    OK, so you like Mejia. But a quality 4/5 starter does not compute. He is POTENTIALLY a starter. He gets a spot start today. I hope he does well. But he needs to earn a spot and the label that you gave him. I still consider him a minor leaguer on a call up, not a proven starter. But I also hope I am wrong.

    Molly plays favorites. That I can tell you. Fair criticism, that. But no manager wins this year with all these injuries. Still, it doesn't look like he inspires the troops.

    My candidate was Mike Redmond. He had fire, the savvy of a catcher and loves the Twins organization. I talked to Mike one day a couple years back when he was in town for a couple of his son, Ryan's, games. This was before he got the short Miami gig. He would have loved to skipper the Twins. If he would have gotten an offer he would have said yes before the offer was out of St Peter's mouth.

    I am not down on the FO. They plugged holes, added decent pitching and had to roll with the punches. All a FO can do is put players in position to succeed. They don't guarantee good play. Sano's leg, Buck's toe, Erv's hand, Polanco's suspension, Castro's injury, man that is a lot to overcome for a team that barely made the WC last year. Molitor's managing.... his love for a mediocre Grossman and inexplicable going away from a red hot Lamarre coming out of spring training made no sense to me. Molly sat LaMarre until he cooled off.... in favor of Grossman, who never was hot and runs bases like a blind man. I don't understand ignoring MaGill when he was effective while burning out Press, Duke, Hildy and Rogers. Molly is as stubborn and plays favorites just as much as Gardy, and the playing favorites things was Gardy's downfall. Aside from not taking Molly to the manager woodshed, I don't have a problem with the FO. The jury is still out. But lets see how they handle the deadline moves.

    Last offseason proved that we are in a falling market. I don't think we get the return we got with Nunez. And Mejia has not helped the club much really. Nunez has been an All Star and a starter. I think you are discounting the known factor versus unknown prospect. EE is worth a lot more than a prospect, but for a 3 month rental, I doubt we get anything close to even Mejia.

    Exactly what I am saying. These guys are ballplayers first and millionaires second. Show EE the love and see what happens.

    For a three month rental you don't get that great of a prospect. And I don't believe you get EE back if you trade him. So I think the idea of getting both EE and a prospect is remote, not a given.

    Thanks for the pic of my friend Jimmy. BTW, Jimmy was a really gentle guy in real life. A Jersey boy. He got such a kick out of playing a badass. So sad that he passed so young.

    Underlying the basic question is the little known fact that the Twins have a lot of really good middle infielders. Polanco, Gordon, and Adrianza are major league ready. Then others in the pipeline. So that detracts from the urgency to do something. Both EE and Doze get QOs. Those afraid of getting nothing to show for it, remember, a QO gets you a draft pick. A trade gets you about that too....although the prospect you get in a trade may be further along. A guy, even a good guy, who will play for you for three months only... maybe.... is not worth all that much. But I don't know, can the Twins only give one QO?

    Mike, in answer.... I would do everything I could to extend, even throw in a lake home. Then I would ask around if he wants to be traded, sure. I'd talk to him about it and let it be his choice is he wants to go FA instead of sign the extension. I'd ask if he had any team in mind he may want to go to, and I'd try to put him there. If that doesn't pan out, I would make a QO and take the draft pick. . But, its a tough question. For both sides. I think Eduardo knows there are talented middle infielders coming up. Polanco, Gordon etc. That is three players for 2 spots, and that doesn't include Uhire, who becomes the IF bench next year....or maybe not. Though none of the kids hit like EE (except for Polanco late last year). But its a crowd, even with Dozier likely gone. In MLB, unless your name is Jeter, you would have to compete every year anyway. I actually think he might welcome the competition. But I'd let him tell me what he wants. Then I'd act accordingly if possible.

    So I am in the "extend, don't trade" group. Obviously. He has earned a raise and a promotion.

    First of all, all "29 teams" don't think like a monolithic body. That is why some teams always seem to emerge as contenders, and others don't. So that dog won't hunt. I don't think drooling is the right word, plus I am not saying he wouldn't make the best of things if traded. But I think guys like him would like to be shown appreciation while they are still with us. That shouldn't be such a hard thing to understand. So I'll put you down in the "trade him, trade him, trade him" column. But I am saying not every [player is only about money. And loyalty is a door that swings both ways.

    I know it from the way he is on the field, and the respect his team mates show for him. Watch the games. See the bench. See Eduardo every time he hits a double. He has replaced Dozier as the team leader. Guys who are team leaders would prefer to stay. I am betting they offer him a starting job and an extension.

    You don't know that. You are just spin doctoring. Eduardo is a family first guy. Like Mauer, who took much less money to play here. You assume all players think the same and that it is always about money. That is where you fail to understand loyalty. I think Eduardo would like to test the FA market, sure. But not having to bother would be nice. And he would look favorably at an extension offer for market value right now.

    1) Yes it is. 2) You don't know that. You are just spinning. Eduardo is one of those guys who appreciates loyalty.

    I'm not saying it does. But treating people like cattle does little to make them wanna play for your organization. Treating them like a valuable member of the family is what loyalty is about. And loyalty is a door that swings both ways. When players earn a raise and promotion, give it to them. And do it in a way that they feel good about it for more than monetary reasons. This organization needs to become a place where players want to come. We are no longer Calvin Griffith's plantation.
