  1. It is interesting to me to measure the best age for a prospect to be at the major league level (accruing service time but generating value for the team) versus developing (or being injured) in the minors. From Zimmerman's article, it appears that age 24-30 are peak years for position players.
  2. This is one of the best articles I have read on Twins Daily. I was fascinated to see Hughes go with the high fastball for his strikeout pitch this past year.
  3. I would be very surprised the way they've handled Molitor if he isn't the next manager. You don't treat a hall-of-famer to multiple interviews and then name someone else. I would be shocked if Molitor allowed himself to be handled this way as well.
  4. 4-20. I guess we played every other state pretty evenly.
  5. I certainly have liked his knowledge of the strike zone. He is aggressive, often swinging at first pitch strikes.
  6. I might be off by a few, but I counted 79 guys on base for the Tigers in this series. Glad we got a couple of wins.

  8. McHugh has thrown less than 10 fastballs for strikes.
  9. I was struck by how balanced the mlb.com top 20 list is for the Twins. Lots of ways to argue around the edges, but with Kepler, Buxton and Walker in the outfield, Sano, Gordon, Polanco, Rosario, Harrison, Vargas and Turner in the infield, the defense and offense is covered. (This doesn't include Santana.) Starting pitching looks strong with Meyer, Stewart, Berrios, May, Thorpe, Jorge, Gonsalves and Romero. Burdi and Melotakis round out the relievers (along with Glen Perkins-like starters from above). Turner is the only catcher, and outfielding is a bit thin. Still, I think you could compete at the Major League level with that 20 and some fillers.
  10. More time for Parmalee, until, of course, Mauer comes back.
  11. Tore his labrum.
  12. Can anyone recall Gardy using that kind of language on a veteran? Makes me wonder if Nolasco is somehow willfully screwing up.
  13. Vielma's 19 years old. He is doing well for his level of competition and his age.
  14. The guys on MLB radio gush about make-up and instincts, reinforcing the belief that he will have a very long career. The improvement he shows in hitting and power will determine where in the order he will hit - lead-off, second or in the bottom third. If he hits with power, the Twins will be paying him a bunch of money to keep him post-arb.
  15. The Twins apparently have too many starters in CR, so they have switched guys around. I have heard that Landa may go back to starting later in the season.
  16. The Twins have 3+ years of a greatly undervalued (underpaid?) center fielder, starting in 2015. After that, they will pay market rates.
  17. Nice note. My guess is that you will do well with a lot of things outside of the game.
  18. I felt watching him that: 1) his sinker was outstanding 2) the ball broke more than the umpire was expecting and he got screwed in ball/strike calling This was backed up by Inside Edge - Gibson was the fifth most-victimized pitcher in MLB in % of called strikes on pitches taken in-zone. (This was also explained by Parker - http://twinsdaily.com/entry.php/4458-Have-the-Twins-been-screwed-by-umpires) I don't know if the umps will start calling his strikes, but I am confident he will be a decent starter for the Twins.
  19. might want to play a right fielder that can, well, field.
  20. "Meyer missed a little time in 2013 with a shoulder issue but he built up some innings in the Arizona Fall League. He will likely start the year in Rochester but this means he is one injury away from making his big league debut." Let's hope the injury is not his.
  21. 2017 SP - H. Bailey (31) (2y. 40 mil) SP - E. Santana (34) (1y. 18.75 mil) SP - A. Meyer (28) (ARB1 4.5 mil) SP - K. Gibson (28) (ARB1 3.8 mil) SP - J.Berrios (23)/L. Thorpe (22)/K. Stewart (23) (1.0 mil)/(.750 mil)/(.500 mil) 2018 SP - H. Bailey (32) (1y. 20 mil) SP - A. Meyer (29) (ARB2 7.5 mil) SP - K. Stewart (24) (.750 mil) SP - J. Berrios (24) (1.75 mil) SP - L. Thorpe (23) (1.5 mil) I found this well-thought-out and entertaining. My hope is that in the out-years we will being to see upside from the 19-year-old latino players that are showing up on Seth's radar - Landa, Romero, Rosario, Jorge. They throw hard and one or two of them will be serviceable starters.
  22. and then to the Bucks. Let's hope he's luke ridenour-like.
  23. Having "watched" a bunch of games via MiLB Gameday, it is not at all clear to me that the fx data is accurate. Can anyone vouch for the accuracy of the pitch location?
