  1. Isn't that the Fed's job? (2nd part)
  2. So you're saying Santana didn't win the AL batting title? Seems likely he regressed more than he should have. Something like .270/.300/.370 next year seems reasonable if he can fix that swing. His roster spot ought to be safe safe.
  3. I would be all in favor of a 1000000% pay raise for important public offices like President, to make some of that truding through the muck worthwhile and attract better candidates.
  4. I wish her record at HP were better but I think many people would prefer someone with a lousy business background than one with no business background, which describes everyone else in the field except Kasich and Trump. Kasich was at Lehman Bros in 2008 and Trump has filed 4 bankruptcies and cost the taxpayer millions for personal gain. She is the best of the few options there are with respect to business acumen IMO.
  5. I'm not going to go through all the trades but some of tho prospects have debuted already in the bigs - Wojciechowski and Rollins just from that 7 player package.
  6. They sent Jeff Hoffman, who was at one time considered a top 3 pick. He's like the 4th first/supplemental pick AA has traded away since he took over. Maybe they have drafted really well in later rounds but I know they don't have many first rounders left. They sent another to Houston (along with six other prospects) and the main piece in that deal was J.A. Happ (whom they flipped for Michael Saunders). Then there is the Dickey trade obviously. How good would the Jays have been with D'Arnaud, Syndergaard, and the 85m they spent on Martin?
  7. I wish TR were more aggressive too but AA is overaggressive. He's gutted the Jays system and sent quite a few high picks to other teams for nothing in return, with the exception of Donaldson obviously.
  8. Fiorina could be a force IMO. She is candid enough and sane enough but needs to stay on point with cutting taxes and spending, and steer away from foreign policy where she is too inexperienced to sound so hawkish. She is the only one who has a prayer of beating Clinton IMO.
  9. I tried watching the debate, it was too painful and I had to turn it off shortly after the tax questions. Memo to Republicans. Don't get into longwinded speeches about how you're going to trim the 70,000 page tax code down to 3 pages, or how you're going to do a flat tax but oh it will probably be 15% not 10%, or maybe 28% if you want to balance the budget, and we'll have to close loopholes and apply it to capital gains to make it work... Nobody cares how you cut taxes, just cut them. That's what you're supposed to be about.
  10. That's an interesting way of looking at that part of catcher defense. An extra base is an extra base, whether it comes on a SB, PB, or WP.
  11. "Cybermetrics"
  12. Right I think he meant trade price, I know I did. The Mets have Conforto, Lugares, Granderson, and are reportedly interested in bringing back Cespedes. They could roll with those 4 plus Cuddy but that might overkill and probably would push a guy like Nieuwenheis out of the picture.
  13. Same thought occurred to me as I was watching the game last night. Seems like a decent buy low option who might help fill a leadership void while accepting part-time duty.
  14. 6/144 is what Tim Dierkes (MLBTR) predicts.
  15. Its a moot point, the Twins are not signing Davis for the 100m+ he is going to command. Byung-ho Park on the other hand...
  16. I'm gonna go out on a limb and figure Rosenthal is one of those fans who loves to criticise cybermetrics without really understanding them.
  17. Again, 17 WAR in 589 games vs 15.8 in 710 Age 29 vs age 30. 3 years control vs 2. That should go a long way toward wiping out any scarcity advantage. I do agree the Twins got ripped off.
  18. I don't think so. Greinke interviewed about the hard CH on FG and Felix has been famous for his for a while now. edit: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/what-zack-greinke-learned-from-felix-hernandez-exactly/
  19. That seems more reasonable IMO, and definitely one I would be in favor of.
  20. I'd hesitate to lump in framing with hitting since a lot of people didn't acknowledge framing as a thing until recently, including Suzuki. Some still don't acknowledge it. If Zuke hadn't even practiced framing before last spring, which seems likely, then it seems unfair to assume he'll regress as he would hitting or other parts of his game. Perhaps what he put up last season is the new mean? Not to mention, he caught 8800 pitches last season so the stat would seem more reliable than a ~500 sample of hitting, at first glance anyway.
  21. I get that. But 29 y/o CFers don't grow on trees either. And Span was coming off a 5 WAR season (as opposed to 1.5), had more team control, was younger, etc. Seems like maybe people are overcompensating for the unrealistic Duensing for Chapman wishful thinking type trades.
  22. Some of these price tags seem a little high. Lucroy is a nice player but he's probably not going to be that special in his age 30-31 seasons. Compare him to Denard Span for example, who had accumulated more WAR in fewer games, was a year younger, played a premium defensive position, had the same concussion concern, and was under control for 3 years (as opposed to two) and was traded for a single top ~75 prospect in A ball. Shouldn't Lucroy's price tag be comparable to that?
  23. Zuke was a worse framer in prior years but put in a lot of work with the coaches last spring. This was well documented on the early season pre-game shows on GO. I hope its safe to assume they would coach up Pierzynski too to where he is at least not a complete liability framing-wise.
  24. An amazing career really. I only wish 100% of it was as a Twin.
  25. I mean, file this under "impossible to please," but after the initial sequence the story became so lighthearted that the ending never really felt in doubt. The only real intrigue was how to handle the PR / political fallback from having left a man on Mars. In the actual escape several key details seemed to be glossed over.
