  1. 2012 Willingham was the perfect FA? Why because that's one that can be pointed to that Ryan did? He was signed during his supposed declining years, he was signed when we aren't competitive. His contract exists during rebuilding. His contract fits the criteria of quite a few people's ideas of a bad FA signing. About the declining years reason, Willingham will be 35 at the end of his contract...Sanchez will be 34 younger when his contract is up. But one reason many of us were told it was a bad idea to even try and get Sanchez was we'd be paying for declining years. Of course, I, personally, had no problem with the signing. I liked it, in fact. I thought it was silly to say it was a good signing because it was cheaper than signing Cuddyer...only because the saved money wasn't put back into the product on the field...but overall I liked the signing. Doesn't change the fact that it is a signing that fits quite a few criteria of a bad signing given by a lot of people here.
  2. That's weird. I've been to a good amount of games there and there always seemed to be boatload upon boatload of Rockies jerseys/shirts/hats everywhere. I'm sure you're right though, being there more often.
  3. I don't think that's true, but in any event, I hope to be there. My two favorite teams facing off at Coors Field.
  4. I posted an article about the percentage of top 100 prospects pan out to show exactly that...and people still think all of our top guys will pan out and we're on our way to being strong contenders. It's just so unrealistic to believe that and to justify not spending because of it. The Royals and Pirates, after all those years of having very good farm systems and high drafts picks, are FINALLY seeing results...but talk about extremely long journeys and loads of prospects that just didn't work out.
  5. If one tries hard enough, there's always a way to find some rationale/justification/excuse for not signing someone. The perfect FA doesn't exist..and the closest ones, well they are just too darn expensive...
  6. I wish I could have blind faith like so many do when it comes to Ryan.
  7. If you read the post Jeremy was responding to, and then read Jeremy's response again, you'd see that all Jeremy was doing was explaining to that poster why just under 80M was mentioned as opposed to 49M...
  8. All that stuff you mentioned has been happening in the game for a very long time...even the glory days of the 70s and 80s.
  9. You forgot 5) they'd require contracts that would take them into their declining years.
  10. Since I'm not a Twins beancounter, it doesn't mean much to me that we get a little more value for a 4.5M player. I'd rather we get 12M value from a guy we pay 16M than get 6M value from a guy we pay 5M...because that guy is better.
  11. Oakland and TB know how to target quality pitching by trade or draft...and they are good at developing pitching. Why would they go buy pitching? When we can do THAT, people might not push to go get it elsewhere. BTW, as payroll sits now, the Metrodome could have handled it...
  12. First, Bagwell has only been up for HOF three times, he's gained votes every time. It's not over for him yet...he almost got 60% this year. Second, it would be up to MLB baseball to take away the MVP.
  13. Even if he does, it's 5.5M...that's nothing for a FA pitcher. No one is going to say, wow, they overpaid him by 2 or 3M over the life of his contract, what an overpay! :-) It would fall under the 'technicality an overpay', but seriously absolutely no big deal at all.
  14. Well, Correia has already outplayed this years contract by 1.1M, so we can't really say that. In any event, 2yrs/10M is only considered overpaying in the FA market by the cheapest of teams...it's like telling someone they overpaid because they spent 1 dollar when they could have paid 98 cents. It's not even worth bringing up as overpaying....cause it's a dollar.
  15. There are too many big times things Mauer has accomplished while primarily being a catcher...and that only he has accomplished...to say he isn't worthy of the HOF.
  16. A couple of questions: What constitutes 'middle of the pack'? Does being middle of the pack make one good? As far as why I wrote what I wrote. Too many people look at ERA as how to rank someone's season. If one looks at ERA, one would say Pelfrey has had a below average season. There's no way around that. If one looks at FIP, it's a different conversation. I brought up FIP and it's correlation with WAR because you brought up WAR. We had a conversation not so long ago where I was talking about a player's FIP and you blew it off due to correlation between the FIP and ERA being too small....even though we're already dealing with small numbers to begin with. So do we go with FIP or not?
  17. IMO, that's hardly amazing. Terry Ryan would have to actually 'overpay' first before he could get burnt by overpaying.
  18. We have Arcia, Hicks, Buxton, Keplar...just for starters...that we're looking at for OF spots in the next couple years...but we're also talking about Rosario going out there since Dozier is doing so well, and now Sano? How many starting OF we gonna play? It's like talking about all of our #5 type starting pitchers. :-)
  19. That's a question for the moderators, certainly posts nowhere near as offensive as calling a group of people's opinion stupid have been given warnings or been outright deleted.
  20. Plouffe has a -6.9 UZR at 3B. That's bad. Not Miguel Cabrera bad, but it's bad. Most of the people rated below him are either huge (Panda), playing injured (Zimmerman who is usually good), old (Young) or playing out of place because their bats (Cabrera). Just because there are players at 3B currently doing worse, doesn't make him any less terrible at 3B. You wanna say it's over-exaggerating, that's your OPINION. Calling other people's opinions over-exaggerating to the point of STUPIDITY just because you disagree is something frowned upon on this site.
  21. Last year, Revere posted a 15.4 UZR in RF. Only two other RF in baseball rated better. No RF had a better UZR/150. Revere had 11 DRS in RF last year. Only 3 RF in baseball had more....and they all had at least 400 more innings played out there. He did pretty darn well out there for us.
  22. Although the bullpen has a great ERA and has logged a boatload of innings, they've had a real problem with letting inherited runners score. Only three bullpens in baseball have let a higher percentage of inherited runners score and only one bullpen has allowed more inherited runners to score.
  23. because of the extreme athleticism and capability he's shown in the OF so far would be wasted at 1B...
