  1. Poppen is a Harvard man too. Probably a good front office exec prospect. He'll need to perform at AA before prospect watchers get too excited. Stuff and age play such an important role in what makes a prospect.
  2. I'm surprised you keep mentioning Marte. I thought you were more of a ped purist.
  3. If that was the case he would get hit harder and not have such a high gb rate. I agree that he can't suceed in the bigs with such a low k rate, but therr is something to build upon. I would curious what he would do with a full healthy season in AA next year.
  4. No matter what happens, how can you forget that peak big sexy Colon wore a Twins jersey?
  5. Should add that these numbers represent pitchers that would be in the mlb by next year. Some low level guys might be higher upside.
  6. Pitching upside is definitely not good. Depth is also pretty mediocre. For perspective, there are probably only 3 or 4 pitchers in the minors right now (not counting recent drafts) that project to be true #2/1s, maybe 6 if you stretch. Just not a common asset. The top 11 prospects in BA Top 100 are bats. #12 is a pitcher out with TJ.
  7. I'm letting the "probably" and "about" do a lot of work here to avoid typing more words.
  8. You could open up a nice debate here. I would say Garver (backup C) and Granite (4th OF) are set up to be very solid role players. Gonsalves will probably break in to the rotation at some point next year, set up to be a 4ish type starter. Jorge is probably about the same. Romero has the best arm, if he puts it together could be a #2 starter, I still think smart money in on him being a very good reliever. There are a couple of bullpen arms worth monitoring, Reed and Curtiss look like they could be something, possible that Bard could on due time. Randy Rosario will probably break in next year. Remains to be seen if injured guys can get healthy (Burdi, Jay). True gem of system right now is Gordon. Should be an everyday guy up the middle, perhaps by early next year.
  9. On the other hand, Colon is personally big enough to block three pitchers from being promoted.
  10. I'm one of the high guys on Rosario, but an everyday lf for a pretty good setup man seems like an overpay, especially one that was pretty mediocre 2 years ago. Even though it helps my point, I think WAR underrates relievers. And yes, waived, not released.
  11. I would expect more in return for Rosario if I'm the Twins. That's a ton for a reliever that was released as recently as last year.
  12. Clearly Jorge didn't get all the jitters out in his first start.
  13. Seems his k rate keeps dropping too. It's not often you get to watch such a talent rebuild a swing on the fly in the majors. He deserves credit. I still strongly believe it's all going to come together, and it's going to be glorious.
  14. It was a good draft, good strategy, good execution. But it absolutely (and rightly) be judged on how Lewis does relative to the 4 pitchers. Lewis is probably the "safest" of the 5 and most likely to return value, but 1 or 2 of those pitchers will likely be very solid. Just hard to know which ones.
  15. As others have pointed out playing the kids provides both development for them and better players right now. So win-win with what they are doing.
  16. Very unlikely they all work out, and even if they do, decent chance it is a group of 4ish type starters (especially Gonsalves, Jorge, Mejia, May).
  17. Granite on the BA June Prospect Team: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/prospect-team-month-june/?amphtml=1
  18. Might be closer than you think. Hand is good but he's not a top tier reliever. Depends what they think of Stewart.
  19. I agree that calling up Granite or Garver wouldn't matter for development, might even help to get a taste. But is it clear that the Twins would have used either of them as a PH in that situation? I'm not sure it's an upgrade.
  20. Has to be Jorge coming back again, right? They could still option him down after the game and call him back up to be the 5th starter out of the break, or go in a different direction (such as Gee).
