  1. The OBP is somewhat unrealistic for Player "A". That being said: With a slightly better OBP (.320), but better similar numbers in other categories, who would you then take? Player "A" is fictional - Player "B" is Joe Mauer's average numbers over 10 years. I hope we never become a money ball team. I like bunts and stolen bases and hit and runs. Play small ball with your small ball guys and let your Big Boppers do the Bopping. That should be the Twins Way of the future. Lot's of speed on the horizon and lot's of Power. The same way Jake Mauer led the Kernels to the BEST record in the MiLB. And he did it with a pitching staff that was 8th out of 16 teams. Speed and Power will be the Twins Way. Chemistry and Character will determine our future. How do our pieces fit moving forward? Is there chemistry with our prospects and Big Leaguers? Just do your job doesn't always work. I'm excited to see the chemistry of our lower level teams. Winning breeds winning.
  2. My friend was down in Ft. Myers today and said ABWalker hit his 4th home run in 8 Spring Training games. He also heard that he has 5 doubles during that time frame as well. His OBP & OPS% are great, but not due to BB's. That being said: If he is able to continue his solid play - What do you see in the future for him this year? 1) Stays in A+ or 2) Possible move to AA? 3) Are there prospects in front of him preventing his move forward?
  3. What makes you say Kepler is better at the OF position than Harrison and Walker? Both probaly have better arms (according to pipeline 5 tool chart) and Walker apeared to be faster as I watched throughout the season last year - IMO (even with his size). Kepler has a shorter swing and might become a better hitter, but for now - his stats for RHP vs LHP have too much differential. Did you guys know that Walker was also a 2nd Team All American at 1st Base in College behind CJ Cron? He has more versatility than people give him credit for. Harrisons arm can be a force in the OF as well and he played OF in high school. Glad Melo made the list.
  4. Crazy Question: 1) Would you rather have player (A) who averaged 1 hit per game while going 1 for 4 every game during his season, but got on base at a .250 OBP and had a .527 Slugging Percentage. (30 HRs / 10 Triples / 30 Doubles / 92 singles / 302 Total Bases / 104 Runs Scored / 124 RBI)? or 2) Would you rather have player ( who through an entire season, got on base at a .405 OBP and had a .468 Slugging percentage. (10 HRs / 4 Triples / 28 Doubles / 168 singles / 276 Total Bases / 84 Runs Scored / 62 RBI)? Consider that these stats stay pretty consistent from year to year. Both players play for the same team, however player “A” hits in the 4 hole and Player “B” hits in the 2 hole. Which player would you consider more valuable? Both have a strong value in terms of winning needs. The crazy question becomes: Who helps us win now with the current roster in place? And Who helps us win more in 2016 and beyond? In my opinion - Player "A" is a game changer and Player "B" is the model of consistency. Player "A" can change a game outcome with 1 swing, while Player "B" needs a stronger cast of players around him to prove his worth. YOUR PICK WOULD BE............? & WHY?
  5. This is true and that person should be amongst the league leaders in runs scored too. It's often the guy who drives in the runs is also amonst the league leaders / team leaders in runs scored. When you can do both at a high rate - That trumps all to me. Very relevant stat in my opinion. How do you say that being amonst the best at producing runs and scoring runs is not meaningful? Are you better off being Joe Mauer and leading the league at OBP, but playing with no one who can ever drive you home. Great player with little support in the traditional manner (Power / RBI Support). Guys who can change a game with one swing are often underrated.
