  1. Probably didn't want to use Duffey and Rogers and Kintzler probably were being saved for 8th and 9th. I get the angst, but not like Molitor has many options here.
  2. I'd still go Wright. I don't think he was especially abused yesterday, but it was certainly bad coaching to push him and send him out for the 7th to give all that up. Made his line look that much worse.
  3. People got out a little ahead of themselves with him two years ago too. He'll need to show something at a higher level before he gets national notice.
  4. I don't like this way of thinking. It doesn't matter if he can do both pretty good, it matters that he does one of them well. Otherwise you're drafting the equivalent of the 7-10th best talent if he is only the 4th or 5th best pitcher (or hitter). I fear these two way talents are being overrated because of this exact thought process.
  5. That second point may be true, but it is a huge risk (and terrible pr) to try and pull off shipping out your most effective starter while returing a pitcher (and perhals other pieces) that will be ready to contribute as part of a window that may be opening even wider next year.
  6. That may be true on a vacuum, bit much harder to execute when dealing with actual teams and the prospects they literally have. In the very unlikely scenario they trade Santana, they would have to get at least pitcher who has already debuted or is on track to debut and be impact within a calendar year. Very few competitive teams have that type of asset floating around. Maybe Colorado, Dodgers and Astros, and that might be a stretch.
  7. I also don't get the comparisons betweem the Yankees last year and the Twins this year like it is meaningful to what trades the Twins should consider. The franchises were/are in such different places.
  8. It would be fascinating to see the sh*tstorm that would erupt if the Twins did trade Santana. And the return isn't going to be *that* great either way.
  9. I'll offer three points in response to this. First, I agree that it was a very mediocre rebuild. I think it was part incompetence, part the game passing Ryan by, part a desire to try and be competitive in a new stadium. But they obviously never fully bought into a rebuild, weren't especially creative, and hung on to and extended way too much mediocrity. It wasn't a complete disaster, there is talent here, but definitely opportunities missed. Second, I really disagree the window is only next year. They certainly don't have great pitching depth coming up, but they do have some, and potentially some big league pieces to build around. In many ways the window is just opening and with some breaks could be quite fruitful. The weak farm system does shrink the margin of error though. Finally, I just don't get the strong push for marginal guys to get promoted. Them getting some reps is not going to matter. If something pops and they start flashing in the minors, they'll get a chance.
  10. This isn't crazy at all. They could patch this thing together all year. Still a lot of talent in the lineup that could emerge.
  11. Few teams are good enough that all 40 man spots are locked in. And if they were, they wouldn't do this strategy anyways. Pitching can be goofy. Guys can unexpectedly click at any time for a variety of reasons. This isn't an ideal strategy, but it isn't terrible to use the back end of a roster (25 and 40) to throw some stuff out there. A lot of the moves this year were scrambles, but this one is actually intriguing.
  12. This is true, but Erv strikes me more as the exception rather than a trend. And isn't command the biggest issue with Turley?
  13. With Aguiar and Bonifacio, Twins going after some big boys.
  14. What the heck, one more:
  15. Gonsalves could contribute by the end of the year, might even end up as a good 4. I still see Romero as likely ending up as a good reliever. Jorge definitely needs more time, may be an option late next year. And they should draft a college starter that can help by later next year. So of they do sign a solid free agent and keep Santana, they'll have a solid rotation with some depty behind it. The franchise is not in a great position, but it's not a disaster either. And who knows, maybe they'll get lucky and find something with Turley.
  16. I guess this begs the question of what you thought the state of the franchise was going into the year. There's a reason the general manager was fired. I personally feel slightly better about the current state, in that Mejia might be a functional starter and Berrios could end up prettt good. Both were far from certain coming in to the year. If they keep Santana and sign a decent free agent (there are decent options and the team has some money), they should have a representative rotation on day 1 next year.
  17. I'm going to go with talent.
  18. Three shutouts for Erv. 11 other pitchers in baseball have 1 each.
  19. If you cycle through enough retreads, you eventually find an interesting one. San Fran has a pretty weak offense, might be a good way for him to break in, could have some success. Pitchers can follow strange development curves.
  20. Just saw a comp of a bigger, stronger version Kris Benson. That might actually be pretty accurate. Benson had some talent, but was ridden pretty hard his second year, had some nagging injuries right after and was never the same.
  21. I don't like this at all.
  22. Maybe McKay as a hitter at a little bit of a discount.
  23. Not weird. Personally I would take Gore #2 after Wright.
