  1. Phew. Welp, I'm just glad the Braves got him. Bullet. Dodged.
  2. The opening song is great too.
  3. The Twins offense scored 614 runs last year, but their team wRC was 645, which suggests they may have underperformed slightly. It was a -31 run differential, the 4th worst in baseball. The Tigers, Dodgers, and Rays were the other 3 worst underperformers, if you can believe it. The greatest overperformer was the Cardinals. They scored 783 runs and wRC said they only were worth 715 - a +68 run differential. That's only 70 wRC better than the Twins. All that is to say, progression and timing. If Arcia, Dozier, Hicks, Pinto, et al collectively improve the offense by 70 runs or more, and they get a few clutch hits, they could score a heck of a lot more than 614 runs this season. Also Mauer stays healthy. That's sort of important. Hammer too.
  4. I once saw a mouse come back to life after my cat "killed it."
  5. Turner has 1 xbh (a double) in first 16 games (of 58).
  6. 2nd video [video=youtube;K-3VE81ZhgA]
  7. Grant Holmes is intriguing me as a sleeper candidate. He won't turn 18 till later this month but he sure looks polished. Fastball is just ok but the secondary stuff looks filthy. On YT there there is Perfect Game footage from two angles. You can see the movement really well from the first video and then get MPH readings on the same pitches on the t.v. footage (the 2nd video). Besides the big hook, he throws a cutter. He throws 3 in a row starting at 2:18 on the top vid, and 2:16 on the second, all clocked 92-94 (batter is Alex Jackson). [video=youtube;Ao0kvgZHauo]
  8. Was the AFL an anomaly? The game I saw Meyer sat 92-94 only touching 96-97 occasionally.
  9. Ya we are mostly amateurs here, some of us more amateur than others. If you see Kolek tipping his curve than you have a better eye than me. I think Callis has him going 2 so there is one pro's opinion. I've read a lot of reports about him but no mention of crossfire. From this angle you can see how far to the right he strides, that's yet another notch in his favor IMO.
  10. LEN3 suggests Parmelee is trying out for a bench spot http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/248683461.html
  11. No. Not if I'm reading this page correctly: http://twinsdaily.com/content.php/2291-Minnesota-Twins-Roster-Payroll-2014 edit: everyone out of options - Presley, Parmelee, Escobar, Plouffe, & Ramirez
  12. Last year Pelfrey was as good as Gibson. Better in fact, sad as that is to type. Also injuries. And Gibson was the #68 prospect! None of the others (Darnell, May, Gilmartin, Deduno, Mayer) is even ranked except Meyer. And this is the 2nd go around on the fringe of a roster for Deduno and Diamond, I don't know what more needs to be said about those two. Mike Pelfrey isn't blocking Taijuan Walker, he's mostly just blocking a bunch of 25-29 year old AAAA talents and handmedowns who I frankly don't want to see, ever.
  13. I agree with your conclusion but I share Thrylos' perception. I probably should have clarified that earlier. Even when Gardy makes up his mind to get ejected, and does his ejection routine, I feel like everyone in the building rolls their eyes and says "here we go again." I doubt the players see it any differently, because even though he gets ejected all the time his players' fire has been questioned for seems like his entire tenure. Whatever Gardy thinks he's selling, nobody seems to be buying. After all these years he just looks sort of desperate and even defeated sometimes. JMO
  14. For once its actually possible to envision a decent pitching scenario -everyone gets through ST healthy and the Twins DFA two losers for the 5th rotation spot -Meyer and/or Gibson and/or May pitch themselves to a June call-up -make a trade or option some guys (Fien) in order to make room for the newcomer(s) That's not too unrealistic really.
  15. Kolek has some pretty serious crossfire in his delivery, approaching Jared Weaver level I'd say. I wouldn't want to be a RHB against him [video=youtube;ZudfEfkzy0Q]
  16. Interesting read. It will be fun to follow how Suzuki, Pinto, Herrmann, et. call for that hammer.
  17. Dozier really looks good. 3 doubles in the two games I've seen. I know ST means "nothing" but it sure looks like those 2nd half adjustments from 2013 are going to stick.
  18. As crazy as it sounds players aren't just exorcising their demons out there. If a hitter showboats after a HR, specifically after a HR on a pitch to the outer half of the plate, what that tells the pitcher is that he's too comfortable up there and needs to be brushed back in order to re-claim the outer half. Its about the mental game within the game, not about whining
  19. Every time I watch Hicks, including today when he scored on a Dozier hit in the 1st inning, I'm stunned by how slow he looks. Makes sense to my eyeballs that range would be Hicks' biggest weakness. edit: inb4 Hicks takes long strides so his slow running is an optical illusion
  20. Its a fair question. A couple possibilities come to mind -fluctuations in repertoire year to year, and in pitch calling sequences. -fluctuations in number of counts and changes in swing% in those counts (esp. 3-2), and pitches called/thrown after getting to those counts. -park factor? Game time? Weather? Extra innings? -different trends by base/out/score?
  21. Tell them to answer in the form of a question, Jeopardy style 1. We gotta play em one day at a time. 2. I'm just happy to be here, hope I can help the ballclub. 3. I just wanna give it my best shot, and the good Lord willing, things will work out
  22. The formula specifically adjusts for pitcher impact. Looks to me like they've made an honest effort to try and address the most common concerns about putting values to pitch framing. Its remarkable to me how little the results waivered from earlier more basic estimates.
  23. I wish there were more Afro American skullets in baseball.
  24. A lot of culture flows from the top down. If the players are lethargic, that's a failing of management too.
