  1. This is like a Nelson Cruz reunion, too many younger players need those at-bats.
  2. The logjam of middle infielders could be a hindrance to his advancement and could open the door for a trade of someone from that prospect list. I thought the Red Sox were nuts for moving Kike Hernandez from 2nd to CF and that's actually turned out good for them, the Chisholm move could follow that example and depending on if the Marlins end up singing Gurriel, we could see Arraez more at 1st or DH if Jazz can't play CF.
  3. I will eat crow if that happens, and he doesn't hit .300 again.
  4. Salas in AA by the end of 2023 would be a reasonable goal. I live 2.5 hours from Wichita so that would be a fun "scouting trip" to make.
  5. Okay, probably 3 years for Salas and 4 for Chourio. Better? It would be great if he has a Jose Miranda level rise through the minors. If in 5 years this trade becomes a franchise turning point for the Twins like some of their trades from previous generations that led to sustained periods of winning I will happily eat crow.
  6. I respectfully disagree. Considering the change with the shift, I think Arraez value will be even higher next year with his ability to hit the ball where he wants. Lopez has a history of injuries and fell apart down the stretch. Ultimately only time will tell, but after 2023 we will probably have an idea of who won this trade.
  7. He's 19 years old in High A right now, I'll be shocked if he is on a Major League roster before 2025. Subscribe to Patreon and listen to the "Gleeman and the Geek" podcast episode from Friday, they go over the possible ETA of the prospects from this trade making the majors. Best $1 you will spend all week.
  8. They filled a great need for another #3 starter when they have an entire rotation full? I think this could easily go down as the worst trade this FO makes. Trading an All-Star, Silver Slugger, and Batting Champion who is the best contact hitter with the lowest K rate in baseball for an average starting pitcher and 2 prospects who are at least 4 years away is another fleece job. At the end of the day, Miami is a better team, the Twins really aren't. They're still the #3 team in the AL Central.
  9. https://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/9/28/16377142/1-2-3-4-5-starters-what-does-that-mean
  10. I would take the White Sox with Dylan Cease (Cy Young runner-up) as their Ace over the Twins as well. Giolito has been pretty reliable averaging over 30 starts a season for the last few years although he had an ERA over 4 last year, they also have Lance Lynn, Clevinger and Kopech who all have career ERA under 4. But as I said before, injuries are always something you can't predict.
  11. Sano needs a new environment, I wish him the best but his best should be on another team.
  12. Having a rotation of #3 starters when other teams in the division have #1 and #2 starters along with #3 starters will make it hard to see the postseason. But with injuries, who knows.
  13. Subscribe to Patreon, and listen to yesterday's Gleeman and the Geek podcast. Best $1 you'll spend all week.
  14. He may not have been, but there were other pieces that could have been added to try to land an ace. And the prospects the Twins landed are just prospects. Most of my Marlins fan friends think the Twins got fleeced and I absolutely agree with them.
  15. They're giving up too much in my opinion. They Basically traded a batting champion for a level of pitching quality they already have. So now the Twins have 10 starting pitchers that are all #3 to #5 starters. That's my point. They gave up their leadoff hitter and batting champion for another Sonny Gray. And I might add, another pitcher with a history of injuries. I can't understand how casual fans think this is a good trade. Most of my Marlins fan friends on Facebook think the Twins got fleeced.
  16. Pitchers are way better and throw a lot harder in today's game than in Carew's day so the comparison isn't apples to apples. They are both contact slap hitters with little power who are almost the same build who started as 2nd baseman then moved to first. Arraez is the closest thing to Carew the majors has. There was literally an article on this website with the comparison from last summer:
  17. They overvalued Lopez. He is the typical middle of the rotation starter, not an Ace. He isn't Johan Santana or Sandy Alcantara. He isn't a Cy Young level guy. That's the part that annoys me the most. He is another Sonny Gray.
  18. The bright side is, maybe if this season is a flop, they'll chase the FO out of town with pitch forks while wearing Arraez jerseys.
  19. Except I was waiting for the prices on the new stuff to go down before I did. I planned to buy one after last season but once I heard about the rebrand I decided to hold off. Now I am glad I did.
  20. Do you remember Rod Carew by any chance? That worked our pretty well for the Twins.
  21. Rogers was garbage for the Twins, I think had the Twins kept him, they would have had similar bullpen meltdowns as they experienced with Duffey and Pagan. My issue with this trade is Lopez is not an Ace. He is another #3 starter. If your team is full of #3 starters, you're probably not gonna see the postseason. He is better than Bundy and Archer yes, but I don't think he was worth dealing the reigning batting champ for.
  22. I feel the exact way. This front office hasn't been very good at making trades for pitchers so I have this sinking feeling it will be another fleece job.
  23. From everything I've seen Lopez is another #3 level starter. He isn't Alcantara or an ace. Prospects are prospects and equal no guarantee of any success. I disagree that the Twins come away better from this trade, but only time will tell.
  24. Yep this is a loss. An average pitcher for the batting champion and fan favorite. At least I didn't get an Arraez jersey yet. Oh well.
  25. I hope he starts the season in Wichita so I can go see him play in May.
