  1. I also don't think any of the bullpen arms in AA or AAA are clearly so good they should jump into a significant role in the bullpen on day one. They would definitely need to pitch into a bigger role. That would not be Molitor's fault.
  2. Who are the actual young players you are referring to here?
  3. I'm not sure Kepler was ready at the beginning of the year, I had no problem with giving him extra time in the minors. He basically player every day starting June 1. I have a really hard time complaining about the development of Kepler. I don't know what to think about Polanco, the whole development last year (and before) seemed to be a fiasco. Not sure what percent I'd give to Molitor, but he did play basically every day starting late July, mostly as SS, which he had not played in the minors.
  4. It really was a baffling offseason regarding relievers. I'll give the new front office time to show something, but this was not a impressive start to their tenure.
  5. Young guys should have to play themselves into larger roles, that's a pretty normal course of affairs. As they have performed, Molitor has used them in larger roles. I just don't see any young players on the roster that are being used in a role less than they should be.
  6. This certainly could be the plan, it would be disappointing. It really is time to start cycling through some of the young guys. I don't see much reason to keep Boshers. Ideally they send someone down when Vargas can return.
  7. He almost entirely in September. Hard to draw much of a conclusion. I assume he'll be the long man, but I guess it's hard to know what roles the current bullpen will have. I would be pretty stunned if he is used late innings with a lead.
  8. I suspect this is very likely. I know Wimmers is not all that inspiring, but we can probably relax a little on the pitcher called up to eat innings in case of a short start. They (rightly) don't want a prospect in that role.
  9. How do you know any of this? Everything you like you credti to the front office, everything you don't you credit to Molitor. I'm not sure it works that way. And, really, what evidence is there that Molitor won't play a young player that actually has talent? He runs young players out in the everyday lineup every day, he hasn't hesitated to start Mejia or Berrios, and he has given his youngest relievers (Rogers, Duffey) prominent bullpen roles over more veteran guys (Belisle, Breslow).
  10. It's starting. I wouldn't say one more outing away, but a front office isn't going to bring multiple relievers up with no experience at the same time. But Rosario shows the process is starting, probably because he was on the 40 man.
  11. Twins still have 4th best record in the AL. Don't underestimate how mediocre the majority of the league is at the moment. Twins have obvious flaws, but so does everyone else other than Houston.
  12. I don't necessarily agree, but I assume Wimmers is here as a long man only, which isn't the best role for Hildenberger or Busenitz. Calling up Romero actually gives me some optimism that they are going to start cycling through this next group of relievers that they have thus far avoided calling up.
  13. Go with Rosario or Melotakis, live a little (since it won't be Romero). None of the bats are worth it with Palka hurt.
  14. On the plus side, Kintzler and Rogers should now be well rested for the next several games.
  15. If they don't, then I'll retract my minimal optimism. Getting on the road after the last four days is probably a positive.
  16. Those names don't do a whole lot for me (or the front office I imagine). I'm not necessarily opposed to bringing them up and giving a shot, but really not going to make a difference. Meolotakis might be ok, and sure give him a shot, but the only potential difference maker in my mind is Romero, and I doubt they put him in the pen this early in the year (even though it's what I would do).
  17. They got pummeled by the best team. It happens. They can take 2 or 3 from LA and it looks different by the end of the weekend.
  18. Zero chance to trade Melotakis? I'd trade him for almost anything of value that the team needed. Leaving aside the Twins not wanting to call him up for whatever reason, what do you think he actually becomes?
  19. I wouldn't be stunned if Falvey replaced Molitor after the season. But if he is open to staff and changes that Falvey wants, wouldn't be too surprising if he stays either. I like Molitor fine, but I wouldn't think much of it if the Twins had a new manager.
  20. The front office did a terrible job on the bullpen this offseason. There is a decent chance it ultimately costs them a playoff berth. Part of why I'm "defending" Molitor is the core issue is that he has little to work with. I actually think he has done a pretty good job guiding a mediocre (and that's being generous) pen.
  21. That would probably be Melotakis. Seems like a fair swap to me if the Twins want to buy this deadline.
  22. This is the reason I still hold on to some hope for the Twins this season. The rest of the division and most of the AL just isn't that good.
  23. You really think Falvey thinks that highly of Belisle and Breslow? It was a low dollar and a minor league contract. They were signed to round out the bullpen. He's not a fool, he wouldn't want them in higher leverage innings than others. I wonder a little bit about Vargas, but they were also a little slow to call him up originally and they didn't hesitate to option him back. I think the better explanation is that they know what they have in him. I just really, really, really don't buy that Falvey is making moves to undermine his manager. This is quite the theory though.
  24. I think we'll disagree on usage. I know I'm on the less popular position. What I don't agree with, and is stated often here, were that the three relievers used were especially exhausted at that point. They were all good to go for an inning. All that said, I still don't see how Molitor not using those two guys in the 8th with a lead, who are very marginal guys, symbolizes something bigger between the manager and the front office.
  25. Because it was not a guarantee Santana would go 7 innings, especially against a really good team. They needed arms to eat innings if it was a short start. That is being prudent, not lunacy.
