  1. I realize we have an annoying tendency towards hubris in this country but this is overcompensating. Russia, Turkey, and Israel aren't countries I would hope to emulate.
  2. I'll raise my spill proof glass too- Plouffe leads the team in first half HRs. Dozier repeats as all-star. Rosario proves he's legit. Bullpen... doesn't have any all star reps.
  3. 4. Best potato chip I have ever had was at KC's saloon in Pillager. If you ever take the 210 through thath part of the state, do yourself a favor and stop in for the German nachos on their home made potato chips. Sooo good.
  5. It is impossibly noisy IMO. The two-strike dynamic, the sac bunt angle, which in truth how many times are sac bunts 100% sacrifice? More like a semi-sacrifice I'd say, in most cases. Bottom line, a well placed bunt is a good tool to have in the back of your toolkit. It shouldn't be front and center like the Twins had with Gogo. There was an article on bunting I had read way back that attempted to put a finer understanding on the effectiveness of sac bunting and IIRC it included a stat that said something like 50% of PAs where a bunt was attempted at one point, the PA reached two strikes and the bunt attempt was abandoned. If you assume that was the case with Gogo, that would mean almost one in 5 PAs were a bunt atttempt. Obviously that was a terrible squandering of his power skill.
  6. Sure, when he got it down. As I said the denominator only includes PAs which ended on bunt attempts. At least I assume that is the case. Maybe someone can correct me if that's not true. If true, any time he squared to bunt, and fouled the ball or missed, took a strike, etc. and found himself in a 2-strike count, would not be counted.
  7. Bunting is fine, hitting is better. I hope the Twins are always challenging Buxton to hit the ball over the fence, and not think about dropping it 25 feet down the foul line like they did with Gogo. Pop quiz. How many of Gogo's PAs *ended* in the form of a bunt attempt? (this excludes the early- or mid-count bunt attempts before going to two-strikes because he failed to get the ball down) Of the 963 PAs he took as a Twin, EIGHTY EIGHT ended in a bunt attempt. By comparison, Andrew McCutchen has 12. For his career. I hope the Twins are serious about envisioning Buxton as a McCutchen type player.
  8. Most projections like Plouffe to hit better in 2016. He is 3 years younger, has +1 year of control. He's probably at least as good of a glove. He's a liked guy in the clubhouse. I can understand the argument that Sano should have taken over but the Twins should not shipping away players like Plouffe for a bag of balls and $4m.
  9. How's this for a misreading. Nolasco approached his agent, Sosnick, about going to bat for him with the Twins and his starting job. Sosnick, who reportedly has an excellent working relationship with the twins, used Doogie's question to get in front of the possibility, and make clear to Ricky and the Twins, that any complaining about roles would be done by Ricky directly. But, that's way out there conjecture-wise. I agree we'll probably never know exactly what kind of person Ricky's like. And of course there is plenty of time for Ricky to change his tune and make the best of whatever circumstance he finds himself in this year.
  10. There are a few places to get lineups, the fishwap writers usually post them on twitter the soonest. If you're not on twitter then this website gets em up pretty quick too: www.baseballpress.com/lineups
  11. YOU'RE RAIGHT I'LL TRY HARDERRRRRRRRRRRR
  12. Impossible. I can only give 110%.
  13. Perhaps Ricky is starting to think about that $13m option for 2018 that only vests if he pitches 400 IP in 2016-2017.
  14. I don't like em either.
  15. Just to be clear then, the "really terrible" solution involves changing the qualifications for handing out federal aid from "need based," to "merit based," correct?
  16. Just an FYI, not sure if everyone is aware, but you can bring in your own outside food and drink. No need to smuggle it in your trousers Spinal Tap-style. So there is $$ to be saved there.
  17. Agree with the conclusion but can you really blame colleges for behaving as they do when the federal government pumps $150b of aid into the industry every year?
  18. Every ball Dozier puts in play goes for extra bases. He seems ready. Quentin leads NRI's in PAs. I think the Twins want him to win a spot. I have to admit I am intrigued. He reminds me of Willingham in a lot of ways. Tommy Milone leads pitchers in strikeouts with 3. They are averaging 5.2 K/9 thru 5 games as a staff.
  19. Maybe I'm overthinking this but it seems like the party move would be to force the R's to follow through with blocking a hearing. All Obama would need to do is find someone with a semi-controversial decision on say, immigration. Then D's in every district could paint the R party as "those inept derelicts in Congress" which is the #1 popular complaint about politicians. Maybe that would be enough to win a few House seats (even though confirming SCOTUS nominees is a Senate action, I don't think that would matter). But, maybe that is all too gamey for Obama's liking. Or maybe he is not willing to assume Clinton will win the next election.
  20. True but most people aren't elite legal minds so we reduce judges to "liberal," "moderate," "conservative" etc. based on their interpretations of one or two hot button topics. The gay marriage vote, for example, is going to cement Roberts and Scalia as "conservatives" in the minds of a lot of folks, even though their opinion was 100% about constitutional interpretation and 0% about the foundation of the family or love or society or things the rest of us bring up when talking about gay marriage.
  21. I haven't been following this very closely but based on what you describe, would it be a sound strategy for Obama to nominate a lefty, force the R's to deny a hearing, thereby potentially gaining a few house seats in the next election, along with the WH and obviously whoever Hillary nominates (a lefty)?
  22. You might even not put him in the outfield in the first place, if you had that concern.
  23. No offense Bob but if it turns out you've diagnosed plantar fasciitis on Sano before the Twins medical staff does, I might have a stroke. Really worried about what Sano is going to tell you Friday.
  24. I have to admit when I saw the first article in this series I was in shock and awe about the scope of it - ten players! But here we are. Kudos Jeremy.
