  1. I do too. Still think he has a solid #3 in him.
  2. And Claeys is gassed. I'm OK with it if they have a plan. If not, this would be a crowning moment of this whole fiasco. And if they have a replacement in mind, why keep him and his staff hanging for a week. Not especially confident in the administration, which is kind of an evergreen statement for a Minnesota backer.
  3. It would take something like a 3/50-60 at this point. And I don't think it would necessarily be a disaster to do that for the Twins based on how they are currently constructed. But he's not adding on one year.
  4. It might be stupid, but how does this show an ego problem? For most injuries it just isn't that black and white.
  5. The mods do a great job, but if you post enough you'll probably get a point a two you don't deserve. Makes up for all the other times they let things slide. If you want a clarification and send a respectful message more power to you. Otherwise my advice is "thank you sir/madam, can I have another..."
  6. Oh, there's a right answer.
  7. I would sign at least one vet reliever either way, but would certainly get behind Romo. Feliz has been mentioned, I like Casilla, and Holland could be that guy too. Probably a few others as well. Anyone with upside or looking to reestablish value as a closer, on a one or two year deal, that could get flipped at the deadline.
  8. I think they are trying to add a reliever, not trade away. And watching Baez pitch will make you want to gouge your eyes out. Can't imagine would it would be like with him as a closer.
  9. Kintzler has some value and Dodgers are looking for a cheap reliever. I would include him if it firmed up a third piece in addition to JDL and Alvarez.
  10. Strikes me as an unnecessary inclusion of relievers by the Twins.
  11. I know a lot has been said in all these points, but I do think a strong majority of posters (save prospect nihilists) would accept De Leon as the centerpiece. The question is what is coming with him. If it is very little I think the breaking down of De Leon has been justified. If Dave's source is right, most will be satisfied.
  12. I'm certainly not opposed to a new coach, but (as I'm sure you'd agree) there was a better way to let him go. If they don't already have a deal with someone, firing him now would seem to limit the candidate pool a little bit knowing you were coming into this mess and working for this administration. They'll obviously still get a decent guy, because it's D1 and it pays well, but much more risk/uncertainty than it had to be.
  13. Getting burned so bad by Mauer certainly won't make them enthusiastic to repeat the move.
  14. I wouldn't go 3 years on a reliever at this point. They can be patient and get a representative guy for 1-2 years, maybe even Feliz if they promise the closer job.
  15. Wrote that poorly. 3 of the teams in the division will be worse than last year entering the season, not necessarily worse than the Twins, but I do think at least 50/50 the Whiteys are worse to start the season.
  16. In addition to the accurate point made by Brock, I would even add the Twins should care what people think. Namely the fans who buy tickets and sponsors who shell out the big money. A universally panned deal of their best player would be a big problem.
  17. Not a believer in pythag or base runs I take it. If they keep Dozier statistical projections will have them at 74ish to start the season. Doesn't matter what the record was last year. And at least 3 of the other teams in the division will be worse.
  18. Probably more worried about making a clearly bad trade than being reminded about it. Trading their best player for a clearly poor return would further demoralize a beaten down fanbase and lead to more criticism of ownership (cheap Pohlads!). The honeymoon would be over quickly.
  19. I'm not sure it's that dire. I expect them to add a flyer arm and a legit RP and possibly a representative 4th OF. They are probably a 74-75ish true talent team with a unusally large beta. Probably makes them about a 20-25% chance to be in the playoff hunt.
  20. I would bet on the under of De Leon over 6 years vs Dozier next 2. I like De Leon as a prospect and he's a worthy centerpiece in return, but there's so much more risk with pitchers. Has to mitigated to move Dozier
  21. If it's just De Leon I don't agree. There is probably a 70-80% chance that you get nothing better than a 3, with a significant part of that representing getting nothing. Missing out on that type of asset isn't going to kill a franchise. There is some positive value in seeing more wins with Dozier on the team, in helping recreate a winning culture for young guys on the come, and there is still a nonzero chance that the team can compete in the next two years.
  22. Good idea, fun to learn about some of the posters here. I currently live in St Paul and have lived in Minnesota most my life. I am in my mid 30s and have 2 young sons (which is why I'm posting at 9 on New Years Eve). I was in business consulting after I graduated college, but left that to be an Army chaplain for a while and I'm now an assistant pastor and trying to write some books. I have been a sports fan for a while, played football and basketball at a small college but always loved baseball and now it is pretty much the only professional sport I care about. I was always a Twins fan, went to the 87 and 91 series but did fall away a little during the wandering of 93-00 and was really bothered by the 94 strike. Really got back into baseball with the Sosa/McGwire chase and especially the Twins rebirth. It's somewhat cliche, but reading Moneyball really got me to explore baseball in a new way, and I was an ecomonics major, so really enjoy the markets and valuation and arbitrage and all that side of it as well. And being in a dynasty league the last several years has taken my fandom to a deeper level. I certainly liked the Twins World Series teams, but it was the players on the 2001 team that I was always liked and it really culminated with Santana and Liriano. We will likely never see anything like that couple months of 06 again. I got into BYTO midstream, loved it, and migrated over here. I took a little hiatus this past year with a new kid, a new job and the general awfulness of the Twins, but it is good to be back. Really enjoy the conversation here. I now try to check in almost daily.
  23. True, but I still don't see where it comes yet. Our institutions are weak but no individual is steong enough to take everyone one. The Rs are united enough in their dislike of Obama/Dems and the desire to pass their agenda, but the first part is meaningless come Jan 20 and cracks in the second leads to cracks in the unity.
  24. I also find it pretty interesting that he has by far the highest negatives of an incoming president and they haven't really budged. It's going to be ugly.
  25. Anyone enjoy Trumps New Years tweet this morning? Will be interesting to see how he uses executive power against his political opponents. Might open up something that can never be bottled again.
