  1. Hindsight is always 20/20, but that trade for Lopez will always look really odd. You gave up 4 prospects for a reliever who had had half of a season of success under his belt. No one saw Cano doing what he did, but Povich looks like a solid #3 SP right now at AAA and that’s without mentioning either of the young fliers who were also thrown into the trade. Huge overpay at the time and it looks more awful every day.
  2. Well yes and no. Ronny Henriquez replaced his spot on the roster for now to add some bullpen depth. But it’ll most likely be SWR replacing his spot in the rotation for now as he’s on the 40 and has shown some promise so far this year.
  3. How about a mention for Paxton Thompson an STMA graduate and close friend of mine right here in Minnesota?!
  4. I didn’t realize that, good information to have on hand. I had to look up how the minor league Rule 5 draft differed from the MLB one! I actually followed him relatively closely last year as he seemed to be a top performer throughout the year for AA Wichita. You never know who will get their chance at the MLB level and they obviously selected him in the Rule 5 for a reason so I wouldn’t be so quick to rule him out of their future plans (especially if injuries incur at a high rate). .305 AVG .375 OBP .446 SLG .821 OPS
  5. I mean Keuchel pitched in 10 games last year so what if that went to Dobber this year? I don’t think anything would have gone off the rails necessarily if that happens except for some injuries here and there and some spot starts needed throughout the dog days of summer.
  6. It’ll end up being around a 60/40 split next year between Jeffers and Vasquez. There is still plenty of value to have a solid veteran catcher on the roster even if he is being overpaid.
  7. Not everyone loves analytics, but these numbers aren’t pulled out of a hat “old timer”. The Playoff Odds are based on our Depth Charts, which is a 50/50 Steamer and ZiPS blend scaled to individual playing time estimates programmed and updated by the FanGraphs staff. We then simulate the season 10,000 times (using the actual remaining schedule) using a method adapted from the folks at CoolStandings. If you don’t like our projections, you can also switch to “Season to Date” mode which runs the same simulations based on the current year statistics of the players in question rather than the projections. You can also view the results based on simulations which assume every game is a coin flip.
  8. They may have gotten Giolito if they even put a claim in for him and wanted him to pitch out of the bullpen or maybe take up a spot in the rotation while Maeda and DK piggyback. It isn't likely that the Twins would have got Lopez or Moore at all. It is obviously impossible though because Cleveland claimed them both first. I guess that is my point in its entirety.
  9. I mean 5% is 5%. The series next week pretty much decides that for the division, however, that doesn't change the overall numbers or the chances of the Guardians making the playoffs. These moves might swing their chances by a percent or two, but it doesn't change the Guardians' opponents for the rest of the season or the Twins' opponents for the rest of the season.
  10. They very well could be lol. Mike, I understand your position and opinions, and I appreciate your responses!
  11. And I respect your opinion. Thank you for being civil my friend. This hurts so much more after the loss yesterday afternoon...
  12. 5% chance...I thought Cleveland was a smart organization? I guess the trade deadline was a fluke too.
  13. Were they or were they not ahead of the Twins in the waiver order? That is in and of itself enough to warrant claims over the Twins. Especially all three pitchers who would have been on the Twins’ radar.
  14. With a 5% chance to win the division? This is just as much as them spiting the Twins as it is them thinking they have a chance of winning the division. They sold at the trade deadline for a reason.
  15. Let me just say that this did not age that well...the Guardians did this to spite the Twins and give them a fighting chance at winning the division.
  16. Replace Yankees with Guardians and see what you get. Why would the Yankees waste money and lose a 40 man spot just to spite someone? That's silly.
  17. Was this you yesterday? I guess I should have added the Guardians to my list... Uh me? If the Twins are out of the playoff hunt, I'd rather them audition the young guys and angle for draft position. Fans are way more petty about rivalries than the teams are. Some fans apparently, not most fans.
  18. Ever heard of the 60-day IL?
  19. Well what is that money to the owner 1, and 2, why wouldn't you as an owner want that for your rival anyways? If the Twins had the chance to do this to the White Sox, who on this website wouldn't be clamoring for them to spite the fricken White Sox?
  20. As if the Yankees wouldn't do this? (Side note, they already have done it in the past.) The Padres have wildly underperformed their expectations so why wouldn't Preller claim some guys as a last-ditch effort? Obviously, money isn't a concern for either of these teams.
  21. You really wouldn't put that past the Yankees...claiming someone so that the Red Sox do not get them? When has money EVER been a problem with the Yankees? If you were them, why wouldn't you give up a couple of million dollars so your lifelong division rival doesn't get the RP they want for their possible postseason run?
  22. D-Backs, Reds, Marlins, and Red Sox are all behind them in the standings. Padres and Yankees can claim guys so that their division rivals come up empty. There are plenty of teams ahead of the Twins and the best players will most likely be gone at their position. So if you only take 2-3 shots, the chances of those guys falling to them are slim to none.
  23. You might as well claim every single one of them and then figure out what happens from there. Do not pick and choose because you might be left with nothing at the end of the day. The obvious goal would be to get one additional BP arm and a right-handed corner OF to hit in the middle of the order against lefties.
  24. Boy do you love arguing with people. Jax faced the 9, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 hitters. He got one of their 1-5 hitters out while giving up a triple and two home runs, so yes I do think it matters.
  25. He pitched in the 6th, hence lower leverage than Jax in the 7th. My point is to get Jax out of high leverage situations altogether right now because he has literally been terrible.
