  1. I think the Twins are doing an anti-smoking PSA. "I quit', "I quit", "I quit, too", ... .
  2. I infer from the Thread author that tonight will be like hearing The 1812 Overture--Hmm?
  3. Considering that's almost exactly what happened for '07 (less the injured players--who were stars!), I am inclined to agree with you. Hunter, Pelfrey, the Eduardos, and the rest of the gang will be extended to "lace 'em up in '16!"--Plus, Nolasco returns!
  4. The players threw in the towel--or did you miss the previous homestand? In fact every year from '11 on has indicated a team that was "below par" at/ 1 week after the ALG--and then implodes--just like this team. The players are breathing fire starting the season then when reality of the Front Office hits them in the eye, they pack it in. 2015 won't be any different. If the FO indifference continues, players will focus solely on individual statistics that will "pay them off handsomely--like HRs. Then this team will be losers for years.
  5. OK. That attitude is what permits the team to put a competitive but not great team on the field--"and call it macaroni". I recall from the first few seasons of the Twins my dad saying "fifth place (or fourth, or third), that is a good season..." like we should be happy with fifth, fourth or third out of ten. Only the pennant winner gets to the WS, thought I, yet why should I be pleased with ...less? The public built the MET for (actually the Giants) for a MLB team, though I didn't know that then. So I figured "their money, so what?". But wait, with a virtual gun at our head ["stand and deliver"], "build us (another) stadium or else". We as the public are more than mere fans (sheep to be sheared) we have cold, hard cash into this enterprise--we earned more than a wave of the hands, and a verbal dismal (basically a "not yet"). So yes, I take strong exception to what is going on at the top.
  6. "... the season isn't over...". True there are two more months of baseball to play--but this team has run-up the "I Quit Flag". Scoring is minimal. Singles? Admitted they used to be a team that basically only hit singles--now they rarely get them. Walks? Outside of Sano, who is often "pitched around", they are virtually non-existent. It seems as if everyone is swinging for the fences on every PA (except when ordered to bunt ). Folks it isn't just the bullpen, the hitters too! Curiously, not the starting pitchers--they are "battlin' their tails off" (to steal a phase)--but if they phone it in disaster.
  7. I figure it's 50/50 that Pelfrey is re-signed by the Twins. I also believe that May will be moved to the bullpen for '16 and beyond. May can complain, but he has negligible leverage. I think Nolasco will be better than most think so now. He has ditched "the cutter" and returned to a curveball and will have a much better OF than he had before his injury. Ace? Of course NOT! But a lot like what he was before becoming a Twin. Berrios will spend more time in the minors to "extend team control" as well as get more "seasoning".
  8. No! The mistake was not accepting that '06 was no longer, that the Twins were a mid-market team, and were owned by Carl Pohlad. Johan Santana and Hunter (after his '07 option was exercised) should have been traded before the '07 season started--and procured the ransom that is normally reaped (back then) by trading top players.
  9. Jepsen's "performance" left much to be desired, but if your team can only muster 1 run on 3 hits in 9 innings--your team is in deep "trouble".
  10. Maybe Kevin Jepsen gets a chance to redeem himself today? Though heaven help him if he gets his butt kicked. The wrath from TD will be unbearable.
  11. You missed my point. These guys should not be considered Untouchable--maybe expensive, but no more. The vice-grip on prospects make things even more difficult to rebuild--not less difficult.
  12. I disagree on several points: 1) I think that "the moneyed fans" complained long and loud enough to convince the "Executive Committee" to improve the team immediately or they would "spend less". Money spoke, Pohlad heard, and the budget was increased with a directive to "start fixing problems--NOW". 2) part of the "justification" for the new stadium was to put a better team on the field--which would require more revenue. The revenue came--but the payroll was slashed. The Twins certainly could (and have made improvements) to the team with free agent contracts--as they should! 3) I consider these mid-term contracts (3-4 years). Those are provided to keep the player (his and the teams security)--not to flip like renovated houses.
  13. IIRC, Tampa Bay's stadium is in St. Petersburg--so I'm choosing that one. Seems like it is surrounded by water.
  14. "...rearranging the deck chairs..." significance to this season. Though it sends a loud message to some would-be SSs.
  15. I know that. Please consider all of the posts concerning said trade.
  16. Oh, you have forgotten: Arcia, Pinto, Vargas, D. Santana, Polonco, any Catcher. Until June Hicks too--and yet he may return to that group. Buxton is (for now) in the Can't hit group, Sano--the Can't field group. I'm not writing them all off completely, but 5 tools? No way. I don't give anybody away but no one is untradable--just expensive.
  17. Escobar at SS is giving up. One less bench player? On most teams that would be a problem--but since Molitor doesn't pinch-hit or platoon--it won't matter. I'm curious about this "farm system". Oh so many rave about the Twins "prospects"--but what I see is: Can't Hit, or Can't catch, or Can't throw, or Can't run. One (or worse more!) of those attributes. I'm sorry, please explain to me why all of these guys are too precious to trade?
  18. You are wildly optimistic--this isn't May anymore. Game 2 vs Sea has been lost. I think the next two are split 1-1. Toronto is normally a butt-kickin'--even when the Twins have a "better team"--1-3. At Cleveland, these games will be tough! CLE has good starters (not much else) but by then the Twins won't "have the WC" anymore and a funk may begin series divides 2-1 and I think it will go 1W and 2L (on the road you know, twins aren't road warriors. The six game homestand Twins at best 4-2, but 3-3 is quite likely. 7-9 is probable and far worse is more likely than far better.
  19. Theilbar?--sorry I should have used this:
  20. Ryan said he would Ramos for Capps again? Did Ryan make the Ramos for Capps trade?--and not Bill Smith? Did Ryan make the other trade (Tampa Bay--Garza,Bartlett for Young also? Hmm.
  21. Theilbar?? Isn't anyone concerned he will be claimed?
  22. I'm very confident that someone appropriate can be found to DFA.
  23. OK, Jepsen isn't all that. But he is an experienced ML RP opposed to the two lottery tickets exchanged. Considering the success of the Twins in drafting/developing pitchers I am confident that neither Hu or Tapia would have amounted to much--though TB may correct that! Face it the Twins needed some bullpen help (probably more than this) but people (me too!) can't complain about doing nothing and then watching a minot transaction happen--and complain that the baby Jesus was traded away!. This is exactly the non-move I expected from Ryan--and the results will be tepid--but most will forget anyway.
  24. I'm not sure how useful Blanton would have been, but KC (after a DFA) "traded" him to PIT for $150K. Sounds like that would have fit in the Twins budget. Also, the Twins would have to have budgeted E. Santana's entire salary for this season. Since he was suspended for 80 games they would have had to pay only for the other 82 games--quite a savings! Nolasco has been on the 60-day list, so I conclude the Twins would have collected some insurance on his contract, providing further savings on the budget. So it seems there was plenty of available cash (just based on what would have been allocated for 2015) to add a veteran player of two. So, what is the hold-up?
  25. Consider the view of the third dog on the sled team.