  6. He needs to correct his SB ratio - He was caught stealing 25% of the time last year. He stole 55 bases in 74 attempts. With his speed I'm sure he will correct this, but it is his "Flaw" for now, if you ask me. Relies on speed and not good reads on the bases. Can easily be a 75+ SB guy. Willie was better
  7. Great list of some of the Top RBI producers in baseball . The only meaningful stat is Team Wins! Now what type of team helps you win? The Oakland A's Billy Ball? The question is -What mixture of player characteristics and tendencies form a winning combination? The way the Red Sox won last year with a bunch of grinders is every working mans fantasy. It is not the norm for winning championships however. Most championships are won because Star Players (Pitchers & Hitters / or any sport), produced in the regular season with the help of the many grinders on their team. That is not to say that the Star players are not team players or grinders too. Picture your Fantasy MN Twins lineup of the future (2016 & beyond). Why do you expect them to win? What will be the needed winning style of play? Let's assume better than average pitching, but not Top 8. What meaningful stat will be the difference maker? and what perennial champions have utilized your formula of success?
  8. I do apologize for derailing the previous thread. It was never my intention. Truly. That being said: My point is that someone needs to drive in runs. Most great teams (dynasty teams) have had those 2 or 3 guys who did most of the damage driving in runs. Every MLB - RBI Leader over the last decade has been an All Star based on his ability to drive in runs. There are very few Ichiro corner outfielder types who make the Hall of Fame. Quick question: For those of you who loved Willinghams season a efw years ago - What stat made you fall in love with his season?
  9. Joe Mauer has achieved an OBP of over .400 in 5 of the last 6 seasons but has yet to score or drive in 100 runs. I believe being the only player to do so in multiple years. My point being: League RBI leaders aren't necessarily a bad thing. You need those guys to drive in the Joe Mauer's. Getting over 100 RBI helped Willingham earn a Silver Slugger Award and gain respect amongst MN fans.
  10. Derek Jeter had 50+ errors one minor league season. Goodrum will be a solid defender and his OBP has always been good . As he gains consistency on the routine play and continues to make the spectacular plays - He will rival Santana for the SS of the future. Any word on the Hitters in minor league games?
  11. Who have the coaches seemed to be impressed with offensively? I heard Harrison was raking it pretty good in other reports. I'm curious as to whom is hitting well? Who do the coaches seem happy with in terms of having made adjustments since last season? Niko can definitely make some spectacular plays look routine dfensively. He can play 2nd / 3rd / or SS as well as any of our present prospects as well. Incredible arm / Range / Instincts
  12. I'd rather have solid defense and great power personally. Until we have lights out pitching (San Francisco / Tampa Bay style) we need run producers. You still have to outscore other team to win. Not poor defense at corner spot but solid defense with an amazing CF works (aka Angels).
  13. How was the hitting in the game? I would like to know who hit the ball hard and who looks primed for a quality season (thus far)? In 2012 the Twins were Top 10 in MLB in OBP and nearly last in HRs & sub .400 Slugging%. Where did they finish? How'd that formula work for them? The Kernels on the other hand had 89 more RBIs than the next closest oponent in their league. Result = Best record in MiLB - The also led the league in OBP (smaller margin) & Slugging % (only team over .400 OBP). That being said: OBP is extremely important, but the team with the most runs wins everytime. JUST WIN - Don't just get on base because its a cool stat. You need to score too.
  14. Who played CF for Miracle today? Any word on how the AA & AAA team did today? Who did what? Walker was something like 9-12 last year with bases loaded (3 Grand Slams). That's Clutch I know some guys will stay in extended spring training, but ETown has 20 pitchers listed. Who is going where from that group come the start of ETown season?
  15. And it seemed like most of the players ended up wearing different numbers than they wore in spring training camps last year. Their affiliated teams (Miracle / Kernes / etc.) might not have those numbers or if they do have those numbers - it may not be in their respective size. I'm sure Vargas would have a problem finding his size in every number .
  16. How did some of the Big (stature) prospects look defensively and offensively? Vargas; Walker; D. Hicks; Etc. - Just wondering how some of the future power guys are doing? Heard Vargas has been the talk of the camp (MLB) in many circles. Better all around player than most thought. Your views?
