  1. If things play out similarly next year, it'll be Jepsen.
  2. What a funny conversation to have when you think back to the beginning of the season when it was hardly a consensus that Nunez was among the 25 best Twins players on the 40-man.
  3. The reason I'm on here every day is because a lot of pretty decent dialogue does in fact take place here. Over the course of time, I've changed my own view of things as a result of fair-minded, intelligent discussion. And that's quite an accomplishment on the part of those I've disagreed with! When we encounter a point of view that is not balanced, we do the board a favor to point that out in my opinion. Even if we risk a tiny bit of temporary friction.
  4. Right. No one ever faults anyone but the player. Players are never "jerked around". GM's are never blamed for screwing with a player's psyche. Who ever questions the player development staff when a player fails? The infamous Ortiz story is a myth apparently.
  5. I don't think you're making a valid assessment. I wouldn't be so quick to categorize your pals here in such black and white terms. You run the risk of unfairly labeling people as undiscerning apologists when the reality is simply that they hold a view different than your own. It's a very small minority on this board who completely trust Ryan's judgement. In other words, very few people on here do. There is a larger minority on this board who have not completely "lost faith" in his ability as a GM. I'm part of this larger minority, and yet, just like I felt about Gardy, I can get behind the idea of a change. However, just like in the case of Gardy's replacement, I think there's a real good chance Ryan's replacement won't be the cure-all some people expect, even if the replacement is a person with a solid reputation within the blogging sphere.
  6. As a Subaru-driving tree-hugger and birder (redundant, I know), I can tell you that, according to one study, the mortar hat eating is a helluva a lot bigger problem for birds than them running into a couple tall buildings, wind turbines, and stadiums in the middle of the night. But they're equally stupid things to do.
  7. The players are required to fish those balls out of the pond after they get back from Taco Bell each night. They rent the scuba gear to them at a discount. I believe $7, with a ten cent rebate per unscuffed ball.
  8. Kind of an aside, but I've often wondered if guys who are more active on social media, like Jake Reed, are giving us some very minor indication that they could stand being a bit more focused. I doubt there's a connection, but... I wonder too if Reed isn't nursing a low-grade physical issue. Maybe Seth can ask Dougie Baseball.
  9. Brian, so your son got over 4.0 on a scale that stops at 4.0? Now we know where sabermetrics come from. Not to mention the fact that he lives with his mother.
  10. I have two gripes about St. Peter, and they're both major. The first is that he suffers from the same cursed obliviousness, or maybe ambivalence, regarding the importance and value of good PR. And more to the record, the enormous damage that is done by bad or nonexistent PR. The second gripe is that he inserts himself into conversations about the baseball side of the business, and when he does, he invariably sounds so foolish. Bring back young Andrew MacPhail.
  11. I missed that piece, although I might give it even less credence than I give Reusse's take on Sano frankly.
  12. Yes, we're hearing more and more speculation about the clubhouse environment, which is to be expected. So far, however, I can't cite a single circumstance where someone with real information and access has talked specifically about this. No beat writer has insinuated that a certain player or players are toxic, or that the team is playing too tight or too loose, etc. The third-party reference here to the Buxton comments is really the first inkling of anything for me, and this is pretty specious evidence of a problem. And yet, I find myself wondering if Molitor, Allen, Brunansky et al aren't struggling with managing the clubhouse, and with getting the best out of the players. The problem with speculation on TD is that the more there is, the more likely that speculation becomes "fact", evidence notwithstanding.
  13. Man alive. I just sped-read the last three dozen posts and thought I'd opened some really bad erotic "literature"
  14. C'mon, people, it's Reusse. What makes the concept of writing with tongue in cheek so elusive here?
  15. Funny you should bring this up. True story, Whoopee John Wilfahrt was my very first concert. Second trimester of my life, according to my mother. This was always a troubling piece of information for me during my childhood.
  16. Trust me, you two came real close one time.
  17. There is not an ounce of truth to anything you said.
  18. The small sample size is what you and others have been looking at, not me. It includes a number of starts, some mediocre, some good, at least one bad, but that hasn't stopped people from declaring that he is overdue for promotion based on a few overall stats. Sorry about being so unclear that you failed to grasp my point.
  19. Perhaps it's not such a no-brainer that Gonsalves should have been advanced to AA by now.
  20. Just checked in. The Twins are in the blue uniforms right?
