  1. Really? Wow. Its hard for me to imagine a worse place to go when sick than a freaking school. Maybe the Subway, or an airport. Doesn't it bother you to think that, if you infect even one person, and they in turn infect more, exponentially, that somewhere down the line there could be a serious, potentially deadly consequence? Or am I just a hypochondriac?
  2. Its almost like he's in the doghouse, but who knows for sure. Maybe they want him to see the AA coach or something.
  3. Yeah my grandma has shingles and it ****ing sucks. Wouldn't it be cool if we could just eradicate shingles?
  4. First base?
  5. Two stories. Retired priest of a church I worked at some years ago got old, bed-stricken. Regular visitors from parishioners. Last winter he died. The cause? Flu. What are the odds some parishioner who didn't get their flu shot gave him the flu, and killed him. I'd bet better than 50/50. Second story. Co-worker of mine came in sick one day. Coughing like death. Spitting, sneazing. I told her "You're sick. Would you go home please so I don't get sick." Her reply, " I haven't missed a day of work in 9 years." Wouldn't you know it the entire frikin office caught her sumo-cold. Knocked everyone out for 2-3 days, to a man (one or two may have been opportunists). Well over 100 hours of productivity down the drain because one selfish moron wouldn't use a sick day to at least attempt to quarantine her virus.
  6. Has he supported birth control yet? Everyone should be able to agree on the benefits of planned parenthood (one benefit would be fewer abortions), but the church (last I knew) still hasn't budged on condoms or, every guys favorite, IUDs.
  7. Did we watch the same guy? I saw him flail at off speed stuff in the dirt the same way Vargas has. .501 OPS
  8. After watching Hicks, Vargas, and now Buxton struggle in their callups, I don't know why you'd not funnel every batting prospect through AAA first. Let them face Tommy Milone on his optional assignment before they embarass themselves against front line starters in the bigs.
  9. On the other hand the batters who should benefit most from a fringy arm are your Lorenzo Cain, Adam Eaton rabbit types. Guys you really want to keep of the bases. Still, it does seem like our understanding of the exact value of SS arm strength, and really shortstop defense in general, is lagging. Can't wait for more Statcast data to compile and enlighten us.
  10. Raise the legal age for buying a gun to 25. Who says no? No new restrictions on automatics, magazine size, etc and no problem with inheriting guns or using them legally. Simply keeps the testosterone raging youths from buying one until they are a little older, little mellower and less likely to commit a crime with one. edit: Buying, not owning.
  11. The NRA is powerful because gun owners are politically active and there are a lot of gun owners. If non-gun owners want to organize similarly, that's their right. Lobbying is part of the system, its all about who has the gumption to go do it.
  12. Yeah, he's a slinger. Not a problem IMO. Release points looks pretty consistent. He gets good lateral movement on all his pitches, the changeup especially looked good in that session. He does have easy, almost sneaky velo on the fastball.
  13. IMO the best deals in trade are for the not-yet established guys early on their arb clock or the half year rentals like this, even if they are in line for a QO. Peavy was had for pretty cheap last year for example. The really expensive players seem to be in the 1.5 year range, eg. Cespedes, Price.
  14. That's what they did last time but Robinson's probably better suited as a bench option no? Pinch runner / defensive sub. And he's not a LH bat which is where they badly need help. On deck is Lohse, Garza, ?, then 3 righthanded Reds starters.
  15. Its gotta be a LH bat, OFer to give Torii time off. Certainly can't be Arcia so I reckon Kepler gets the call. edit: or Hicks?
  16. Nunez has been stinging the ball lately but he's clearly overmatched at SS. I think the eye test and stats are in agreement on that one.
  17. Why does he stink this year? Injury? What happened?
  18. 6/19 side session. Pretty good look at his 4 pitches
  19. My folks like Bobby Jindal. What's the knock on him? He doesn't seem to be considered a legit candidate this time.
  20. Coke, no. We have one Duensing already.
  21. I wonder what it would take to get Siegrist from the Cards.
  22. This kid was 21, right at the peak of the age-crime curve. Maybe the simplest solution to "gun violence" is to raise the legal age for purchasing a firearm to 25 or so.
  23. Does anyone think if Brian Dozier dropped to 9 he'd OPS under .600? Byron Buxton is the worst batter on the team until he proves otherwise. Let him bat his way up the lineup.
  24. Good to hear. Does he go by Al?
  25. Fulmer 7.2 IP, 2 H, 0R 2BB 8K against Virginia in CWS yesterday...
