    Shawn Green was my initial thought too, but he probably doesn't have the power upside. Paul O'Neill strikes me as a great comp.

    There's a handful of guys you wouldn't want to trade for a rental, but other than that, I'm on board with this.

    I've been pretty pro getting Romero in the mlb pen at the end of the year, but this is a pretty compelling counterpoint. There certainly is wisdom keeping him on the same routine, limiting innings and having him finish the year, rather than trying to stretch him at the end in an unfamiliar role when he is fatigued and more susceptible to injury coming off his previous injuries.

    Garver is a fine prospect, but he's no Ramos. Garver will likely settle in as a high quality backup, but he also has great value as a catcher with options. I'm not convinced he starts next season as the backup, wouldn't be all that surprised if it was Murphy.

    I'm not all that high on Granite, and 4th/5th OF is probably his fate, but gave the man a chance!

    Romero and Gonsalves are not ready to make extended starts in the majors, they'd get lit up. Either could probably survive a spot start and perhaps Romero can be effective out of the bullpen, but it won't sustain. Jorge was the most advanced and still not ready and it was pretty clear what happened to him. I appreciate the disgust with cycling through retreads and particularly Colon, but they just aren't going to expose prospects. It will result in bad performance and potentially negative developmental consequences. There's a small chance Colon catches something, and if not he's quickly cut without consequence.

    Probably more the previous regime. The rotation wasn't the highest quality (to put it mildly) and it lacked upper end depth going into the offseason. FA class was pretty mediocre and it is really difficult to add quality minor league depth without trading mlb pieces. There wasn't much for the new regime to work with. Much bigger indictment is not addressing the bullpen.

    This is just a theory, I have no idea the reason. I'll also add that quality of stuff matters too. Gonsalves has good stuff, but he's a tick below Romero and presumedly the other guys who have been bumped up. Gonsalves projects to be a 4ish type starter. If he was truly ready for the bigs he should be carving up AA lineups for at a minimum of 6 innings each start, and almost always 7. It's just not happening, tells me he likely has command issues. Bringing him to the bigs anytime soon is setting him up for failure. He'll likely be ready a couple months into next season. Needless to say, I think there is entirely too much angst about a month or two of promotion time. Rooker should probably move pretty soon, but beyond him players are fine where they are. Patience is not exciting. Relax.

    Not a complete disaster for Buxton, gives him a chance to get a few lower pressure reps to consolidate hitting changes. Not the ideal way out of the break though.

    I'm starting to think the Twins might not be quite as good as Houston.

    Sano will be a 1B before he's a DH. Likely starting in 2019. I would personally extend Dozier a couple years and play him, Gordon and Polanco at 2b, ss and 3b. Be the bridge until some of the lower level bats shake out.

    Peavy wasn't that highly regarded at the time. And even subtracting a top 100 guy and Davis, that is not an equitable swap. And Myerd was ranked #4 by BA after the trade. Much higher regarded than Gordon. And Shields had less control.

    Archer and Stroman are fun to talk about, but they aren't coming for even a Gordon, Gonsalves, Romero and Kiriloff package. Teams are going to target higher upside guys over good depth. Twins don't have the pieces to get a high quality contollable pitcher with just minor leaguers. It would take Kepler, which I wouldn't do.

    Moore is a guy I would target. I wonder if he would play up in front of a better d. Don't have a good sense of what he would cost.

    You are correct, someone picked in that range is not likely to return much value.

    I was being sarcastic (and exaggerating a little). He's too experienced for this league, but I'm generally indifferent to performance the year a player is drafted. It's enough of an adjustment to pro ball and a wood bat that I'm not going to get too excited either way. Next year is what matters. I did find it humorous when people were jumping in with the negativity because the k/bb rates were a little off after a handful of games.

    I didn't want to suggest he's not a prospect or has no chance, but (imo) 4 year guys need to perform at AA before we can get too excited. Hildenberger is a great example. When he pitched well at AA he got on the radar a little bit.
