  2. It is a realistic assessment. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/jabo-every-single-team-has-a-chance/ edit: and by realistic, I mean exactly what Ryan said was realistic - a lot has to go right the Twins to make the postseason. Its unlikely, but definitely possible.
  3. Its almost like a ticking time bomb with Hicks and the wall. He just seems to have no bearning of where he is when his feet hit dirt. Eg. Concussion in TB last year. Either that or park his but about 5 feet in front of the track maybe.
  4. They definitely have talent behind Kluber. I think Bauer could be good if he focused on 3-4 pitches instead of the exotic euphuses and screwballs and stuff. Personally I'm not sold on the demise of Verlander just yet. He still threw 200 innings and made 32 starts while recovering from abdomen surgery. If he's over that I would expect a bounceback, although probably not to CYA levels. Of course the Whities could have Carlos Rodon as their FIFTH starter, so there's that.
  5. It does look like the Whities and Tigers are going more a stars-and-scrubs approach while the Indians and Royals seem to be stockpiling slightly above average talents. Still they have some guys who you could see turning into the next superstars by the end of the year.
  6. The Indians' don't have many franchise stars but pretty much the entire roster is in their prime age-wise. They have a ton of good-not-great players.
  7. It looks like D'Arnaud's body, particularly his shoulders, are angled open toward the umpire. Whereas in several of those pics Pinto's shoulders are angled almost 90 degrees the other way. Maybe that's also impairing the ump's line of sight?

  9. I disagree, I think its a solid formula. He's basically halved the plate. Which is why I think his walk and power numbers move inversely. He sits inner half waiting for a pitch to pull, and draws a lot of walks on pitches that won't go there. I wish more Twins batters annexed a portion of the plate like that.
  10. I suspect a lot of those doubles are less a product of lucky ball placement and more a product of Dozier's superior baserunning stretching some singles into doubles. Although speed will certainly decline at some point. The fact remains that whatever infield shift implemented against Dozier is going to have a minimal impact as long as he keeps hitting everything in the air.
  11. Alright, so Dozier needs to pull the ball to succeed. The shift is designed to defend against pulled balls. Therefore shifting Dozier will reduce Dozier's success. I buy that, for ground balls. But Dozier hits all his balls in the air. Unless they park the RFer on the LF line or something, I don't see a lot to worry about for now.
  12. I'm not sure how much I buy that pulling the ball is an end of career signal. Dozier is still 27. The comps in that article - Gomes, Ibanez, Young, are much older. Are we supposed to conclude that because Dozier pulls the ball that he's aging faster than normal? Again, he's 27, should we expect his eye to erode that badly over the next 4-5 years? The point about O-swing% correlating with walk rate is more compelling IMO. Perhaps we should expect a future BB rate closer to 10% (between his '13 and '14 rates), and not 12.6% like he showed last year.
  13. I tend to agree, but to keep it simple I went with an all or nothing choice.
  14. I think the issue is, do the Dodgers expect talent too? If they just want to clear Ethier off the roster, 3/27 seems about right I guess.
  15. You're in Vegas and you must place a $10,000 bet. The league on which you're betting has two baseball teams - the Vets and the Future. They will play 162 games against each other. You're betting on the Vets' win total for the season. Team Vets consists of the Minnesota Twins where Nolasco is chosen instead of Berrios, Pelfrey instead of May, Stauffer instead of Oliveros, Pressly instead of Burdi, Duensing instead of Meyer, Fryer instead of Pinto, Plouffe instead of Sano, Hunter instead of Rosario, and Schafer instead of Buxton. Team Future consists of the Minnesota Twins where Berrios plays instead of Nolasco, May instead of Pelfrey, Oliveros instead of Stauffer, Burdi instead of Pressly, Meyer instead of Duensing, Pinto instead of Fryer, Sano instead of Plouffe, Rosario instead of Hunter, and Buxton instead of Schafer. Which win total do you place your $10,000 bet on?
  16. Fangraphs article on Dozier today http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/locking-up-brian-dozier/
  17. IIRC Rolen had exceptional hands. Can we say the same about Sano? Wait did I just a question about a minor leaguers defense? I'll walk myself out.
  18. Remember when that Baltimore community college beat the Orioles in spring training 2012 and fans joked about how godawful the O's season was going to be? I'm pulling for the Gophs in this one.
  19. The Twins signed Morales with the intent was to flip him at the deadline, as per the rebuild. That was clear from the get-go. Pinto had an option that availed them of the PT required to do that. OK, fine. Why feed us these lines as he's headed out the door? He took one for the team.
  20. I won't be disappointed, because my expectations are low. As Common says, high aspirations, low expectations. It just seems like a ripe opoprtunity IMO for the 20 year pro to, I dunno, take the talented fat kid out to lunch. Show him how to eat on the road and not put on weight. Staying in shape after his body slows down seems like something that Torii has figured out.
  21. Well the answer is obvious. If Pinto wants to catch he needs tank at the plate completely. .550 OPS max. Because all catchers who hit that badly are automatically defensive wizards.
  22. Fyer 1/16 CS last year. What was he up for? I get the feeling this club just doesn't like Pinto.
  23. And Fryer, Herrmann, etc. did?
