    That's the part that gets me. One college coach off his rock? Sure. But, all of them? I mean we'll see how the rest of the draft goes but with last year's harvest of college relievers and now Jay, it seems increasingly likely that the Twins feel there is a widespread inefficiency across college ball where coaches are miscasting starter talents. What would be the explanations for this?

    Cuddy, Hardy and Valencia were the only RHs in those days. That is the way to do it IMO. Just blitz the opposing starter with opposite handed bats and worry about matchups when the opponent forces the issue hopefully because they've had to yank the starter for putting his team in a hole.

    He does have a cool name though. Actually there are a few cool names - Funkhouser, Dansby, Kolby, oh and Kirby!

    I highly doubt the return from Mike Pelfrey would improve the team in the near term or the short term. Plus, think about it. Who trades for rentals? Other contenders. Well if the Twins are in contention at the deadline, they're not going to want to improve another AL contender so right there the market is narrowed to NL teams, further whittling any return to at best Escobar lite (lite). But, I would love to see this team trade from their prospect pool. They have yet another top 10 pick coming, they can afford to. A prospect package for a promising young player in his 20s who is maybe pre-arb or early in arbitration would be ideal IMO.

    I really like this kid but have a hard time with the corner outfield part. Is there any upside with the glove at all? Any chance he could stick in Center?

    If this guy has 3-4 above average pitches, why the heck isn't he starting?

    If Fulmer and Tate are both available, I'd like to see them take Fulmer. Both pitchers are transitioning from relief to starting and by any measure you want to use, Fulmer has been more successful at it. Also, give me a big curveball over a big slider any day.

    His finish looks a little weaker on those two pitches compared to the one from last year. You can see it with his glove hand, it tucks and pulls all the way past his hip in that 2014 pitch, but in the two from this year he keeps it more out front. Maybe he's a little preoccupied with getting into an optimal fielding position?

    Agree. I think fans get it right most of the time and would love to be able to vote for pitchers too.

    Dozier and Plouffe are grouped in against some very good players. I will vote for Dozier as a homer tie-break but Plouffe doesn't quite make the cut (at this point) IMO.

    He is also the all time hit leader in Ohio prep baseball. I normally put more weight into stats than scouting but I think they might oversell Benintendi's ability here. Particularly his power. At least one HR is an inside the parker. And just looking at some youtubes, a lot of the ones that cleared the fence were wall scrapers. Combined with the composite bat and the fact that he has to pull to get anything over the fence and I doubt his power will translate that well against better competition, wooden bats, etc.

    Understood. My first comment was directed at the perception that has dogged Mauer, discussed earlier in the thread, that he's not clutch. Perhaps I should have been clearer. In this particular stretch of 52 PAs it seems to be he's been exceptionally lucky, in addition to clutch, and that has allowed him to stockpile RBI (the thread being about Mauer's RBI).

    SSS, in which his BABIP is .464. Again, grounder to the left side = 3 RBI.

    There's no denying Mauer is a bit better with men on. But the RBI streak he's on right now can't possibly last. I mean, scoring Dozier from 1st on a grounder to the left side? Reminds me of Colabello cca. April 2014.

    Let's say Sano wasn't part of the picture. Would Harrison be starting more games at 3B? How does his IF glove compare to his OF glove? Is his 3B glove better than Sano's?

    Jay is very much a mystery to me still. Hardly any video out there of him that I can find. Just looking at his stats, he does appear to have good command with only 6 walks against 206 BFs, to 63 Ks. Thing is its almost all been in relief. Can't help but wonder why a junior with 3 plus pitches (supposedly) wouldn't be starting.

    Well, the Twins haven't moved Sano off third yet. And I don't know why you'd move Plouffe off third since his improved glovework is half the reason for him being a top 10 3B now. And where would you move him to? That is the whole conundrum with hoarding all of Plouffe, Sano, Varags, Arcia, and Mauer (who has a NTC). At least one player would have to move off position which automatically squanders value right there. A trade could easily be the more efficient option IMO.

    I'm not suggesting the Twins call the Brewers or San Francisco and offer to give them Plouffe for their catcher. There are 47 catchers on the baseball prospectus framing leaderboard with a positive value. A lot of them are young with some bat. Some teams have a catcher in the pipeline like the Twins have a 3B in the pipeline. Maybe there's a fit? I'm just suggesting a hypothetical that would be interesting and improve a pretty bad organizational weakness. As for, what is the value of Plouffe on the open market, teams are going to be privvy to Plouffe's improvements too. 2-2.5 WAR with 4 WAR upside and no contract? That is an attractive player.

    He is a top 10 player at his position, thus it seems reasonable that other teams might pay a fair price for his services. Fair, not lopsided. I don't know how you inferred that.

    Oh, right. Loserville, USA. None of our players are worth anything, woe is me, etc. Is it so far fetched that one of our better players might, hypotethically, return someone interesting at a position of need? I guess I didn't get that memo.
