  1. I could have had a lot of respect if the reply would have been Buxton's September was an anomaly and he has not turned the corner in being a top OPS player.
  2. The team scores 7 runs and people here complain. Wow. Statics would say you put your highest obp at the top of the order, which they did. Somewhere the brilliant forgets that in the game there are days you are a failure, days you are not. . The game of baseball is a game of trends that are not to be judged by one game.
  3. A list of the prospects in AA and AAA that have not yet appeared in the majors. As about 8 of them are not on the 40 man roster something would have to be going horribly wrong or amazingly right for them to get on the 40 man. Injuries and severe underperformance are the wrongs, trades for lower level, high upside prospects are the amazingly right. .
  4. Is about 90 players or so league wide most players?
  5. Spring phenoms fool people. Veterans doing badly is called experimenting
  6. When you see the makeup of the AAA and AA pitching staffs, you will have an idea of when you might see a pitcher. Tepesch or Wimmers are the early season disaster happened relievers. Berrios and the loser of the 5th starter battle will be Reed and Chargois by May to replace the dregs. Plenty in AA that need to move forward It shall be interesting to see if there are any philosophical changes (hint, more aggressive) in mid season advancement of prospects.
  7. Kirbydome on a post on another thread commented on failed starters as relievers. I am aware of Ryan's past.
  8. I guess Ryan Pressly will be the next Twin failed starter turned dominant reliever
  9. You would have a valid point except the MLB hitters were getting to him first time through the rotation, not the 2/3 time through. Perkins improved his fb velocity being a reliever . I can't recall any starter who had a plus plus fastball and slider but had control problems really succeeding as a reliever. The struggling starter becomes a better pitcher as a reliever because they end up with an above average fb rather than a below average one.
  10. What would make him a failed starter would make him fail as a reliever. If he can't locate his pitches as a starter, he won't locate any better as a reliever. If the 100 mph fastball is hittable because he throws it over the plate, 102 mph will suffer the same fate. Meyer is a case where a failed starter would equal a failed reliever.
  11. If he can't make it as a starter the same issue would follow him to the bullpen and hence the same results
  12. Santiago regresses to his career average for ERA. Hughes is no longer injured, Dufrey reverts closer to his 2015 form, That takes care of most of your issues as you ignore the simple fact and the lion's share of IP that contributed to the problem, Nolasco, Albers, Millone, Dean, and Meyer, are no longer with the team.
  13. The word could is not the same as would. Meyer might not beat out Bud Norris . So far this spring he is not missing as many bats when he actually gets the ball over the plate. That he could be better than Santiago at this point is more wishful thinking based on what is becoming mythical upside Slegers or Wheeler at this time would appear more likely to be an asset than Meyer.
  14. Many a great college pitcher had a year in the bullpen before starting for a year or two. So why should it become a big deal that the change happens after their third year of college.
  15. 10 years? First two years were minimal exposure to big leagues, 2011 and 17 were injury years. It has been argued by some smart people that 2015 Hughes could have been affected by TOS. In the six full seasons that he has played, four of them he has put up good WAR numbers. In the last 7 years he had an ERA of 4.24. FIP of 4.04. It all depends on what cherries you want to pick. Unfortunately, I still have yet to see even cherry picked numbers that say going from starting to relieving blows out arms and interferes with development. In the end Mays had some bad luck with the arm. Fraying of UCL in the past has been an overuse for that person phenomenon. There has been enough for traits to emerge. If it is as some say an overuse injury, then pitching less innings will not cause the injury. If the cause is because of increased rotation of the forearm, again bullpen time does not cause the injury.
  16. Sale pitched a year and a half in the bullpen. No weirder than your non statistical analysis that it hurts pitchers going from starter to bullpen. Considering that Hughes has had 4 seasons where he has pitched to a 2.4 WAR or better and those 4 years he would be a top 50 pitcher I can only assume that by your definition then there are almost no good pitchers out there. Since there are almost no good pitchers out there by your definition it really doesn't matter if they are bounced from the rotation to the bullpen, they are all going to be poor to mediocre pitchers anyways. .
  17. Cris Sale, John Schmoltz, , Samardzija, Hughes, Lance Lynn all say hello
  18. There would be a relationship between launch angle, backspin, exit velocity, and the spot on the ball contact is made
  19. You know, I would really love to say something intelligent about this subject, but my physics classes were long ago. http://baseball.physics.illinois.edu/AJP-Nov03.pdf If somebody could translate, it would be appreciated
  20. Polanco's shortcomings and short has nothing to do with him not playing short in AAA. It is not like he never played the position. It is not like it is so complex he would forget. The only bungle may be that they did not trade him before other teams figured out he is not a top shortstop.
  21. No I am not comparing them to anything. It is a simple declarative statement without any reason for the opinion. The reason could have nothing to do with my opinion of their relative talents but other factors. Saying that players will be claimed if designated for assignment means nothing more than that. It does not mean I think they should be, or should not have been DFA. Simply a statement that players would be claimed
  22. Dozier is the only player to start over 150 games for the last three years. Sano will not play 3b every game, like it or not.
  23. That is funny. What an alternative truth. The Twins starting rotation might be Hughes, May, Gibson and Santiago. By your logic, I just compared them. Funny logic.
  24. Depends on DH. If it is rotating between Vargas, Mauer Dozier, Polanco and Sano/ Vargas plays against lefthanders , That leaves about 3/4 of the games for Polamco
  25. Light will be claimed. . Chargois would be claimed. Any Twin on the 40 man not named Danny Santana will be claimed when designated for assignment That statement does not compare the 2 pitchers. Light being traded for cash means the brain wizards in Pittsburg thought he would be claimed by a team that finished worse than they did. There is no marginal to be claimed.
