Are you surprised at all that Max Kepler is ranked at 1B or that AB Walker made the list at all for Corner Outfielders? Do you think Rosario would have been ranked higher if not for his incidents? Are you surprised that Polanco is ranked as high as he is throughout the minor league rankings for second basemen? I'm not. I said he was going to be a star in Elizabethton.
  2. With our organizational outfield depth being one of our bright spots: Lets fantasize that each prospect and current 25 man roster outfielder reaches their potential. Who are the outfielders of the future? 2017 thru 2022 Oswaldo Arcia Byron Buxton Aaron Hicks Eddie Rosario Chris Parmelee Max Kepler AB Walker JD Williams Who provides the best combination (O/D) to win championships? PICK 4 & Explain why?

  4. http://razzball.com/2014-minor-league-preview-minnesota-twins/ Organizational Talent Rankings via Baseball America 2013 (10) | 2012 (19) | 2011 (13) | 2010 (6) | 2009 (22) 2013 Affiliate Records MLB: [66-96] AL Central AAA: [77-67] International League – Rochester AA: [66-76] Eastern League — New Britain A+: [79-56] Florida State League – Fort Myers A: [88-50] Midwest League – Cedar Rapids Graduated Prospects Oswaldo Arcia (OF); Aaron Hicks (OF); Chris Colabello (1B/OF); Chris Herrmann (C/OF); Ryan Pressly (RHP); Andrew Albers (LHP); Pedro Hernandez (LHP); Kyle Gibson (RHP) The Run Down With regard to fantasy impact on the farm, the Twins are right there with the Cubs at the top of the league. And, narrowing our scope a bit, no team in baseball can boast a better one-two prospect punch than what Minnesota has with Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano. But try not to distract yourself too much with the shiny, hyped-up names at the top of this list, because this org is loaded with talent from top to bottom. The top ten we have here don’t even tell the whole story — we’ll have to let the steady flow of homegrown talent speak for itself over these next few seasons. 5. Max Kepler is listed 14th amongst minor league first basemen. He is ahead of some promising names. Is anyone else surprised by this? 1st Base? Is this a sign moving forward? http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/position-by-position-rankings-first-basemen/
  6. TOP 30 Prospect Rankings 2014 1. Byron Buxton (Called up in September - handles struggles) 2. Miguel Sano (MLB starter by July) 3. Alex Meyer (MLB Starter off and on in 2014) 4. Kohl Stewart (Midwest League All Star) 5. Eddie Rosario (still great hitter - despite bad judgement) 6. Josmil Pinto (MLB starter by July) 7. Trevor May (Breakout year - future reliever) 8. Lewis Thorpe (High upside) 9. Adam Brett Walker (Higher OBP w/25+ HRs & 20+ SB's) 10. Jorge Polanco (4 SB / 4 CS - Is speed a tool?) 11. Max Kepler (Must hit LHP better - but great swing) 12. Jose Berrios (When bad - very bad & vice cersa) 13. Stephen Gonsalves (Sleeper in 2014 - better than Stewart) 14. Zach Jones (Less BB's this year - gets to AAA) 15. Danny Santana (Consistency will come in 2014 defensively) 16. Kennys Vargas (Gets to AAA in 2014 - continues to hit) 17. Travis Harrison (Defense keeps getting better + Power Year) 18. Stuart Turner (Fast mover in 2014) 19. Ryan Eades (Won't be flashy - but will win) 20. Taylor Rogers (People need to recognize - Throws strikes) 21. Brett Lee (Knows how to pitch & compete to win) 22. Mason Melotakis (Will end up a strong LH reliever in system) 23. Dalton Hicks (Just gets it done - solid defender @ 1st) 24. Jorge Felix (Solid potential & upside) 25. Niko Goodrum (Consistent Defense in 2014) 26. Tim Shibuya (Excellent stuff as a reliever) 27. D. J. Baxendale (high floor - must rebound from AA) 28. Miguel Sulbaran (More consistent than Berrios) 29. Tyler Jones (Not many in system with better stuff) 30. Matt Thomshaw (Super Sleeper - 5 Pitches - Hits corners)
  7. Of the Top 30 HR hitters in MLB last year - 15 had higher K rate than 21% Would you take any of these guys: Chris Davis 30% - .370 OBP Pedrto Alverez 30% - .296 OBP Mark Trumbo 27% - .294 OBP Evan Longoria 23.4% - .343 OBP Brandon Moss 27% - .337 OBP Jay Bruce 27% - .329 OBP Chris Carter 36% - .320 OBP Nelson Cruz 24% - .327 OBP Justin Upson 25% - .354 OBP Yoenis Cespedes 24% - .294 OBP Adam Jones 20% - .318 OBP Former Twin JJ Hardy Strikes out at an 11% rate but has a .306 OBP (go figure)
  8. It wasn't his (Walker) lack of contact, but his lack of luck with BABIP. Polanco didn't walk much either (11 more times than Walker), but had better average and OBP because that.
  9. People talk about Adam Brett Walker having continued strikeout issues (which hampers his ranking status) - but I question you guys: How many Minor League players or MLB players (in 2013) had a K rate of 21% (20.8%) or less and hit at least 25 HRs? I think his production based on that fact alone should place him higher on the ranking list. Please discuss your thoughts on the matter.........
  10. I like your lineup. I think guys like JD Williams and Dalton Hicks will be up in New Britian before July as well - along with several of the 2013 Cedar Rapids guys. Then the question becomes where do the guys on your list go? Do guys in AAA get released or do guys in AA get released to make room for some of these higher ranked lower level prospects? What is gained if Sano doesn't tear up AA? Do you now leave him there or do you eventually move him to AAA just because? I say move him to AAA and let him struggle and adjust throughout 2014 or until he needs to move up (MLB). IMO How does AAA differ from AA in terms of pitching and hitter expectations?
