  1. Saying someone who has played in literally thousands of games lacks expeirence is less than dumb
  2. Play the kids. No Masterson. May in the rotation. No Cola.Pamalee is more versatile and a little power, or Nunez. But audition Rosario, Buck and Sano to see if they can break camp with the big club. Mid season call ups more likely. Berrios in the pen, along with Reed and/or Bordi. Cut Milone and Pelfrey.
  3. I think we go all in for the kids. Santana to SS, with Eduardo being a super sub to keep everyone in the IF fresh. Shafe in LF and Hicks in CF should solidify the OF defense. Arcia can improve. But for me, Reed and Burdi are ready. I mean, what more does Reed have to prove. 30 IP and one ER? These guys were top flight on top college staffs. Let em play. Bring Meyer up as teh 5th SP too. Go for it. Give them all a year to get acclimated, and add Sano and Bux in July. i say let the kids play.
  4. I wouldn't keep Milone. He has no fastball. If Hughes is a SP-1, you have to ask can he match up with other SP-1s in a low scoring 1-0 playoff game? Meyer should go north with the club. I'd flip Escobar and Santana. If Santana is your SS of the future, then play him there. Hicks gets one more chance, then its on to Bux. Or sign Torii as a LF for his leadership value and move Shafe to CF. I'd say bye to Parmalee. There has to be a slow pitch softball team somewhere Sign Shields. On MLB they were talking about what a leader/teacher he is for the young guys.
  5. People go to the ballpark hopng to see the Twins WIN. I think the Pohlads are stingy, sure. But I don't believe for a second that Terry was asking for more high salary free agents, and Dave and Jim shot him down. Terry Ryan is by nature a conservative general manager, a garage sale guy. He looks for bargain basement players. That is NOT how to build a winner. Gardy wasn't soem genius that ownership did dirty. He played favorites. He spurned the kids in favor of his Kubel and Bartlet retreads. Ownership gave $23 million a year to a glorified singles hitter who is not a leader. It spent way too much on long shots like Pelfrey. This combination of stingy ownership, conservative GM and old school Gardy was a disaster. The proof is in the standings. They talk about loyalty. How about loyalty to the fans that want a contender? Twins need to have a salary level of $115 million to compete. You get what you pay for. Twins need to sign free agents that are winners. Not just a bunch of mediocre placeholders. The reason the Twins won two world series is that the roster was populated by winners like Rat, Hrbek, Kirby, Gagne and Gladden, Baylor, Winfield, and Bruno. Guys that you expectred something to happen when they came up with runners on base. And they had invested in top level pitching, Bert, Viola, Erickson, Morris.... Taps would be the best pitcher on the staff today.. Jim Pohlad better wake up. And Terry Ryan will never go out and sign a Price level SP. He is just too much of a garage sale GM. It is as if Calvin Griffith was still running the team.
  6. Cant see keeping Milone. His fastball can't break a pane of glass
  7. I say let the kids play. Fans would much rather watch exciting rookies than old washed up vets. SPs Hughes, Gibby, May, Meyer and Rickey Santana SS Mauer 1B Vargas DH Sano 3B Arcia RF Bux CF Dozier 2B Suze C Shafe LF. If we get Torii, he hits 2nd and move everybody down a spot Eduardo and Plouffe and Shafe (if we get Torii) bench bats
  8. Ahhh There's the rub. They can languish and watch revenue drop, or use the fact that they have cash and go get a #1 starter. That equates to season tix renewals and at least a plus 12 - 15 game rise in the standings. Making a 75 win season possibly into a 90 win season. And a leader in the rotation makes everyone else better as well. In other words, they need to find a Jack Morris type FA. They are rare but out there. I like Lester or Max. They will come at retail prices, but you get what you pay for.Price is high retail.
  9. Gardy is washed up. He doesn't handle pitchers well. He can't relate to the young guys, so he fell back to his comfort zone of old retreads, Matt, Jason and Jason. It is wayyy past time for a change. That being said, we have a team that is totally devoid of leaders. That includes Joe big contract Mauer. In the past glory years we had plenty of leaders. Kirby, Rat, Danny, and Hrbek and remember Groove came on in 87 and Winfield? Rent a winner. These were all guys that found a way to win. I don't thimk the front office even looks for guys like that anymore. Too busy managing the bottom line. Do you suppose that Andy Mac leaving was because he foresaw present ownership planned on running the Twins like a business, instead of a competitive team? How Calvinesq? The guys on this current roster look at called third strikes like they've been bribed. Its as if they want someone else to do it. That is when they aren't swinging at idiot pitches and getting picked off base. Nobody makes it happen on this team, except for Kurt and Dozier. Plouffe sometimes. Every time Suze comes up with RISP, I expect something to happen. And many of you called for the Twins to trade the one guy who plays like a winner. But teaching a winning culture comes from the manager. This guy is just putting in his time. The Twins players reflect that. The game has passed Gardy by. So we should say "Bye"
  10. wll, his last 5 outings have been better than solid
  11. "Maybe the Twins need to hire a young, Latin coach who could speak to them in a language they understand. The present situation doesn't seem to be working." They did, with Morales.
  12. I disagree completely with this article. Trading Hughes, who is the Twins best SP for a prospect that may never see the Show is insane. Trading Suzuki when Pinto is not ready is also unwise. Kurt has shown he is a leader and a money player. Those guys are rare. Trading the Hammer when he has such a good contract is iffy. With Plouffe out we need a RH power hitter. Plus he is motivated and hitting well. The Twins need to trim dead wood and bring up young arms. Burton and Corria must go, even if DFA. Sammy to the pen. Pino and May come up. Dozier is a long term answer at 2B or maybe SS. Plouffe will replace Hammer when Sano is ready. The Twins are losing contact by caring more about control and time in service for later than they are about winning now. In my mind, they have squandered away a chance to contend. They should play to win each game, not trot out a guy that is going to get hammered just because he is under contract and pitches a lot of innings. A lot of bad innings is no way to win. Rickey is a #4 starter at this point. The rotation should be Hughes, Gibby, May, Pino and Nolasco
  13. He should go up there looking for pitches he can hit to right field and then drive them that way.
  14. They ARE pitching him outside more, but that is only part of it. He is trying to pull everything, even outside pitches. He should hit those pitches to right field. That would give him more time on his swing and would put the sweet spot on the ball as he drives the ball the other way. Trying to pull an outside pitch actually pulls the bat away from the ball, and if you hit it at all, it will be off the end of the bat.
