  1. OK so just to recap, here is how the Twins rotation has worked out lately. Starter Date Days Rest Milone 2-Sep 5 Gibson 3-Sep 5 Pelfrey 4-Sep 5 Santana 5-Sep 5 Duffey 6-Sep 4 Milone 7-Sep 4 Gibson 8-Sep 4 Pelfrey 9-Sep 4 Santana 11-Sep 5 Milone 12-Sep 4 Gibson 13-Sep 4 Duffey 14-Sep 7 Hughes 15-Sep *6 Santana 16-Sep 4 Milone 17-Sep 4 Peflrey is scheduled to pitch today on 8 days rest. He will be followed by Gibson (5) and Duffey (5). Hughes would be scheduled for the Sept-22 game but with an off day on the 21st the Twins can keep everyone on 5 days rest for one more turn through the rotation. Hughes will be available from the pen this weekend however I believe the plan is to re-insert him into the rotation for the 9/27 start at DET and the 10/3 start against KC. This is based on what I recall Molitor telling Provus on the radio. If that's the case Hughes will most likely be unavailable from the pen for the 9/25-9/26 games against the Tigers.
  2. Provus said during the game yesterday that Hughes would be "available" out of the pen this weekend. Not sure if that means his role has changed or not. In other news, Nolasco is going to be starting simulated games in Ft Myers. All acounts are he has worked hard to rehab the ankle injury.
  3. His 2014 ISO was .131 which was right in line with his career. And through July this year it was .138. I want to believe he went Jose Bautista on us too. But, barring any specific identifiable change, it seems more likely he just went Danny Santana.
  4. You could have anticipated. The guy who cut diary out of his diet gave his teammate a kiss and broke a scapula. edit: "cracked," sorry.
  5. Escobar has 57 HRs and 306 walks in almost 5000 major- and minor- league PAs. What is he doing differently since Aug 1? I would be very curious to read about some adjustment he has made that I'm just not seeing. Otherwise I fear we could be in for some Santana type regression, esp. in the power dept.
  6. His at bats just look so haphazard to me. But, the stats don't like, Escobar has been very productive this year. I doubt his ability to keep it up but would love if he did.
  7. His RISP and vs. LHP production is basically at his career norms this year. Could there be something about hitting against RHPs throwing from the windup?

  9. The Comcast feed from Chicago was fun to listen to. Total deflation from Hawk. He really fawns over some Twins players tho, esp Hunter. I love how the Twins own Sale and the Whites in general lately.
  10. Heh. MN state legislators make $31,140. I interned for one of them in college. That's a hard job! (So was the legislator's). GDP of Minnesota is 255 billion. GE has a market cap of 247 billion. Governor of Minnesota makes 119k. CEO of GE makes 18.7 million.
  11. $174k salary for Congressmen, $400k for the friggin president. No wonder real people aren't interested in those jobs. But you would have an easier time selling water to a drowning man than steep Congressional raises to any electorate.
  12. I read it, and I understand the difference between accuracy and precision. The difference in baseball is that you have a bullseye that moves along the periphery of a rectangular target instead of a conventional circle inside concentric circles which could be more *accurately* used to describe the degree of accuracy. With a strikezone you have to assume the pitcher can control the direction he misses his target in order for the grade to have any meaning. I don't believe there's any evidence that's the case over a large enough sample.
  13. I'm really not trying to be difficult. There's something I'm not getting across. The control-command distinction suggests to me that a pitcher has a say in the direction he misses his target which seems wrong for a couple reasons. One, even if a pitcher missed to a certain side - say he was opening up early and missing high and to the arm side. That will miss for a strike and miss for a ball depending on where the catcher is setting up and depending on the handedness of the batter. But more likely, IMO, is that the misfires are random in direction and the only consistency is how far away from the target the pitcher misses. And since a catcher always sets up on one corner of the zone (and never outside it) this is almost entirely captured by BB and K rates and can be described simply as "control" or "command" along one scale.
  14. Again, what if I aim for the same target and hit a bunch of double 17s on the other side of the board while you are hitting single 1s and 5s right around the triple 20. I win, you lose. But who has the better command/control?
  15. What if the catcher was setting targets under the batter's hands?
  16. Yeah I know you were. I'm annoyed by it because all I've ever seen the distinction do is introduce an unhelpful level of semantics. If I'm wrong then I'd welcome an example where the distinction is actually useful.
  17. The distinction implies that pitchers can throw strike after strike after strike and somehow have lousy command and vice versa, throw a ball outside of the zone on purpose but have no control. Its stupid. Does the ball end up where the pitcher is trying to throw it or not? In other words, what are his K and BB rates? 90% of "command" or "control" or whatever you want to call it will be captures by those two stats.
  18. Its one of those things scouts made up because it makes them feel important. Like the idea of "bat speed." Funny, no one ever considers "bat weight" or "bat length" in that equation. Not to mention swing mechanics. "Control" and "command" are the same thing, you can use both interchangeably.
  19. Yeah, I think that's the difference. He hasn't been able to command the splitter since early August.
  20. Buxton's going to need a good long optional assignment in 2016 so I would not trade anyone right now. They'll have room in a corner for Arcia then Kepler if necessary. As for Rosario, Sickels wrote a piece on him last week and said he thinks Rosario's operating at the upper boundary of his talents, based on his rough approach. Its hard to disagree although staying at this boundary would mean we're talking about a 2-3 Win player. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/9/3/9244289/minor-league-ball-mailbag-can-eddie-rosario-of-the-twins-improve Also this if it wasn't posted already. That HR off Josh Tomlin a couple weeks back was remarkable: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/a-home-run-that-must-be-discussed/
  21. Go R. Vinci!
  22. I've started thinking that the Fireman role should be reincarnated. I don't really know what the original purpose of the Fireman was (or if it was even defined) but this time, define it as a one out, strikeout guy. Or a OOSG. Maybe Meyer can be that guy for the Twins and help with the Inherited runners scoring problem while limiting the exposure to walks. edit: what nicksaviking said
  23. What is your point?
