  1. Anyone know for sure where Rosario will play at New Britain, outfield or second base? Or will that be determined in spring training?
  2. Years ago in Bismarck the players scheduled to appear were unable to get into town because of weather conditions during the caravan here. Dick Bremer was in town for it and notified Terry Ryan and Ryan jumped on a plane and came out for the event. Absolutely the most enjoyable caravan I ever was at and there have been many. Terry was way beyond knowledgeable and gracious to the fans there, an absolute delightful man on that evening of so long ago. I wonder if Terry would remember that.
  3. I seriously doubt the Twins will sign a free agent at all, hope I am wrong, they'll limp along with the likes of Parmelee, Mastroianni et al off of the bench, remember where you heard this and other members will agree I am sure. Oops, forgot Colabello, it is torture watching him bat, who else will second that notion?
  4. Jeremy, What is GATG, excuse my ignorance for not picking up on that reference but I sure would like to see the uploads also.
  5. More on "The Man" - Watched Bob Costas's eulogy on youtube, simply terrific. During it Bob mentioned doing the eulogy at Mickey's funeral also. He says......As I was speaking all of the ex players were grouped together up at the front but I glanced half way down the aisle and saw Stan standing by himself. He had gotten on a plane from St. Louis and flew to Mickey's funeral all by himself just to pay homage to a great fellow player. Then quietly slipped out and returned again to St. Louis. That is just about all we need to know about the classiness of "The Man", isn't it? YouTube probably still has Bob's eulogy on Stan and Mickey's also I would imagine.
  6. Sure like to see some of those "attitude" types show up on the current MLB roster - frankly I see no candidates and that scares me. Can anybody name at least one?
  7. Great stuff about Williams, I did not realize his numbers were that spectacular. He was as he said he wanted to be known as when he walked down the street: "There goes the greatest hitter that ever lived". So, who is #2 then if not the "Babe"? The "Man" perhaps?
  8. I will undoubtedly be called "old-school" but I do not think potential playoff teams worry about getting offense from their shortstops but look for it more from the traditional spots in the lineup that provide it such as the corner infielders and outfielders. When the full contingent of young players such as Buxton, Sano, Arcia and others are performing at hopefully their full potential the shortstop could likely be Santana, Polanco or Goodrum and the lineup would be just fine. If production is not arrived at from those traditional positions it will not mean a thing who the shortstop is down the road.
  9. I find it incredulous that no one else has signed in on the statement that I made earlier about Mickey and Willie being better at age 20 to 22 than Trout and Hamilton also for that matter. In fact has there ever been any two better than Mantle and Mays at such an early age? Henry Aaron would qualify also except I think he may have been a little bit older than "The Mick" and "Say Hey".
  10. What was the Carew-Oliva byplay all about?
  11. There are other options for the Twins at short, namely Escobar and Bartlett who may do just fine if given the opportunity.
  12. Let me second about Johan teaching Berrios his changeup and pitching style - how awesome would that be!!
  13. Trout - better than Willie and Mickey - not hardly by a long shot.
  14. I am impressed with not only Berrios attitude and eagerness to improve but also that of Meyer and May. Who else of the young pitchers has impressed anyone with their attitudes?
  15. While Allison was a wonderful player I'd still prefer Oliva and I would think at least 90% of us think the same way. He would be in Cooperstown without a doubt if not for his career ending leg injury. And while "Molly" is in the Hall I still consider him more of a Brewer than a Twin.
  16. There surely must be some players missed here that played some great shortstop for the Twins over the years, aren't there?
  17. Why would not someone else besides Juan Castro be the obvious second place defensive shortstop. What about Leo Cardenas?
  18. Bartlett mentioned as the second best defensive shortstop the Twins have ever had, I wonder about that one. Not that he was not good but there have been many other shortstops over the years who were very good fielders and would rank higher than Bartlett I would think. At this time I cannot name them but you folks know of some of them I am sure.
  19. Great comment by Halsey Hall, the game do not count yet many people that look at spring box scores become unglued when certain pitchers get lit up in pre-season games. We should all understand that it is "training", nothing more than that.
  20. I doubt Ryan is hoping for May to put up numbers like Guerrier, isn't he really more interested in him becoming part of the rotation? But a relief pitcher putting up numbers such as Guerrier did is worth settling for I think. Plus Worley may come around as well, if so the trade really becomes lopsided in the Twins' favor. An aside - I've not seen anything about Worley become a reliever, is that beyond the realm of possibility?
  21. If May puts on a similar 9 year run of dominance the Twins have a pitcher that will garner a few Cy Young awards. How many think this will happen?
  22. Almost all members say Correia will be traded and that is entirely possible but I also hardly think he is a red hot commodity especially to a contender, there will be many more options out there some better than Correia, others not, so let's wait and see how this scenario plays out, shall we? The ball club has many other problems that take precedence I would think.
  23. cmathewson, I hardly think Plouffe will start putting up David Ortiz numbers, do you or does anyone else posting here think so either? And within the current organization the improvement at third will obviously be Sano which you implied in a round about way. Plouffe in the outfield or DH down the road? Possibly, but not with the numbers he has put up so far, I am talking real traditional numbers now not WAR which is a problematical stat anyway, isn't it?
  24. Seth, how can you or anyone say that Plouffe was not a weak spot given his production (or lack thereof in 2013)? If every team in MLB had such poor figures from any position offensively they would easily be candidates for 90+ losses each year. And, guess what, that is also exactly the Twins victory total each year for the last three seasons.
  25. clutterheart mentions that Santana is the best prospect in house for a decent homegrown shortstop from the Twins system - is that necessarily true? How about Polanco and/or Goodrum or someone else I have forgotten to mention.
