proof of no value please. Midseason grade says you are half wrong. In combination Walker would bring something. 8) Adam Brett Walker, OF, Grade B-/C+: Hitting .235/.308/.463 with 16 homers, 31 walks, 130 strikeouts in 285 at-bats (not a typo); still shows 70-grade power with some walks but a frighteningly high strikeout rate.
  5. The Twins were criticized here for letting go of a late blooming RA Dickey. Jose Bautista started hitting late and defies the ageing curve, Joe Nathan did not start pitching until a late age, Randy Johnson was mediocre for a long time. With many of these players, whatever their ceiling remains despite what the experts say. Sometimes it takes longer for a player. The guy who is 26 and former prospect always had a good eye for the strike zone considering his BB%. A talent you can build from. So far it has worked. The initial urgency probably can't be maintained, but sensing a last chance can be a helpful thing. Dozier did not become good until he was the 26. Had he not worked out then, he might have had to start a coaching career. Maybe sensing the last chance kicks something into working.
  6. IFA signed and developed and still playing for the same team. Soler, Contereras and Conception are the only three IFAs signed and developed by the Cubs. Diaz and Oh for the Cardinals. None for the Moneyball A's, Romero and Colombe for the Rays. The league may be 24% foreign born players but that doesn't mean many stay with the same team. To say the Twins are bad at developing IFA is simply not founded.
  7. Arrietta was never considered not to have front line starter pitcher. Failed, hardly . I would not disagree that the team needs better pitching coaches. If anything changes over the winter it will be the pitching coaches. A few more failed young hitters and the hitting coaches in the system may change along with the pitching coaches.
  8. Any system is loaded with C prospects. There is no need to give them a c prospect to hope to get a b prospect. The trick is to find the mislabeled prospects. Almost all of those top 100 prospects from the Mets worked out rather poorly. those were all b or better prospects . Getting B prospects, top 100, really doesn't mean so much. Better to go gem shopping for a diamond in the rough and trust whatever version of moneyball is played.
  9. Miller is centuries younger than Nolasco and Santana. . With 2 very good years and one sophomore slump Miller is worth more than Nolasco and Santana.
  10. Wrong. Look what Baltimore gave up for Feldman.
  11. As Chief has said, it is only money. The owners have a lot of it so no bfd. about salary relief.
  12. A broken down Willingham had a better woba than Arcia in 2013 and 2014 As did many other players. WRC, behind essentially the same group, as well as many other measures. About the only thing that Arcia shined in is ISO. Of course, if you do not have a great ability to hit anything besides a HR, you will have a great ISO, and a lousy babip. Blaming a low babib for Arcia's woes is like blaming Worley's demise on his bad luck with a high babip
  13. Bud Norris brought back 2 prospects that were not in the top 30 of Dodger prospects So does the Twins system need another CK Irby and Luke Bard? That is what you might get for Santana, maybe one of those for Nolasco. Of course Feldman did bring back a decent prospect. As did Hammel
  14. How uncharacteristically optimistic of you. Coming of an injury and making mechanical adjustments you expect things to go near perfectly for May and the Twins. Optimistic about the Twins and it is not April 1.
  15. There is no reason to think that Hughes will not be ready for spring training. It is not like Perkins' procedure. May to the rotation would not happen until next year. The season would be done by the time he got up to innings. Santana or Nolasco would be not the first choice for a team looking for a starter. Ones and Twos get expensive. Read somewhere the asking price was usually high enough to discourage trading. Twins asking price? Good question. Depends on how bad somebody wants to buy. Dylan Bundy for one if Baltimore comes calling?
  16. You must not have understood my comment. He had a bad year So you say a one year contract to rebuild value. He had that, it was called a QO. He didn't take it. There is no certainty you can trade him if he played like the year before, the draft pick will not be as good as the year before and leaves you less pol money. You leave the organization worse. Trade. See last year's shortstop trades for the "quality" that was returned for the far superior SS than Desmond. Try and think through a little more and see what has actually happened without the benefit of time to question a move. After the fact this is a great move ideas. Real easy when you have the information. Faulty roster construction. You want Escobar, Nunez, Santana and a 4th SS and you say the GM is bad.
