  1. New BA mock is up: http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2017-mlb-mock-draft-4-0/#yckDButSR2R4CpKz.97 Still Wright at #1, pick #35 would make some of us really happy.
  2. I'm not sure there is a ton they could have done in the offseason to prevent these specific problems. They clearly should have aimed higher than Belisle, Breslow, and Haley as their additions, but that would have improved the active bullpen. There is not much that can be done to add quality depth to the minors in an offseason, especially when basically the entire stock of quality depth gets injured. They could (and should) have had a better bullpen, but the scramble to fill it out would still be ongoing. There's a reason the Twins only won 59 games last year.
  3. Alas, I'm not quite old enough to fully appreciate him. But I have certainly heard stories.
  4. Love watching Sano, but I can't imagine anyone every passing Santana in my mind. I am (barely) old enough for the two World Series teams, but Santana was a different level.
  5. The season eventually ends. The combo of minimal moves in the offseason with basically the entire second wave going down with injury doesn't leave many opportunities for good outcomes.
  6. I was long asleep when it happened, but I was pretty shocked too to read about the ending.
  7. For more info: http://m.startribune.com/twins-add-reliever-chris-heston-release-nick-tepesch/427098281/ It was a good run for Tepesch.
  8. Gibson strikes me as a good representation of Wright's floor, which would require Wright to suffer a series of very serious injuries.
  9. Gibson might have been a stud if he hadn't had the injury problems. But reading those scouting reports I would rank Wright ahead of Gibson. One of the flags for Gibson is that there was no improvement during his time at Missouri. Gibson's fastball was a tick or two behind Wright, and the secondary pitches seem comparable, though I would prefer Wright because of the extra offering. The control/command seems to favor Gibson. The injury issues could certainly happen to Wright. Or Greene. Or any pitcher.
  10. How long until the pee tape emerges? That's what we all want, right?
  11. I know that's the sentiment for some/many around here, but I find it to be wrong with a fair look at his record. I agree it's probably not best to rehash that debate, but I haven't found an example of an actually talented young player that he has refused to use in a normal role. All the argument centers on marginal prospects or AAAA guys. Overall, I don't care that much either way if they get rid of Molitor, but I wouldn't expect much difference in anything if they brought in a new manager. They'll be as good as the players they have.
  12. That scouting report would put him a tier below Wright going into the draft, not even accounting the stress fracture. And once you get hurt all bets are off.
  13. Gibson does not presently and never had that arsenal. FWIW, Wright doesn't have it either, but could potentially get there, which would a great pitcher.
  14. That is not my message. He'll use anyone who has talent. Such as in his everyday lineup. But he is hesitant to throw young guys into higher leverage situations than they need to be in. And rightfully so. I have trouble criticizing Molitor for not doing something that he literally has just done.
  15. We are all still waiting for Rosario to make his debut. Molitor clearly won't use call ups or prospects.
  16. I have not seen Wright ranked lower than #2 on anyone's list. I understand seeing Greene as having the highest upside, but Wright also has significant untapped upside. He could end up with 3-4 plus pitches while also throwing mid 90s, and is working with a 2 seamer. That's a #2 with the potential to be an ace. He's behind Strasburg because he doesn't have the velocity or the hammer, and is not as high as Price because he's not a lefty, but he strikes me as pretty close to as good a starter prospect as we've seen in the past decade.
  17. Law's top 100 is out: Greene #1, Wright #2 http://www.espn.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=7154
  18. Probably a good place to mention Turley struck out 15 in 6 shutout innings for Rochester today. I imagine he'll get a look relatively soon.
  19. For what it's worth, Thad Levine talked about this for a couple minutes on the "Inside Twins" show last Sunday. The main takeaway is that the scouts, crosscheckers, directors, etc are responsible for identifying and ranking the talent. The role of Falvey, Levine and other front office guys will be to talk with the agents (obviously not officially because that would be against the rules) and figure out the price for specific players and to then develop a bigger picture strategy for allocating resources over the entirety of the draft. Seems they are a little more hands on than Ryan would have been, but I think they are going to honor the work of the scouts and director (especially since they hired him for the job). Don't exactly know what it means for Deron Johnson.
  20. A little more work and he can get the coveted Twins Daily hitter of the month award.
  21. Not on day one, but probably by day 10 if they performed. He has put Rogers and Duffey in high leverage situations pretty quickly. Even Chargois was sneakkng into higher leverage by the end of last year.
  22. I don't know if it is covering after the fact, but it has been interesting to read/hear in local media several references to the second wave of relievers all succumbing to injury, leading to some of the current bullpen issues. It is obviously true, but it is also some of the context some of the front office is providing to local media. Shouldn't have had an impact on signing Belisle over a better reliever, but also would suggest there was some sort of a plan going into the season of planning on internal options throughout the year. Now that it has fallen apart, and the Twins are in the face (perhaps unexpectedly to the front office), will be interesting to see if they invest some real prospect resources into acquiring more help.
  23. An anti-Hillary vote probably didn't need to get whipped up too much, she brought plenty upon herself. Trump's support, such as it is, won't stay when he faces an actual domestic crisis not of his own doing, and/or there is a slip in the economy. That's when the "responsible" Republicans will finally leave him.
  24. It appears about 10% of the people who voted for him no longer support him. I know a couple, but they should have known better in November. I also know several who are doubling down. It's an interesting mix.
