  1. Just think where the Twins would be if he had accepted the offer to play in Korea. Also, is he officially a rookie?
  2. If so, that tweet did not represent what had gone on for at least a year. Numbers don't lie. You don't lead the league in strikeouts three years in a row and have no chance at the majors.
  3. Credentials can work both ways. If he thinks he can look at a guy in a side piece and determine that he'll never make it, he's way overconfident.

  5. Yep, claim the Jay's cast-off center fielder and give him the remaining 40-man roster spot. Then do like the Blue Jays do, DFA him and hope he clears. He's likely to be better than Mastro.
  6. Between the Pelfrey signing and the Bartlett fiasco (in which we lost all depth in CF), my confidence in Antony is trending towards 0.
  7. Pelfrey for two years was a head scratcher. He didn't have many one-year offers after last year. When they interviewed Antony, he said they didn't want to just have him for his bad year after Tommy John. They wanted to reap the benefits of the second year after Tommy John. That's one of the best examples of the sunk cost fallacy I've ever heard expressed. At this point, my hope is he could make a decent reliever. Swap him out with Deduno and see if he gets his velocity back. If he doesn't, cut your losses.
  8. One other thought, is it legal to DFA a guy on the DL? I thought there was some rule against it.
  9. It is a fair point. It is telling that they didn't think enough of Mastro to keep him for the $500K it would have cost to guarantee Bartlett's salary. As far as center fielders in Rochester, I'm surprised they haven't called up Danny Ortiz. He's repeating New Britain and had a very good spring. Meanwhile, the Red Wings are playing Eric Ferris, who is a career infielder, in CF.
  10. I just found it interesting that your argument about May being not much of a prospect was almost an exact quote of something K-Law tweeted a couple of months ago. Perhaps it's a coincidence. But you have to ignore some gaudy strike-out numbers and you can't have watched him pitch for any length of time to have K-Law's perspective. Not even mentioning his best pitch is a dead give-away.
  11. The retirement documents were not cleared through the league office before the Twins were awarded Fuld, so they had to make a roster move. They chose Mastro. Mastro is not the same guy he was two years ago. He was a marginal player to begin with, but playing on a broken leg did permanent damage to his speed and agility. Plus, he never recovered his swing after the long lay-off. He was a guy who needed lots of cage time and winter ball to be able to put up a 600+ OPS. Not being able to hit for five months was an unrecoverable issue for him. The real issue was letting Presley go to make room for Bartlett. They should have known in spring training that Bartlett was done. Just about everybody who watched him play saw a guy who could barely put the bat on the ball and who was trying to play six positions he'd never played in his career. It was ugly.
  12. This is what bugs me about these so-called analysts like K-Law. They watch a guy throw on the side and they think they know everything about the guy. K-Law visited the Twins spring training complex and saw May warming up and struggling to throw his fastball where he wanted. Based on 10 minutes of warm-ups, he tweets "I don't know if May will every be a major league pitcher. He only has two viable pitches--the straight fastball and a breaking ball--and only one of them is potential major league pitch." He didn't even watch him in one game, nor did he look at the numbers or scouting reports. Now every guy who has read K-Law thinks he's an expert on Trevor May.
  13. His best pitch is the change-up that fools a lot of guys, more than a guy per inning, most of them swinging. True, his breaking pitch is nothing special, but he throws it less than 5% of the time.
  14. I worry that Pelfrey has shoulder problems. One of the reasons you don't rush guys back from elbow issues is favoring the elbow puts enormous strain on the shoulder. Pelfrey is a horse, so he could probably throw the ball as hard as he wants, but it can't be good for his shoulder to do that repeatedly.
  15. I'm with you on this. There was a time when excessive shifts were considered douchery. Beating them certainly should not be considered douchery. But the Gomez bat flips should result in a brush back. I thought the Indians were throwing at our guys (when they broke Willingham's wrist). I was disappointed we didn't respond in some way.
  16. It was the last extra inning game against Oakland. The Twins were down by three runs with two outs. They needed base runners. If I recall correctly, Dozier ran on the 2-0 pitch. They gave him one more strike on the outside edge and the other pitches were well off the plate. Anybody who criticizes that at bat doesn't understand the game.
  17. I am worried about the strikeouts. I'm worried that he's not as mentally fresh as he was before the concussion. I don't think he should try to do anything different. But maybe he's lost something since the concussion.
  18. Need outfield defense, so good move. Antony said he'll platoon with Hicks. So more than a fourth outfielder. Mastro isn't the same guy he was in 2012. He'll clear and go back to Rochester.
  19. Why did they send Colabello again?
  20. Mastro is out of options, so they have to DFA him to ultimately assign him to Rochester. He's unlikely to be claimed.
  21. You seem to be arguing that Mastro should be the 25th man, and I concur. As to your "year of Clete" comment, I think I get it. We suffered through six weeks of Clete because Hicks was sent down and Mastro was hurt. Given that, it was unbelievable that they dumped Presley. But it is what it is. Unless they sign Fuld or someone, they're in much the same position this year. I think they're less likely to have both center fielders go down. But it is possible.
  22. I don't think Pinto will get that many DH opportunities when Colabello and Kubel are sharing the DH role.
  23. Yeah, but he's always calling for the bunt. I lost track of the times he's called for a bunt with a slugger hitting and more than one out in an inning.
