  1. Twins gave up on Burdi, possibly thinking his injury concerns outweighed his potential. Kinley has good stuff and they must think they can cut down on his walks by tinkering with his mechanics. Maybe they think it is a release point issue or over striding etc.Whatever the reason, they are giving him a shot. But he is definitely on the bubble, and knows it.
  2. I dunno. A fastball in the high 90s and a hard slider that misses bats sounds like the kind of guy we need. The thing is his K totals look promising but his walks dampen my enthusiasm. Still, he is competing with guys that are beatable for the spot so I will watch and see. .
  3. You need two studs in a short playoff series and 3 in a longer series. Darvish gives us a chance in game 1, and Erv can have a dominant game 2 if he gets his slider over. In the WC game he couldn't command the slider. Berrios is almost but not quite there to be a 1 or 2. He may emerge this year. I don't mind trading a couple almost studs to get a real stud.
  4. Lorenzo is one of my favorite players, even though he is on KC. He is also money, although getting on in years. Still he is a huge upgrade over Granite or Grossman. In fact, I think he makes Keps the 4th OFer.
  5. I remember Eddie's debut season. He homered in his first AB (which foreshadowed a clutch ability) and through the year he was tested time after time (he was a rookie after all) by base runners and he gunned down a lot of guys. Outfield assists are relatively rare, and I liked his confidence. Last year, he seemed to want to repeat his success a few more times than I would have liked. Time and coaching will fix that. The thing is, he raised his BA to .290 and hit 27 homers.Even giving lip service to a regression on defense, how in heck does that make him a below average outfielder? But for me, what I like about Eddie is that he is clutch. I don't have stats on this but when I see him come up in a pressure situation, I feel like he is going to make something happen. Almost as confident as when Joe comes up. In the WC game, I expected a homer in that at bat, and he came through. I guess count me as one who sees real potential in this kid. I think he can be a special player, given time. 26 is not that old.
  6. I agree with this and this is what I have been saying. This was a young team that rallied. The trades gave us extra prospects almost MLB ready and we did not lose a bunch of games because of the trades. We would have been in the WC game regardless. So the FO found a way to have its cake and eat it too.
  7. Well, if you are going to say they committed a blunder and essentially admitted it, then say this, you are just strawmanning
  8. The FO just traded a million each for the Angels and Mariners prospects that look like they will someday make the Show. These guys seem to see the whole playing field if you ask me.
  9. Give them more time before what? You fire them?
  10. My point is that even if they kept Garcia and Kinz, they were at best a WC 1. So it makes no difference whether they made these moves or not. They would have still, at best, ended up in the WC game. Like I said, it made no difference. Except that what the FO did was collect more money and get two other almost ready major league arms. To me, and others, that was a far sighted set of moves, not just a couple of mistakes.
  11. I am not missing the point. The thing you are missing is that it didn't really matter. Maybe Twins are WC 1 instead of WC 2. They still would have played the Yankees in the WC game. They would have never caught Cleveland. When they punted on Kinz, they had a really tough run where they played the Dodgers and Cleveland and lost ground. So the FO did what they thought best to help the team long term. That is their job.
  12. And I think you are monday morning quarterbacking when it is pointless to do it. And I don't think your premise is right to start. You don't KNOW what they were thinking.Deny it or not, you ARE complaining and you are assuming your own set of assumptions about what they shoulda, coulda or mighta done different. But although you try to disguise it as some sort of factual observation, it is really just your own opinion. Because you don't KNOW what deals they were offered. And "more or less admitted" is a BS code translation for your guess is as good as mine. The FO looked at moves that were there to be had and there were precious few. We weren't going to grab Verlander for example. I think they didn't find a great move so they made a cautious sort of in between move, and one that stuck with the plan from the beginning of the year to add more arms and stock up international dough in case Ohtani came out. I think you call the FO dumb, but I think they were way ahead of you and a lot of other posters on here. .
  13. As I said, the playoff run was surprising. And it is not like we didn't make the playoffs. I think you are way over valuing Kinz's and Garcia's contribution as opposed to the guys we kept. The key is, did we lose games we would have won with Jaime or Kinz? I don't think so, not more than a couple anyway. And the difference means we would have been the #1 WC maybe, and still would have played the Yankees. Don't think it mattered really, as even if we'd have won the WC game, Houston or Cleveland would have ousted us. So since they don't give trophies for losing the ALDS I don't see the downside enough to complain. Bottom line, we have international dough and two almost MLB ready arms we didn't have before.
  14. I call BS. You don't know what the FO was thinking. But assuming they knew the Twins 2017 were not going deep into the playoffs, they made a calculated decision to add arms and move some pieces around to do that. Stop being hyper critical. They made three right calls for long term growth.
  15. I think the FO stayed with their plan to add potentially good young arms despite the surprising team staying in contention. And the view from the end of the road seems to justify what they did. If they want Kinz, he is available now. But they had Belisle and Pressley so moving Kinz was a calculated risk. Garcia was never going to be a difference maker but the young pitchers they acquired could be. Also the trade with the Nats gave them Int'l money, which may not be enough to land Ohtani but it was a shot that they took. I'm ok with it all. It even lit fire under the team which played better after the moves.
  16. And yet when his slider is working he can beat anybody and pitch a complete game
  17. Id like to see Romero and maybe Reed or Burdi, get a shot in the 2018 bullpen. That kind of speed is tailor made for a 7-8-9 reliever
  18. That's so bogus. The best teams lose 70 games. Yu Darvish's bad WS appearance is also meaningless. I repeat and add "Nobody in MLB makes these decisions based on one game. Nobody
  19. Hello? It was ONE GAME. You don't make a blanket pronouncement based on one game.
  20. Like death and taxes, it is a sure thing that Nick and I will disagree. No offense. Erv is our best pitcher and he is worth every penny. He may regress, but I remember several games where our BP blew his win in progress. He is an innings eater and when he is on he can throw a complete game... 7th in voting for Cy Young and was under rated at that. You bet on guys like that, not against them. I'd rather see him on the Twins, mentoring Gonsalves and Berios. Plus there is a dynamic some never seem to take into consideration. That is, that we don't want a mercenary front office with no loyalty. If we want to attract FA players, it is better to show some loyalty to our guys. It is also a good way to keep our current guys from wanting to bail. Think Calvin Griffith's Waseca speech in reverse.
  21. Sure, trade our best pitcher and most reliable power hitter over the past few years just to "see what you get?" I'm pretty sure you were just thinking out loud, but man. a team on the rise needs to keep its best players and build around them, not send them away. Besides, they are both clubhouse leaders.
  22. I have to laugh when I see an article saying it is a mistake to send down a pitcher with an ERA over 8. JT needs to work some things out and you don't do that in a low leverage spot in the big team's pen.
  23. Not gonna happen and shouldn't happen. I read these articles and this one was well written but suffers from a bias. Saying trade Dozier because there is no guarantee that he will continue to play like last year, but doesn't that have a biased assumption Bruce wil get better or continue to play at a high level while assuming the opposite about Doze? Dozier is getting better. You either believe in him or you don't. And I like him better than any prospect in our system. And everyone who talks about trading Dozier forget an important point: Power hitting 2bs are rarer than a friendly ex wife. Hughes was obtained at a great bargain and has pitched much better than expected. So we trade him? No way.The last thing we need is to send away our best pitcher when we have a shortage of SPs as it is. But I like reading articles like this. Food for thought. Thanks.
