  1. Squandering an early lead then being overpowered by a superior Yankees bullpen? Yep, it gets old. I'm going to bed.
  2. Doumit cannot block a ball for the life of him. 3 wild pitches, a stolen base, 6 or 7 free runner advancements tonight. edit: oh and a throwing error to 1b from Burton
  3. Float like a anvil, sting like a coffee table
  4. Big night tonight. DIamond shakes the 6th inning monkey off his back, Morneau gets a historic strikeout, and Parmlay hits the go ahead HR
  5. I don't know. Remember when Diamond was asked to hit Josh Hamilton? That was... so poorly executed it didn't even warrant a retaliation IIRC.
  6. Actually, yes. He started the night only 1 off, not two. and Clete was the victim. Dibs on Chumlay to give him the lead outright.
  7. Pettitte 2 strikeouts away from tying Whitey Ford for the lead in K's in Yankee history. I think its safe to assume he gets there tonight, the question is, which Twin will have the honor of giving it to him?
  8. No. Lefties can't hit for power in TF.
  9. Someone needs to take Robinson C, put him on a raft and push him out to the Caribean in a hurricane to crash land on a desert island someplace.
  10. 2012 Minnesota Twins Lineups and Defense - Baseball-Reference.com Sub year in url. Chris Hermann DH'ed once last year
  11. Gardy has to intervene because Morneau's never had to argue a I-beat-it-out call
  12. Shouldn't Pettitte be in bed by 8:00 eastern?
  13. I think in lieu of a better option, at least internally, the best thing at this point would be to just re-sign Morneau.
  14. He's not getting quite the same extension this year, short arming a little. Elbow bothering him still would be my guess.
  15. Mauer is, I didn't include him. I also tossed out the handful of PAs Ramirez or Mastro took from him. He's had plenty of playing time. As another poster said, playing him 5/6 nights instead of 4/6 isn't going to push the needle very much either way.
  16. Adjusting Linear Weights for Extreme Environments | FanGraphs Baseball You're less dependant on extra base hits in a high OBP environment because you'll be able to sustain rallies longer.
  17. Right. wOBA judges every batter by the same weighted averages but team scoring environments aren't all identical. A walk in a low OBP environment isn't as valuable as in a high OBP environment (although still valuable). Likewise a home run in a low OBP enviroment is more valuable on average, than one in a high OBP environment. The Blue Jays are built this way. The Red Sox are excellent in every respect, so Pedroia's OBP contribution, still very valuable, might not be as valuable to his team as Desmond's HRs are to the Nats who are pretty terrible offensively in every respect.
  18. Parmelee has started 49 of the Twins 72 games, or 68%. There are 6 players for the 4 spots Parmelee's eligible for. 7 if you include Mauer (I won't). On a perfectly egalitarian team each of those guys would be sitting 1/3 of the time. Or, almost exactly as often as Parmelee has sat.
  19. I wonder if Mauer has done something to address his ground ball tendencies. Or at least, has he tailored his approach to the type of pitcher that he's facing. This could be SSS noise, but so far he is absolutely pounding ground ballers. http://i.imgur.com/aGdw97n.png edit: also worth noting that he's got a .500 BABIP against them but 10 doubles in 57 PAs would suggest he's just hitting them hard too.
  20. I'm done quibbling after this. The bottom line is that I don't share this board's excitement about punting major league at bats for long shot causes. Unlike 2B or 3B, there are at least 3 or 4 better options available in RF or 1B/DH on the 40 man. I'd be arguing the same about Plouffe if he was taking time from a Korey Koskie or established and productive veteran, but he's not.
  21. Nobody knows where this team will end up, whether its 70 wins or 80 or 88. Its June 24, there are 90 games left. Until the magic number approaches zero, I expect Gardy to field his best 9 every day without regard for 2014 and especially not for one lousy player's development. That's what the minor leagues are for. There's only 40 places on the roster. You don't sacrifice entire years or games or even 1 at bat hoping for Jose Bautista type turnabouts from guys. Parmelee is 26, not 21. The verdict is in. He's not the answer at 1B now or in the future. By the way, where's the battle cry for Clete Thomas? He experienced a similar hot streak in AAA after years of mediocrity too!
