  1. Buxton was recalled first on 6/14, then DL'ed for the thumb (head first slide) on 6/25 (11 days). Activated in July and optioned to AAA. Recalled for the 2nd time on 8/19 where he remained for the rest of the season (46 days). So 57 days total. The Twins start 2016 on Apr 4, so Buxton would need to stay in AAA until at least June 1 to push his first FA season back to 2022. That assumes he isn't optioned again after his recall. Keeping him in Rochester until July 10 would delay arbitration until 2019, assuming the Super 2 cutoff is 2.130 days. And again assuming he isn't optioned again. Is that correct?
  2. The concussion is worrisome but the flipside is that drives down the price, no? If he rebounds he would be a strong QO candidate.
  3. I think you're pretty much right. Question - if Buxton were on the table, would he be in tier #1 or a tier of his own?
  4. Agree. I think we can pencil in Hughes for 30 starts, 175 IP at about 100 ERA+. Similar for Gibson (maybe a more starts/IP as he stays in better shape). Santana is probably good for 30/200/100. That's three #4 type starters. Berrios could be a stud but should probably stay off the 40 man until May / super 2 deadline / injury opens a spot for him. Duffey looks good but realistically looks like a poor man's Jake Peavy (another #4). Nolasco's body can't stand up to a starting job anymore. He seems like an obvious RH breaking ball specialist successor to Fien IMO. May probably deserves another chance but the team should not be burning starts on long shots anymore IMO. We know he is a strong bullpen choice. The bullpen is weak. Leaving him there would be a fine use for him right now. That leaves one rotation opening for a front of the rotation arm. Perhaps the Twins can send a package of prospects for a Salazar / Carrasco / Strasburg type. That would leave them with strong SP pitching depth and plenty of payroll to add another BP arm/catcher.
  5. Option 1. The game has gotten younger and the Twins have an abundance of youth. I would try like hell to keep Berrios out of any trade, but pretty much everyone else should be on the table IMO.
  6. Some NL team will pony up for him I think because his bat plays so well for a pitcher.
  7. "I could play for the worst team if they paid the most." -Zach Greinke
  8. Its impossible to pin 100% of Mauer's decline on any one thing. The concussion might make up a significant portion of it, but it seems reasonable that an expanding strike zone, proliferation of batted ball data, outfield shifts and the like have all conspired against Mauer whose approach is fairly simplistic. He will have to adjust. I'm hopeful that based on the second half of 2015 he is at least figuring out the strike zone again.
  9. The ESPN radio announcers said Ethier was unloading on Mattingly in the dugout. I assume it was related to this decision. Was that shown on the TV broadcast too?
  10. The distinction you're looking for is live ball vs. dead ball. The ball is live unless/until its ruled foul, and that ruling isn't made unless/until the ball lands in foul ground. If its caught, the ball remains live.
  11. Just want to thank Chief one more time for hosting. Thanks Chief! Oh and the prize, holy crap folks. Remember those old Mastercard commercials? "Priceless" doesn't do this thing justice.
  12. Similar IsoD and ISO but a .030 point difference in BABIP.
  13. I'll concede that there exists a preacher-choir echo chamber in human groups that can and is used for political gain. But there are a dozen alternatives to Trump's (and more yet in the Dem party) and yet his is the most popular. IMO this speaks to the state of the R base in 2015.
  14. I think everyone agrees that if there's a good deal for Plouffe out there, then its worth gambling on Sano's glove at 3B. Even if the return are prospects. The question is, what's a good deal? Personally I would want more than a single prospect in A ball as in the Doug M. or D. Span trades.
  15. I agree except with this point. If the xenophobic, racist, sexist things Trump says causes him to lead in polls, that points to a problem with the base, not leadership.
  16. Yeah I would try like hell to hang onto Berrios. I really think we are due for a pitching prospect to pan out and I get a tingly feeling that he could be The One.
  17. How did Obama win the Dem nomination in 2008 and then go on to beat McCain? He promised 95% of Americans a tax cut.
  18. I agree the GOP field is a joke but the reason is because its gotten distracted with Arabs, gays, and immigrants while actually becoming the party of out of control spending. It needs to return to its ideals of fiscal responsibility and tax cuts, not abandon them.
  19. Poor sportsmanship IMO, and it spoiled a great moment.
  20. Would've been funny if the umps had called Pompey for the Posey rule and awarded Tex a double play in the bottom half of the inning.
  21. Top of the 7th, 18 minute delay? Sounds like Canadians trying to delay last call.
  22. If Clinton wins, who's in her cabinet? Does she ask Obama and/or Biden to fill spots? Bill? A Miami Heat team of political all stars?
  23. Thanks for hosting Chief!
  24. He had a point though. It seemed like just as anyone got to an actual point (it wasn't just Webb), Anderson Cooper blew the whistle. Seemed overly rigid IMO.He actually said "you agreed to the rules" at some point. Honestly, who gives a damn about the clock. We all know the closing statements are rehearsed a billion times so if you have to cut those out bfd.
  25. Alright, I'll try to answer my own question here. Padres hire Gardy. Gardy wants some clubhouse / leader type to help him ease into his new job. He pulls a few strings and next thing you know, TR calls AJ Preller and asks about swapping Suzuki for Austin Hedges. Preller wants to send back Kemp, TR counters with Nolasco. Gardy vetoes. OK then, TR offers Santana but wants Shields instead of Kemp. Gardy approves, ownership approves, Gardy rides his new Crestliner around the Baja Peninsula and arrives at Spring Training red-faced and ready to rock with Suzuki as his co-pilot.