  11. Could not have said it better. Let's look at all the guys who play winterball: Do they seem to hit the wall during thier full seasons? I predict a monster year for Hicks for just that reason. REST (mental & physical)
  12. AARON HICKS on his decision not to play winter ball: “I thought a little about it, but I felt like it would be better for me to relax and think about stuff I need to do and get ready for another season rather than go right into another season. Just rest the body up. I’ve never had an actual offseason before. I’ve always played somewhere. It felt good to just relax.” I often wondered prior to reading this - if many of our young prospects should take time off after MiLB season. Hicks played last year and improved his skill set playing winter ball. He improved again in Spring Training, but hit a wall at beginnng of MLB season. Oswaldo played winterall as well if I'm not mistaken. As we try to train our young prospects for longer MLB seasons with winterball, do we do them a disservice by not providing rest for the upcoming season? Arcia and Vargas are still playing. I wonder if extended seasons (winterball) have an affect on their 2014 season (positive or negative)? What has past history shown?
  13. I would love to see that too. Let's get that going for a Spring Training BP. Walker would have to be able to go up with the big boys for that one though (Hammond Stadium BP).
  14. If the Twins have any outfielder who has a chance to be a Josh Hamilton Comp - It would be Walker (Size - Free Swinger - Power - Range - Production as a run producer). Not Benson. He just needs to step up with his OBP. He had an OBP of .400 / .486 / & .426 in college years respectively. Maybe he can get that awareness back. He has always been my Hamilton comp.
  15. I can see all three moving up to AAA during 2014 season. Danny Ortiz (LF), Byron Buxton (CF), Mike Kvasnicka (RF) I can see JD Williams. Roberts and possibly Walker moving to AA during 2014 season I see Murphy filling in where needed at High A and above based on injuries and such. I see Kepler staying in High A all year with his 2015 season being AA & call up possibility. I also see some trades in the near future for some of these guys. Probably add ons to bigger trades.
  16. As you look at your roster projections: Who are some guys that could block a mid season promotion from the lower levels if they played well? Example: If Nate Roberts plays well at Fort Myer - does he move to New Britain mid season and if he does move to New Britain - who from New Britain gets cut or moves up. I would like everyones Mid Season promotions and (possible / needed) moves to pull those promotions off..............
  17. Baseball America had Adam Brett Walker II as the #31 ranked prospect in last years handbook. He was only listed if you received the extra prospect edition (Top 30 + 1). I told folks last year that Adam Brett Walker was my breakout prospect and he did nothing to disappoint. (Midwest League / Topps MVP - 2nd in MiLB in RBIs - 27 HRs - and yes only a .319 OBP - but 2nd in Midwest League & 1st in Cedar Rapids in Runs scored). That being said: If (like all prospects) - he can continue to cut his K rate (30% in 2012 to 20% in 2013) and improve his BB rate - he might have a chance to move up on their ranking list. For the record - I see Walker improving again - He is my BREAKOUT player of the year again for 2014. For those who disagree - Name another player who had 25+ HRs and struck out with a K rate less than 20% (maybe a handful). For his production (27 HRs & 109 RBIs) he does not strike out too much IMO. I stand to say that his K rate is rather rare for that production. I just know one thing - HE WINS - "The intangible we need in MN" - Can't wait to see where he ranks in extended ranking edition.
  18. When looking at minor leaguers like Miguel Sano who has a flare for big moments - or Byron Buxton who seems to always be in the middle of game winning scenerios (runs/rbis/hrs) - What makes certain players clutch and others not so much? *Dalton Hicks game winning Grand Slam in Elizabethtons 2012 extra inning Championship game *Adam Brett Walker's game tying 3 run HR in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs in same game *Hicks continued to hit clutch doubles - HRs and singles in Cedar Rapids in 2013 *Walker hit another 3 run HR in the bottom of 9th to tie a game in 2013 *Walker hit 3 Grand Slams in 2013 and went something like 9 for 12 with bases loaded in 2013 Who and what were some of the clutch hitting and pitching performances in our minor league system in 2013? Give some stories as to who you think has that clutch trait..............
  19. The previous article on clutching hitting and pitching is a great analysis on the subject. My question is this: Is Clutchness a State of Mind or does it have to be developed throughout your minor league development? http://tenthinningstretch.blogspot.com/2014/01/clutch-hitting-and-pitching-and-2013.html
  20. I think this is a better idea and gives viewers a better view of who is playing at a higher level within their respective league. Most of these honors are voted on by league managers or GMs - That gives us an alternate perspective too as to who they deem "Hot".
  21. I would agree with you on Gibson (forgot about him). I would replace him with May. I also like Dozier at SS if he can handle it long term. That would make for an even greater line up.
  22. Does anyone know when Rochester contract expires? Forgive me if I might have missed comments on that earlier?
  23. My 2015 or 16 Playoff and More Line-up: 1) Byron Buxton CF (the next Rickey Henderson) 2) Eddie Rosario 2B (hit & run contact hitter) 3) Joe Mauer 1B (will become a RBI threat in 3 hole) 4) Miguel Sano 3B (30+ HR potential) 5) Oswaldo Arcia LF (can't pitch around Sano) 6) Kennys Vargas DH (switch hitting - complete batting threat) 7) Adam Walker RF (athletic power threat in back of order) 8) Josmil Pinto C (great hitter to protect Walker) 9) Goodrum or Santana (leadoff bats at back of lineup) Pitching Depth 1) Ricky Nolasco 2) Alex Meyer 3) Phil Hughes 4) Trevor May 5) (Player received for Dozier and Hicks Trade) Stewart - 2017 Berrios - 2017 Thorpe - 2018 Jorge - 2019