  17. Hey Seth: 1) Are there any noticeable physical changes in the minor leaguers as many of them have grown up in Twins system? Starting to look like "Men" or MLBers yet? 2) If Mike Kvasnicka is playing Catcher (inexperienced) and OF - where do you see him playing this Spring? Fort Myers or New Britain? Will they do him like they did Tyler Grimes last year (keep him back for development)? 3) Will Aderlin Mejia block Niko Goodrum's development or will Goodrum soon bypass him?
  18. Great work and information Seth. Thats the kind of coverage I love to read. Much appreciated.
  19. Minor leaguers have been in camp for 2+ days and there is no information on the happenings of our minor leaguers: How are practices going? Who looks in shape or out of shape? What interesting drills are guys going through? What guys are practicing new positions and how do they look? Are they with teams or soley position groups at this point of camp? When do games start? Are there schedules available to post? I'm Talking Practice Fellas - Practice. Give me some news
  20. I'm planning on going down to Spring Training next weekend. Can anybody post the minor league game schedule (on here) so my friends and I can figure out where we need to be to follow the right teams (A / A+ or AA / AAA)?
  21. Do Spring Training at bats mean much or should we be very pleased thus far with the success our young prospects are having hitting in MLB camps. Pinto; Kepler; Santana; Polanco; Vargas; Buxton; etc. - I've been pleasantly please with their aggressiveness and clutch performances thus far.
  22. Nice Article. I like the fact that J.D. Williams called the trio of Goodrum - Buxton and Himself the Soul Patrol while they played in Cedar Rapids. He is a funny kid and solid team leader. They were always seen together I'm told. Cedar Rapids had more African Americans on their team to start the season (2013) than the Twins had in the rest of their entire system. Cedar Rapids had 6 on the same roster at one point in the season. I would look for Adam Brett Walker to be a part of that Soul Patrol Outfield in 2 to 3 years and not Rosario. Tyler Jones (RHP) JD Wiliams (OF) Byron Buxton (OF) Niko Goodrum (IF) Adam Brett Walker (OF) Josh Burris (RHP) (though a short stay) If you are going to add Latin Players to the Soul Patrol outfield, then you must add Jeremias Pineda (OF). Williams - Pineda and Walker are young enough to possibly make that future roster and have useable roles.
  23. *Tyler Jones and his 95+ fastball. Can he consisitently close games at the higher levels. I say yes, but can't wait to see it personally. *Travis Harrison was much better at 3B last year defensively than people give him credit for. He also show major power potential. He might hit 30 if he stays in Midwest league again this year. *Tim Shibuya - Just knows how to pitch *Matt Thomshaw - A lefty with 4 to 5 quality pitches to keep hitters off balance. He is an underrated pitching prospect to me. Great long / middle releiver IMO *Madison Boer is also another pitcher who came on strong last year. Upside is there *Dalton Hicks - Better defender than advertised and just drives in runs (Hrbek ) *Hudson Boyd - former 1st rounder needs a bounce back year. Revamp approach *Adam Brett Walker - Sano went from hitting .250 in midwest league to .350 in high A. Can Doug Mientkiewicz and staff help Walker to a similar turn around. Power should play out the same if he continues to refine swing.
  24. On that note of who determines the "Line" for attitude. I was wondering - What is the average time frame for making it around the bases after a home run? 17 seconds - 20 seconds -23 seconds - 26 seconds? What is acceptable? *To watch at the plate and jog fast afterwards *To take a slow trot while viewing and admiring *To quick trot it around as to get to the next batter *To act like you've done it before and "no big thing it" *Do you smile but not too much *Do you show any emotion *Do you Ricky Henderson twirl at the plate Is there an unwritten line that is to be observed after a HR?

Are you surprised at all that Max Kepler is ranked at 1B or that AB Walker made the list at all for Corner Outfielders? Do you think Rosario would have been ranked higher if not for his incidents? Are you surprised that Polanco is ranked as high as he is throughout the minor league rankings for second basemen? I'm not. I said he was going to be a star in Elizabethton.
