  1. Mejia won't enter spring training penciled in as one of the 5 starters.
  2. 7-9 is probably even too high. I could see Santana, Berrios, Gibson, Legit FA, Lesser FA/Minor League Guy, Hughes, May, Mejia at least breaking camp ahead of them on the depth chart.
  3. So looks like as of now they pretty much nailed their pool. That's an acceptable outcome as is, but would be really good if they dip into the penalty money to sign one or two more. Like to see a good plan executed quickly and efficiently.
  4. Had been an evergreen post for over a month now, but is especially apparent from this game. They probably need to recall Pressly or another pitcher and other than Belisle everyone else should stay.
  5. Breslow has to be done after tonight right? Brings nothing to the table.
  6. Polanco by himself is too much in my mind. But the rest of the names don't have much value.
  7. He's likely the extra callup Saturday. And yes, looks like bullpen is shaking out a little. Pressly could come back too.
  8. Alas, not often you have a top 5 (1 by some measures) prospect and the best rhp prospect laying around.
  9. That's probably enough innings to want another start or two before making a move. Maybe two starts, a handful of relief appearances in AA, then up after the all star break. Give him a look before the trade deadline.
  10. Rodriguez is going to get some run in a major league bullpen at some point. Good for him. Really think they should put Romero in the pen for the rest of the season. Seems he could be a difference maker down the stretch.
  11. Should leave enough for Rodriguez.
  12. I would be pretty surprised if they don't have him locked in after having the night to negotiate. Probably just waiting for Leach to sign to save enough cash.
  13. But it worked just fine, so brilliant.
  14. I'm actually pretty stunned Molitor went with Hildenberger here.
  15. Fair point on depth chart realities. But realistically Rockies wouldn't do that for similar reasons, they have a better ss prospect than Gordon.
  16. Rondon is the guy I'd think most likely if he can get healthy. But I wouldn't trade Gordon for him or Freeland right now. On your other point, Mets were never going to trade Conforto. That was serious nonsense flowing around national writers.
  17. They were likely disappointed no one took Park and his salary off their hands.
  18. For clarity, I wasn't ignoring Turner, he was mentioned as struggling in the post I quoted, so didn't see the need to repeat his name. He's a good player, struggles this year notwithstanding. Still would rank Conforto as most likely to be best in the class. Gordon 2, Turner 3, Schwarber 4. But a lot can change. Wouldn't be stunned if an arm goes off.
  19. The answer to your question is no. If Melotakis was a fit, they would have likely called him up over 2 guys not on the 40. It will remain to be seen if the front office can evaluate pitching, but we do tend to overrate marginal relievers in the minors, though perhaps fairly considering the current state of the major league pen.
  20. The fact they never gave him a shot in the bigs probably provides a hint.
  21. I figured they weren't high on Melotakis, but the promotion before the dfa is an interesting strategy.
  22. Fair, but not going to be too concerned about Gee over Tepesch. Day 1 insurance is if 3 get hurt in spring training or two in wbc aren't ready.
  23. They have Gee now, so we shall see. I always saw Vogelsong as day 1 insurance, possible recovery of (minimal) value, not longer term depth. The Twins had a pretty clear first 7. That does impact somewhat the type of minor league signing you can make. Tepesch types are what you get.