  17. If I say to the person that they should not ever complain about losing if they trade away 1/4 of the 40 man I don't think I am supporting the idea. Unless somebody believes a Twin's pitcher will do remarkably better for them than the Twins or Ryan gets blown away by an offer for Suzuki or Dozier I kind of doubt you will see much trade action this month. Like it or not, Suzuki may get the AB to get the automatic cheap contract for next year. Not much alternative out there.
  18. Adam Brett Walker is in his 5th minor league season. He can't be a 6 year minor league free agent until he has played 6 years or is released. Given that he has stalled this year he is lucky to have one more year to prove himself. Palka has had a good half year in AA. It is his first half year of AA. Chis Parmelee's and Aaron Hick's career says hello. All the complaints about rushing and ruining careers gets lost until it is needed. Todd Frazier netted Cinci 3 a light hitting outfielder with potential, a utility player and a prospect . Plouffe could have been traded for one or two proven relief pitchers . Ok. The definition of proven considering how little Cinci took back and maybe Frazier has done a lot more than Plouffe should be interesting. Miller and Chapman from the Yankees? More like Diaz and Hoover. Maybe They could include a 25 year old reliever in class A with upside. Desmond's defense. Tulo has been better as well as 13-14 other SS's defense. I would say steady defense would be steadily average at best. Of course eye tests are better than metrics. Desmond turned down a 7/100 million+ contract with the Nationals, and a 15 mill QO. What is not said is any reason why Desmond would have come here. Clearly it wasn't money driving him or he would have signed the big contract. An offer better than the Rangers should do it. Hardly, the better offers from the Nationals didn't do it. Demonstrably better roster? A guy who was a 2 WAR player in a two year decline does not make the club better. Marginally better than the incumbent. HS outfielders in the middle of the first round. Do you have a Trout, a Span, or a Golson? A 2 million dollar crapshoot. Higher reward, higher ceiling than a 30 hear old shortstop over the same time period. Unless it is a long term contract, you shouldn't be discarding your first round draft pick. If the player isn't worth signing for longer, why are you bothering?
  19. Was his value high? As he would have been the 13-14th best DH statistically that year, how high of value is that? As an outfielder, not even close to league average for anything. All he had at that point was potential. Do you know of any offers the Twins made? or were made to the Twins? Conversations that did or did not happen? You don't know if Ryan tried to move him or not. As Ryan trades so many young prospects, Arcia entering the discussion would raise a red flag to even the most brain dead GM. He could be a 30HR guy, he could go bust. Potential had a long ways to go. SSS, but he is doing well in Tampa. Well, 4 strikeouts in 25 PA, you think maybe a different team telling him the same thing made it finally sink in to have plate discipline? Find out at the end of the season. Rotting on the bench, I see you must have missed following about half the Twins games as you appear not to notice how he played.
  20. This is a good reason to come to TD. When you suggest to have a 25 man roster of AAA players it should take away your right to ever complain of losing or the management of the Twins being idiots
  21. And he has not hit well in streaks when given playing time. That information is not well documented in these threads but easy to find. Then there was the 5 steps to the right or left defense he was able to play. Good defense only matters to the critics when they want to criticize. Arcia's UZR150 makes Hunter's defense last year look a lot better
  22. There are a few thousand posts on this site from people who are not baseball people. They say how to run the Twins. I doubt if actual baseball knowledge from being at the professional level is necessary as all of these people have opinions that they are absolutely certain of their absolute correctness and brilliance.
  23. Semantics. Sorry, I thought you were referring to the bullpen pitchers not the entire pitching staff. Normally starters are not lumped in with the relievers.
  24. Ah the hyperbole. Is it a 13 man bullpen because so many have rotated through you forgot the 5 who left or on the disabled list? Like Aaron Hicks unreplicated hot month, what has Arcia done the last two years to warrant being kept on the roster as a fifth outfielder?
  25. Come back in a year or two to gloat on this one. I do love the claims of 30 HR power when he hasn't hit more than 15 hr only twice in the 8 years he has been in baseball. He will hit 30 hr because so many other people can? Is it like the power Mauer was supposed to continue to have after he hit 28 on year? Maybe Oswaldo really has Mauer power. Doubles until they defense for it
