  1. Were teams looking to trade value for him, though, or just trying to "help" the cheap last place Twins save a few bucks?
  2. No, sorry for the confusion. I was saying that Tulo would probably like to have an opt-out -- he'd easily top 5/98 this winter, and he could pick his new team. But he doesn't have an opt out.
  3. April 1988, actually.
  4. Polanco could interest them, but probably not as a stretch drive acquisition. Heck, the Twins might not be interested in Sanchez for the stretch drive either (not a great time to break in a rookie catcher). If he isn't moved, he is definitely a name to watch though. Maybe this offseason.
  5. Finnegan is probably exhausting his prospect list eligibility, but I would be surprised if he didn't otherwise fall precipitously. He hasn't a good year at any level, or in any role. (To be fair, he has been jerked around a bit, but I think his ceiling isn't as high as his rapid ascent to MLB suggested). Heck, if Cueto had not been traded, some team probably would have surrendered a draft pick comparable to Finnegan to sign him. The other two prospects don't look that great either. The Royals did pretty well to snag the one ace most likely to be moved. Other teams are now left to try prying Price from the Tigers or more difficultly Hamels from the Phils.
  6. I don't think we have anything that interests them. At least not for Sanchez at this time.
  7. Yeah, Finnegan isn't that great. And he has yet to really start as a pro (or even dominate out of the pen). Not a bad prospect to have, but not an elite guy. Not a difficult decision to fill an absolute gaping hole during an otherwise great season.
  8. We never had this problem in the Dome. Just sayin'.
  9. Is Arcia at this point all that different in value than Kielty circa 2003? Probably not that far ahead of Mark Red man circa 2001 either...
  10. "The stone rejected by the builders shall become the cornerstone." Torii? AJ? Hawkins?
  11. IIRC, Wieters is a Boras client. I doubt he signs an extension prior to fully testing the market (which is probably the only reason he might be available in trade in the first place).
  12. Basically, yes. But if they keep Wieters and make him a QO, it would give them an advantage in re-signing him too since other teams would have to forfeit a pick to sign him away.
  13. For sure, Jepsen and Jaso are flawed. But they are more likely to be dealt, and cheaply, than almost any other trade target mentioned around here. They might be this year's Orlando Cabrera and Jon Rauch.
  14. You don't have to be a star to get a QO. Almost any good starting player who is not that old should get one. And no player has accepted one yet. Given the catching market, I doubt Wieters would be the first!
  15. Most players would prefer a 4/40 type deal to a 1/16. Heck, Cuddyer turned down 1/15 last winter and almost immediately signed for 2/21.
  16. Jaso and Jepsen from the Rays might be very obtainable, though.
  17. And if Achter and Darnell are strictly triple emergency options, use those 40 man spot to evaluate Rogers and Duffey in advance of Rule 5 like we somehow failed to do with Gilmartin last year. (Or were we just being smart and aggressive and chasing wins with Burton and Swarzak late in the 2014 season?)
  18. They rode Thompson way too long. Boyer arguably too. Given their upside, the leash should have been much shorter with those two. Also not sure why we had to get more looks at Thielbar and Tonkin, who were actually seen plenty in 2014. New faces would have been more informative. Finally, O'Rourke and May have yet to pitch any really meaningful innings in relief. We've somehow gone about 4 months without actually testing any new high upside options.
  19. O'Day won't get that much, that is the point. Your team has to make a qualifying offer, which is a 1 year, $16 mil offer, in order to be eligible for draft pick compensation if the player signs elsewhere. And you can only extend a QO if the player was yours for the whole season. A deadline deal would make Wieters ineligible. So, despite having an expiring contract on a fading team, the Orioles have some incentive to keep him (Wieters, that is).
  20. The comp draft round comes immediately after the first round now, and the player's stats/rank do not matter. Barring further injury, Wieters will get a QO, which means he will either come back to the O's at a slight discount (other teams will lose a pick for signing him) or he will net them a pretty decent pick if he leaves. All that is voided if he is traded now, though. O'Day will not get a QO, it is basically a 1 yr, $16 mil contract offer.
  21. Kepler has 4 option years, so he could be optioned in 2017 too.
  22. Wieters was out for TJ surgery, not concussion.
  23. If the O's are willing to move him, that probably suggests he wants to test the market. I might bid that for him, though.
  24. Arcia is still young but he is not a prospect anymore. Or, if we are trying to spin him as some developing AAA prospect with over 2 years of MLB service time and no options left, that should give you some clue to his trade value.
  25. I am not nearly as confident as you that Papelbon and Chapman will be traded this week. O'Day might have a claim to being the best reliever actually moved, better than Benoit, Cishek, etc. And Wieters is no AJ.
