  1. Saunders turned down the Twins 1/10m offer then?
  2. I wonder if anyone has ever called that number.
  3. I voted 70-79 because it is in the middle of 50 and 100
  4. And yet, in today's game, frequently the guys who strikeout the most hitters are among the leaders in innings pitched and complete games. Schilling and Johnson each lead the league in CGs 4 times, and each had 20 year careers. Pedro, Mussina, Smoltz, all threw 3000+ IP.and were perennially among strikeout leaders. This has always been the case (starters only, min 1000 IP). http://i.imgur.com/73FsvGx.png But, break it down by era. And you see that right now, strikeouts are a better predictor of ability to pitch deep into ballgames and have long careers, then they've ever been. http://i.imgur.com/TCGkNUz.png http://i.imgur.com/e27uPdd.png http://i.imgur.com/Z5AOMzd.png http://i.imgur.com/BXqgEZc.png Looking at just the last 6 years: http://i.imgur.com/sZJkAqp.png
  5. Because the Pirates drafted Appel at 7 last spring and he declined. So they are promised another top 10 pick in 2013. That pushes everyone below them down a spot. The mets had 10 going into 2013 but now they've been pushed out into unprotected territory. Only top 10 picks are protected.
  6. I like it. Good for Ms fans.
  7. The other thing is, the Ms moved in their fences all around Safeco's left side, including a big slice of left center. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://l2.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/2BokA5J._T.YbifBUWrH7A--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NQ--/http://media.zenfs.com/en/blogs/sptusmlbexperts/Safeco2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/mariners-move-safeco-field-fences-2013-214006250--mlb.html&h=389&w=630&sz=23&tbnid=y8NXv6HK8NbMYM:&tbnh=75&tbnw=122&zoom=1&usg=__WHWztxa5_0LG_eMrEpXC1VInNdM=&docid=ShRlAOZaW9CTnM&sa=X&ei=jC0VUc7cE6322AXDj4CgAQ&ved=0CDYQ9QEwAQ&dur=1242
  8. They're also profiling the Twins on thier Effectively Wild podcast today Baseball Prospectus | BP Daily Podcast: Effectively Wild Episode 136: 2013 Season Preview Series: Minnesota Twins
  9. The guy is an OBP and SB machine. Does he have trouble catching fly balls? I am intrigued.
  10. Justin Upton begs to differ
  11. Gernzy what was the $$ we offered? dollars and years there are two parts to that
  12. Haddyz do you have any facts to backup your criticism or only your personal observations?
  13. According to this guy anyway: Poor man's Ben Revere: Twins sign OF Antoan Richardson - Sporting Sota - A Minnesota Sports Site - Vikings, Twins, Grizzlies, Wild, and Golden Gophers Seems to have no problem drawing walks or stealing bases. Anyone know what Richardson's deal is?
  14. For 2015 maybe. I doubt we do for 2013 or maybe even 2014. The potential for a comp pick in 2014 is the least of it, IMO. And, as Jim Pohlad has said all offseason, the cash isn't a problem.
  15. Every offseason there are cheap 1B and DH bats, so I don't like an extension. Also we have paid for enough downtime with the concussions already. If Morneau has a good year, maybe the Twins make a qualifying offer but if he declines then you take the comp pick and let Mauer/Parmelee/Doumit/Plouffe/cheap FA play 1B. This team has enough DH stiffs already. Save the money for skill players who can hit. Or pitching.
  16. I would prefer a full blown imitation of June 2012 Plouffe, but I'd still celebrate a reasonable facsimile, or even a vague likeness.
  17. Looks like another Gordon Beckham prospect bust to me.
  18. Might be he lacks confidence?
  19. If everyone on this team put together as many quality at-bats as Mauer, we would win 100 games every year. He is as good as it gets.
  20. Or, as applied to baseball season, the Twins could range anywhere from Unseasonably bad Reasonably unwatchable Don't buy Risky Unseasonably watchable Watchable Unsellably lullabiable
  21. The other side of the coin is that guys are more appealing as rentals because they're not attached to comp picks anymore. At worst, the Twins save a year of Hicks. At best, Bourn has a great start and another team besides the Mets gets interested. Not to mention the value Bourn provides on the field. He will probably regress a bit but but still be plenty productive at age 30. If the Twins, or another team signs Bourn to a high dollar 1 year deal, then it was worth it for Boras to decline the Braves qualifying offer. More money, same no. of year. Bourn would have to completely fall off the table for him to not decline a qualifying offer again. That is the only risk.
  22. A sign and trade to the Mets could be profitable, if MLB isn't willing to let them keep their 11th pick. edit: Bourne would also allow you to hold off on starting Hicks' arb clock till June or whatever. At that point, Gibson would be nearly ready to shut down. It might be a risk worth taking, on a 1 year deal. Trade him before the deadline for a starting pitcher to replace Gibson, and pocket the extra year of service time for Hicks and Gibson. Maybe the Mets would give us Marcum.
  23. I'm not giving up, I'm just playing the odds here. 3000 PAs of mediocrity versus 370. With sample sizes like those, you don't take a guy north just because he had a nice 10 or 20 games in spring training, and you don't hand him the job outright the next season either. Not after flopping like he did.
  24. As far as I'm concerned, Parmelee's chance to prove himself, was last year. He played 64 games, not all consecutively, but Gardy gave him plenty of chances to get into a rhythm. These games count just as much as the 64 games in AAA where he had a good long hot streak. What we saw was the real Chris Parmelee, back. f you keep giving guys chances to find that hot streak again, you risk filling your roster with Alexi Casillas.
  25. 280 nice little AAA PAs, after 2700 PAs of mediocrity. Chris Parmelee is not Jose Bautista. He had a hot streak. That is all.
